High atop a mountain range in remote Simland, a monastery of monks devoted to pondering the Way of Pinstar lived a serene and mostly untroubled existence.
Their knowledge of the Way was mostly theoretical, as they lived lives of prayer and meditation, until one young monk approached the Abbot asking if he might go out into the world to live a life devoted to the Way, and to explore its mysteries through practical living.
After much contemplation, the Abbot agreed to his request, and they sent the young man out with such material wealth as they could spare.
