Ok I'm probably extremely late picking up on this, but I've only really just started using SimPE to look at the game files. I loaded the objects.package from the original sims game and noticed there were files in there associated with the phone which seemed to refer to things that have never happened in my game (and I've had it since the day the original base game was released). There was the Grandchild scenario (where a grandparent rings to tell you to have grandchildren), the Engagement scenario (which seems to be where someone rings you to gossip about someone else's relationship) and the Boss Invite (where your boss invites himself for dinner). I don't know enough about it to look at the code to answer my questions so I thought I'd ask here. Do these scenarios happen in the game or did they get removed? If they do happen, what sort of circumstances are needed for them to occur? I have tried searching for the answers but I couldn't find anything referring specifically to these things.

Thanks! I thought that might be what had happened. I'd quite like phonecalls like that to be in the game, but they'd probably get annoying after a while.

I'd like to see those scenarios in the game.

I'd like to see them too, especially the one where the boss comes to dinner. I wonder if it's similar to the headmaster scenario, and your sim doesn't get a promotion unless the boss is impressed.

this would be great with harder jobs.. stuck in the politics career? Invite over the mayor with a boss scenario... and kill him!

Actually, it'd be a random useless NPC instead.

Isn't that the definition of a boss, or just where I work?

Yes, but the point is it's not actually associated with the sim in any way, it'd be the same set of NPCs for every job.

I guess that's why they took it out. They could have made a seperate NPC boss for each career, but then would we really want all those NPCs clogging up our game? It would have been a nice scenario apart from that.

They could create one mafia-type boss who runs the whole neighborhood, and nobody gets promoted in this town unless "Frankie the Fink" says so.
