Game crashes on "change appearance"

this is with Pets - of course the first thing I did was take out my hacks - same problem - so I tried vanilla - OK

So it is somewhere in the DL folder - took out lipstick-eyeliner-eyeshadow and earrings etc - same problem (heard a rumor that those items were causing this)

Does anyone have any ideas?

Custom mirrors maybe? They aren't pets enabled.

Thanks to this great guide http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?p=1110038 I was able to isolate it to a clothing file DLd today (too bad there are so many of them.

I've actually found that pets sim to need alot of room to be able to get there collar on.  If you are experiencing other problems with the sim humans, it may not be the same problem.  Put a mirror in the living room and try change pet appearance.

ive found that yeah, pets go through endless jockying to get to just the right position by the mirror, most often ending in the change appearance of command failing with no message at all, when it should give that 'no space'  error bubble.    but it shouldnt CRASH the game.

Did you download any "Dress as top" mesh outfits?

Those are known to crash to desktop during change appearance and buying clothing.
