DOWN WITH CHEESE!
|
I was reminded of this problem when I snaffled a couple of the original pleasantview houses for use in a custom hood.
With the base game, the half flowerbeds could be placed against a diagonal wall and were still able to be watered. One of the EPs (uni, I suspect) along the way has changed that. So in the base game, the flowers could be watered, now all those diagonal flower beds which were used to fill in the annoying gaps caused by diagonal walls just die as sims can't access them to water them!
Is there any chance that someone can make those diagonal flower beds revert back to the way they were?

That annoys me too, to the point where I'm ready to download always perfect plants.

As a compromise, there are decorative flowerbeds about, as independant objects. So if you didn't want your whole garden frozen in time, you could get the fake ones just for the inaccessible places.

The idea of the always perfect plants bugs me - just way too cheaty.
The other part of the problem is that you now need move objects on to be able to place those garden beds against the diagonal walls - do you also need that for the fake diagonal decorative ones? It sounds like a bit of a compromise, fill in the gaps, but still have to maintain the garden... but, where would I find them?!

Yep, me too. I like the NPC gardeners too much anyway - good breeding stock I know there are plastic plants out there somewhere. I think I'll dl some of those for my more ornate/out of reach garden creations.

I know windkeeper did almost all the plastic plants/flowers...but as you know, she is a featured artist and her stuff isnt free anymore. They still have the butterflies too.

Windkeeper's easy flowers? If that's the case, then they have been obtained.
Now to remember to install the files next time my game is closed.

I've just gone and got those too. Problem is the files appear to be corrupted and they won't unzip (or whatever the hell the correct term is).
Godamnit I want them.

Actually, as long as there isn't an old version in your game, go ahead and install them. They'll show up next time you reboot.

That's not what I remember - I'm not that sure of my memory here, but I played with base game only for a long time and never used that trick because you couldn't water them. Now I've added OFB, you still can't water them or any beds behind those little edging walls. I've seen pics in Tutorials that say you can use the edging so long as you leave a couple of tiles unedged for the sim to get into the area. Didn't work for me last week, so that was probably fixed in Uni or NL. Untrimmable shrubs & hedges on or next to a slope are another irritating feature of the big Maxis lots e.g. the Summerdream and the Capp mansions. The gardeners spend all day stamping their feet in frustration.

Sick of Bluewater? Try Sedona or Meadow Lawns instead. Meadow Lawns is a whole neighbourhood built to explore OFB. Sedona is a sub'hood you can install as a permanent alternative to Bluewater - it's an "out of this world" experience! www.moreawesomethanyou.com/cwykes

My experience with the base game was that the entire gardening AI was completely fucked up. I had a bit of garden fenced off so on one could get to it, and the gardener spent his whole day whining about being unable to go there. He'd garden a bit, then he'd whine a lot, then garden a bit more where he could reach and then keep whining and waving for every item out of reach, until "It's getting a bit late, I better leave".

You can use the windkeeper plastic flowers and shrubs in areas that are inacessible and regular maxis/ea ones in areas that are. I checked last night and she did in fact do the entire bush and flower categories, plus a couple of extra things she made.

I don't suppose anyone's come up with a hack that allows you to replant dead flowers instead of having to rebuy them when they die? I always liked that in the Sims 1 since I didn't have to try to remember which kind of plant was there or use the eyedropper or something before getting rid of the old one...
