what're YOU lookin' at?

Well, I finally got sick and tired of my huge Hatch family that had taken over Pleasantview in my game, so I decided to move 'em out and start fresh with a new CAS-created sim and some new digs. I downloaded a bunch of residential lots off MTS2 and a few from a site called WickedSims. Unfortunately, despite using Clean Installer to install the lots, pretty much every one I got off WickedSims crashes my game when I try to click their icons in the Lot Bin. I don't know why my game won't let me use them, but since I'm resigned to not playing them, I'd rather not have their data clogging up my hard drive either. I can't delete the offending lots in-game, as simply trying to select them crashes the game, so does any kind soul have a method for figuring out which lot is which and removing them from the game (using SimPE maybe?) without directly causing a BFBVFS? Thanks in advance...

You can open the lots in SimPE, the text lists should give the lot name.

Um, ok...I guess I need a little more detailed info on opening lots in SimPE, since I don't know where the specific lot files reside.

All lots are in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\LotCatalog The last lots you added have the highest number, so I'd start at the back and work my way forwards.
Open them in SimPE like any other package.

Ok, so I'm opening the files in the LotCatalog folder in SimPE and nothing is coming up in Plugin view or in any other view. This is happening with any file I try to open from the LotCatalog folder in SimPE. Any thoughts?

1) SimPE loads very slowly. Give it time. 2) If it actually seems to have completed the load and there are no resources... well, the file is probably corrupt.
I'd rename those files (or drag them out just in case) and see if the game works correctly.

Well, I figured out what was wrong, the Resource window wasn't opening when SimPE did. Having fixed that, I was able to delete a few lots, but there are some with no description in the Text file, so for now I have to leave those be and see what is still showing up in the catalog in-game, I guess.

Wouldn't removing them with the clean installer work? I do it all the time. The "stuff"that comes with the lot is still there, but the lot itself disappears from the lotbin. Have I been doing a bad thing?

I've done it too, TaWanda, with no ill effects so far. Clean Installer loads them up the whole folder at a time, gives a picture, super easy.

Hello, I'm new to the group I have the same problem as JennyDee, my game crashes when I try to delete a lot from the Lot Bin. Ok so I have SimPE and I've opened the particular lot in SimPE that I want to remove, so do I just delete all the files from the Resource List to get rid of it completely, or what do I do? Thanks in advance for your help

As I understand it, you only use SimPE to be sure you've found the right file -- the actual deletion is done in Windows like any other file.
I'd never realized Clean Installer could show thumbnails for lot files before. I'm going to have to try that when it get home; it would never even have occurred to me.

This is so cool! I never would have thought of using Clean Installer this way. I found 2 duplicates which I removed.

Yea, it is cool -- I found at least 6 dups, and a couple of empty packages that I removed as well.

What about the ones with names like cx_Character_cx_yada_yada_etc? Only 1 KB big. Leftovers from lots with characters included that Clean Installer removed?
