OC Question
« on: 2006 October 09, 15:12:16 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

So, I've been thinking about OCing my processor...if I have an Intel 3.4Ghz Dual core, and my temps are 32/4 on idle, and 40ish-50 on load, how much do you guys think I could safely OC it to?

And do you have to OC the processor in the BIOS, or are there external apps to do this?

No idea, but when I Googled overclocking 3.4Ghz dual core, I came up with a few thousand hits which included some very teckky OC forums.

Mine idles at -65C, but I'm operating it in a carbon dioxide freezer. Tongue

I guess I should ask there, huh. I figured you guys were pretty techy, so might as well get a question in.

Intel's pre-Core 2 Duo processors are extremely bad overclockers. They're extremely power-hungry and emit lots of heat. Without a custom heatsink and fan, I don't think you can push that processor over, say, 3.6GHz-3.7GHz tops.

You can OC from the BIOS, but there are Windoze applications that you can use as well. Try www.majorgeeks.com for overclocking utilities and system benchmarks.

Bah :p

It's a Catalan male name, the counterpart of Dutch Joris, German Georg and English George.

San Jordi is the Catalan protection saint (and no, I don't know why my German and Dutch parent gave me a Catalan name).

Not that I know of :p

Incidentally, if anyone recognizes where I got my avatar from I'd be surprised.

Wait, you mean someone DIDN'T know Jordi was a dude? He always seemed like a dude to me. And not really the name, even, but just the general manner in which he conducts himself. I find that most people, unless deliberately attempting to conceal it, tend to be pretty easily picked out.
