Internet Explorer just sucks in general, I sadly have to have it still installed because some sites just do not want to work with Firefox.

I mean, they're only just now caught onto the fact having tabs makes sense instead of having IE windows cluttering the bloody toolbar! Also, has anyone else noticed that when you try to update Windows and it tries to go the Microsoft Updates page, it won't work in Firefox?  Cheesy

It sounds like something with rude words to me.   The first words that come to my mind are f*ck and tw*t and w*nk.  Usually.

In Los Angeles, FTW usually means Fuck the World. You see it spraypainted under freeways and appears commonly in anti establishment song lyrics.

Yes, due to the stupid Active X programming. Install IE Tab, set Windows/Microsoft update to always open in an IE Tab (as well as any other sites that don't work properly in Firefox), forget about using IE.

I use Firefox, have for 2-3 years now, Opera before that. The only sites I currently can't open in Firefox are the SimWardrobe site and my logon for work via Citrix. I suspect active x scripting is the problem with the work site, it wanted to install .asp files and Firefox just ignored them. I don't know why SimWardrobe doesn't work, I keep forgetting 'open in IE tab', must try that.

PS linni, I don't believe you can uninstall Internet Exploiter, from what Jordi & Dizzy were saying on another thread, it's too integrated with the Windoze shell.

Simwardrobe works in Opera Wink

linni: MSIE unfortunately cannot be uninstalled from Windows 2000 or later. You can salvage Win98 (all versions) and Win95C by using the Win95A or Win95B explorer.exe instead of the "new" (IE4-integrated) one, but this is not available for the NT code tree. The old NT4 explorer.exe will not run Win2k or XP.

Ummm, you do know there's a difference between explorer and INTERNET explorer, right?  One is windows basic processing and you can't really do much other than hit the reset button if you shut it down. The other should only ever run if you start it and is a web browser. It doesn't really hurt anything to have it on your system, just don't use it as your default browser.

In IE versions 6 and lower (and Windows versions XP and lower), they are normally too integrated to tell. For instance, type in a URL in Windows Explorer's address bar, and it opens in IE. Similarly, type C:\ (or your hard drive's drive letter) in IE6's address bar and watch what happens.

And in answer to the statement, "you can't really do much other than hit the reset button if you shut it down", you can press Ctrl-Alt-Del, switch to the Applications tab, click on "New Task..." and type in "explorer".

EDIT: Also, linni, you might be interested in XPLite.

Can I just ask something? I thought I had firefox 2.0 installed before. Yesterday it reported an update and I installed it while I was on the phone, so I didn't really check the version. Now I look I actually have 1.5.0.9. But on the website it says 2.0 is available, but it can't be found when I tell the program to check for updates. Well maybe I never had 2.0 (can't trust my memory these days)
But has anybody tried 2.0? I heard it was a bit unstable, should I wait until the last minute to hop on? (maybe it is stable though, I could've been dreaming for all I know.)

I just don't get Firefox's Auto update sometimes, it wouldn't upgrade a 2.0 RC3 version to 2.0 even though it's been out for a week for example.  It seems to catch the 2.0.0.1 bugfix update just fine if you have 2.0 installed though.  At least it's better than Opera's Auto update which sticks another icon in the "Add/Remove Programs" list whenever you update it.

I've been using Fx 2.0 since the RC1 release and I haven't had the thing crash on me yet.  I barely use Opera anymore because of Fx's new version.

1.5.0.9

The links don't all work, I can't load the programmes page for instance. I assumed the links were active scripted or something bizarre.

ETA: No, the broken bits for me are on the programme page, click on either of the first two options, the NPC Replacer or the Hack Conflict Detector and the site flips me back to the front page. Maybe it isn't Firefox after all.

Edit2: Works fine in an IE tab.

In simwardrobe, I only have trouble opening multiple links at a time. If I try to open the programs page and objects page in separate tabs, it sends me to the main page in both tabs. So I go one link at a time in the same window. Not so good as I have to go back and forth a lot. Smiley

I'm using 1.5.0.9 and it just now worked fine for me. Maybe because I use NoScript.  Grin

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I used the information found here to install IE7 and WMP11.  I use Firefox, but I wanted to see what all the fuss over IE7 was about and how it compared to Firefox.  I still like Firefox better because I've grown accustomed to my favorite extensions, which aren't available in IE.  The interface is pretty, but as we know, that's just eye-candy, and you can do the same if you wanted to with skins in Firefox.  I upgraded to Firefox 2.0.  I had the latest updates for 1.5.9, but I had to download Firefox 2.0 separately.  I'm liking it so far.  I also like the built-in spellchecker, but I'd been using the one with the Google toolbar for a while and I still use it too.  I didn't have any problem downloading from here with Firefox 2.0 as someone mentioned.  I'm still getting the same dialogue box saying Open, Flashgot, DownThemAll, or Save.

I'm trying to decide if I should get my mom to switch over to Firefox.  She listens to me pretty well, but I just have to make it simple for her.  She is used to using IE and does better than most people on the computer, but I don't want to confuse her.  My concern is that she won't understand when a page doesn't display properly because it's been designed for IE or if she can't get something to work like it did before.  I'm finding those less and less though, and I figure with IE tab, I can just tell her if it doesn't work right, try clicking the IE button, and let me know.  What do y'all think?
