I just finished installing my x1950 and updating to the latest drivers. The load time for the game is incredible but when it gets to the hood screen everything goes pixelated. Anyone else having this issue?
Ati just released drivers like 3 days ago. Anyone have a older version that is working better?

Did you go into the Catalyst Control Center and check the settings there?

I'm running on the drivers from last month, and have no problems.
Did you have a previous Radeon card installed before? I don't always have much luck getting the drivers and control center to reinstall properly. I tried it a couple weeks ago when my Catalyst went kablooie for no reason (it wouldn't even come up, all I wanted was to check my driver #) and it hadn't changed any of my settings or asked for the drivers after uninstalling/restarting so I knew it hadn't really uninstalled and I dug out an ati uninstall tool they had put up for download once, and that saved me from having to go digging through my registry.

I recommend using the Omega version of the ATI drivers anyway: http://www.omegadrivers.net/. They provide finer control, and don't even bother with the bloated Catalyst app to tweak the settings.

and don't even bother with the bloated Catalyst app to tweak the settings. If you download just the driver package from ATI's site, you can dispense with the Control Center and use the old Control Panel instead. I believe the last driver set that included the Control Panel was 5.11, which appears to be no longer available from ATI, but you could always pull the file off an older installation CD or download it here. Note that if using the Control Panel you may give up some more recent driver features for the X1K series boards, such as ATI's driver-based overclocking utility. In any event, I am using the 5.11 Control Panel with the 7.1 driver set to run an X800GTO, and have had no problems.

I'm also having HUGE ATI driver problems. Just got a new system and it has the ATI x1950 PRO. I'm going to give the Omega drivers a shot, but if anyone is running this card and can post what is working for them - the specific driver and whether or now you're running Catalyst Control Center (and which version of that) would be greatly appreciated.
- To be more specific about my problem - The game crashes during the video at the start. The screen freezes, the audio continues for a few, the screen goes black, the audio jams, and the system requires reset/reboot.
I'm currently running 7.2 from 2/21/2007

What's your OS, ANM? Vista?
I'm using the ATI Driver Version 6.14.10.6635, CATALYST® Version 06.9 on an X850XT; a few months old but works very well. XP SP2, though.

Assuming this is a desktop machine, there was a problem with ATI drivers doing just what you describe with the old 6.2 Catalyist Drives and WIN98.
PROBLEM: When running with the 6.2 catalyst drivers on Windows 98, the game will freeze on loading. CARDS: Radeon 9200 Restoring your system to 5.9 Catalyst drivers should resolve the issue
That being said, if this is Vista it's possible that the old problem has resurfaced with the New OS and the latest drivers. Keep in mind Vista wasn't out yet when EA was developing this game.

Besides the old drivers, you may want to see if you can hunt down the ATI uninstall tool. They had it available one month, and I'm glad I saved the file, because I've had to dig it out 2 or 3 times when trying to install different drivers/catalyst because it didn't uninstall properly.
In fact, it's small enough that I'll compress and attach it here, just in case you need it.

There are definately some differences... The windows don't seem to work anymore... all the lots are dark inside the buildings... A couple of my sims look like thier faces exploded....
According to a few benchmark programs i have... the graphics are 25% faster but the game looks the same except the windows, the exploded faces, and a couple of bodymeshes aren't working, so i'm just going reinstall and see what happens....

Just to bring you up to date on my issues. I received a new card (RMA) and it is working much better. The old card crashed under any kind of 3D load - not just Sims, so something was wrong. The new card is much better. It's not glitch free, but I'm to the point now where I can test different drivers. Has anyone used the Omega Drivers with this card?

Omegadrivers with 9200? I've used them. They work well. I don't have the 9200 in my PC anymore (yay for X800 Pro!) but right now I'm not using official OR omega drivers (the catalyst control center causes lots of problems by the way. Suppost to make everything easier but one game I play does not work well and properly with the official drivers...)
I use NGO-ATI drivers right now... and they work very well for the game, and other games as well (the official ones caused some texturing problems in games where the textures had lots of seams and text had extra artifacts)
