Nightlife Jump Bug?

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I've recently gotten nightlife, and I've been having major problems dining out. So far, it's only worked one time, w/ both sims sitting in a sectional nook. Most of the time, the sims sit down (on regular chairs), I make them order, and before the food ever comes, they pop out of their chairs. I do have quite a few hacks, so I was wondering if other pple have experienced this as well. I don't quite have the time to test it out myself, b/c I only have access to the game for a few hrs each week. Someone suggested a jump bug. I'm not sure if that's what it is, but if it is, maybe Pescado can look into it? Anyway, I'd appreciate any input.

you might want to empty out your hacks BEFORE complaining that there is a bug in NL.

It's a jump bug for sure. You have to delete all your hacks (make a copy of the Downloads folder on the desktop), check the game again without them, and then you have two options:
1) Put the hacks one by one and test them.
2) Put only updated NL hacks which the modders announced about them.

Walls, floors, and recolored objects, hair, makeup, and clothing work good.

Like I said, I don't have the time to test it out. And I wasn't complaining, I was only asking if other pple have experienced the same problem. First off, READ the whole post before making smart ass comments, and second, why bother posting if you have absolutely zilch to contribute?

If it does happen to be a jump bug, is there anything I could do to maybe fix it? Or at least alleviate the annoyances?

The simmasters would delete your post for saying that though. Its ok to be retarded, but wrong to be right.

So, this generally isn't a common problem? That's all I was asking, people. And that's all you had to say. Jeez.

No, you have to move the downloads folder to the desktop, and test the game without hacks. If it works OK - some hack caused it.

Download the Clean installer, put again your downloads folder in the game, and scan the folder. Make sure you have another copy of it on the desktop.
You can download it from MTS2 (the right middle shows the link) http://modthesims2.com
Download the Framework 1.1 (the link is at the Clean Installer site).

Delete each red-marked line.
Now add only NL hacks, and test the game.
Add another hacks one by one.

My whole Pleasantview got the jump bug, and I had to reinstall the game.

Not a common problem I am afraid, at least from all the bug reports I have read. Although bad or corrupted installs have caused some wacky problems so thats not to say it isnt a bug of sorts.

I personally havent had this issue (yet) and I try very hard to break the game. Its hard to suggest a fix without knowing for sure what is causing it, it could be as simple as a modified global or object. Or...a bad install.

Ok, thnx. I'll try the game w/out hacks later this week and see if it's a hack problem first. Hopefully it's just a hack and not the game. And thanks for being helpful.  Smiley

There are subtle routing issues associated with sectional chairs that can cause these problems with/without hacks. It's partly caused by the shiny new socials that Maxis is still debugging.

Seriously, the first thing I do if I am having ANY problem with the game is to just drag my downloads directory temporarily to my desktop, run the game and see if I get the same problem. If I do, it's a bug with the game. If I don't, it's either a hack or some other custom content.

If it's a bug with the game I put my downloads back and just either have to deal with it or look for a hack to fix it. If it's something in my downloads folder, then begins the oh so fun task of trial and error to try and narrow down what it is.  Tongue

Normally, that's what I do, but w/this particular problem, I have to drag my sims downtown, & the thing w/that is, it saves before they leave. Which means I'm obligated to load the game w/ all my CC, which takes ages (I have gigs of CC). And I only have so many hrs to spend w/ the game. So I hadn't gotten around to it. And I figured I'd just ask in the meantime. Wasn't counting on the obnoxious wise-cracks, though, but oh well.

I can suggest you a short cut:

All the hacks have names, without numbers. If you click on "view", and arrange the Downloads folder by names - go to the first whole word you have (not a letter); this may be a hack. Move it to the desktop.
All the walls, floors, clothes, and recolored objects work fine with NL.

I don't think you have more than 20 hacks. Put them in a new folder, to get them together, Open in the Downloads folder a new subfolder named Hacks, and begin to move them one by one. It makes the procedure shorter (that's what I did when I installed NL).

I wasn't trying to make a wisecrack and yes, I can see how that would complicate matters having to go downtown and thus save.

Perhaps if someone made a NL community objects for residential collection you could place that big restaurant stove and hostess podium on a residential lot after it loads and then do changelotzoning community and fake a restaurant without having to save and go downtown. Then of course you'd just not save when you exited and none of those changes should take.

I don't know if such a collection exists yet though as I haven't seen one.

*edit: Okay I found just such a NL community to residential collection by Wintermuteai at VS

Yes, I had a problem just like you describe and I finally traced it to a NL version of the no autonomous napping mod made by TwoJeffs I had downloaded from variousimmers.  I haven't been to the site in the past few days but last I checked, there was a more updated version that was supposed to have fixed the jumping.  I haven't taken the time to download it and try it again.

I posted about it on VS and described all the odd things that happened.  It caused my sims to jump out of their dinners while dining out, jumping off toilets halfway through using them, (and a few more things) and even caused problems with the telephone.  I don't think anyone actually believed what I posted on VS because a few days ago there hadn't been even one reply. LOL  What happened with the phone was really weird.  If my sim called another to talk to them, the one they were talking to suddenly appeared in the middle of their living room, hand to their ear like they were on the phone.  My sim doing the calling would jump out of the phone call and the sim they were talking to would disappear again.

The reason I finally narrowed it down to this particular mod was that it hadn't been happening, then all of a sudden was, after I had added about three new mods.

One thing I find really handy is a sub-folder structure within my Downloads folder.  I put all game mods into one particular folder so they're a lot easier to find than if they're in the regular Downloads folder.  All custom content with the exception of clothing and genetics work in sub-folders.  I also decided from here on out any new mods I add will go into a sub-folder named something like mods-testing.  Then they'll be even easier to locate should I need to. Wink

I've been going through my hacks because I have a "jump bug" type thing with the sectionals, period. Even on the home lot. Hope VS is up and running today!

Did anyone bother to read my post?

I got that error with the sectionals before I had *any* hacks installed. It's a bug in Nightlife.
