Nothing says aesthetic like simplicity, and what could better say simple than a monolith-shaped house? More pics: http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7923/mono1bet8.jpghttp://img292.imageshack.us/img292/6762/mono2ed8.jpghttp://img115.imageshack.us/img115/6018/mono3bs6.jpgLike the monolith of 2001, its dimensions are precisely 1x4x9. The outside may be plain, but the inside has been engineered for optimal use for around 10 to 20 sims. Includes space on the side for a garage, a dog house or a garden (not included). To install, unpack the zip and copy to your LotCatalog folder (rename as appropriate). This lot has objects which require Uni and Seasons EPs. My lame attempt at a bribe is this custom terrain which includes a small plateau, from which you can overlook the other peasants from your dark citadel (dark citadel also not included).

That looks a lot like the setup I use for the 7 toddlers challenges, but just a bit too big (don't wanna run too far).

0.01 for aesthetics. It's a box. With no windows.

My art teachers would all strongly disagree, but I humbly accept that rating.

My art teachers would all strongly disagree, but I humbly accept that rating. I've found that many art teachers (and architects) have a sense of what constitutes 'attractive' that is somewhat removed from that of the general populace. However, I wish you better luck with the technical merit portion of the competition

It was the deliberate flouting of the criteria that earned such a low score.

In that case, I got screwed on the first criteria (coherence). I understand if you weight heavily based the effort involved.

Well, it was more about the "How is it not a box?" rule. It is hard to see theme when there is no decor.

It wasn't black enough, anyway. The monolith needs more blackness.

I like pie. A cake is fine, too.

Making it a vertical, black monolith with Komei and other ape-faced Sim Townies ook-ooking at it would have gained you back the aesthetic points you phailed to acquire. Especially if the wallpaper inside was all patterned with stars.

I think making it vertical would either have resulted in no ground floor space, or a massively tall structure exceeding the legal number of floors.

I agree about it not being black enough, but there just aren't a lot of good Maxis wallpapers.
Vertical gives you 9 floors which is no problem in OfB or newer. The real problem with vertical is all the space you have to waste on stairs and/or elevators makes it difficult to design. The lack of any serious space on any one floor would be annoying, but I think it could possibly be designed around.

I haven't really thought of a design that would work well with overstuffed houses and nurseries at the same time. I always play those separately. I'm not sure how you correct the tubs. They're already at the end rooms, so a sim can only be shooed toward the showers. Shooing doesn't occur frequently enough in my case that I considered it a problem. Gendered Doors don't cause issues for me.
