I have not had a visit from the burglar in months. Not since pre-OFB, I think.
I miss that naughty reprobate and especially the excitement of the chase, fights, and screaming, sobbing kids.
Is it just my game? Are the sentry-bots some sort of hidden deterrent?

If you have Pets, just for fun try playing a family without a burglar alarm.

If you have Pets, just for fun try playing a family without a burglar alarm. Does this require having a pet actually in the house?

If you encourage agressiveness in your pet, it will act as a deterrant to would be burglars

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but wouldn't it make more sense just to drop the $250 for the alarm and teach a dog to be nice? I assume having an aggressive dog on the sims could backfire just as it could IRL. \
Maybe some players just want to see their dog tear a hole in the burglar's ass, I don't know.

I haven't had a burglar in a long while either. I really want to see a sentry bot zap a burglar or a pet attack, but it has been so long I am tempted to go back and start the Caliente house over from the beginning just so I can see one again.

Last I heard, all sims on the lot have to be asleep for the burglar to come. That never happens in my game (especially since the introduction of servos), and I never see the burglar.

I don't think it's all sims asleep, but there's a hefty penalty applied to people awake and about. Also, werewolves have a special effect and can attack the burglar.

Does the burgular alarm actually affect the odds of a burgular showing up? I suppose that makes some sense.
I've never seen a burgular, ever. I also put burgular alarms at every entrance, though. Might try taking them out, just to see.

What kind of penalty?

Sadly, there are no apparently known dog-to-human attack actions. Dogs cannot maul sims. This would lean against the idea that dogs can attack burglars.

I like my grouchy sims to train their dogs to be aggressive. I think the "chase sim" command that is then opened up is great! All of my nice normal families discourage this behavior in their dogs though. I have had quite a few burgulars in all of my hoods and always have, I don't have many sentry bots though, so maybe that does have an effect. I'd love to see a werewolf take down a burgular though. I heard that when they do they get all of the items in the burgulars inventory. I haven't had a chance to try it out to see if it is true.

You can force a burglar visit you by enabling the boolprop hack. Click on the letterbox by pressing shift and choose the "Force burglar" option.

I trained a dog to be agressive as a protector for a female sim living alone... and she wanted to be a werewolf. The dog fought and chased off every wolf that came on the lot, and when she adopted a couple while he was at work, he made them run away! about 3 times per wolf! I tried retraining him but it was very difficult. I should have gone with the alarm >.>
