where has my flamingo wall light gone?

Haven't seen that fluorescent flamingo in a while.  It used to be in deco, but from OFB it's a wall light apparently.
I thought it was a GUID conflict, but yesterday I took out ALL my downloads and it is still not in the catalogue.  I cleared that groups.cache and checked my OFB objects file - it's date/timed exactly the same as the version file, so it looks OK and I didn't bother replacing it from the CD and then trying to patch again.  I installed a community lot called "The Flamingo" because of the number of them on the wall and lawn.  Went into it with testingcheats true - no flamingo's on the wall, no error messages and nothing in the error log apart from audio errors.  I have various script mods for stairs and stuff and the 'hood camera.. that's all that's left in at the moment.  Didn't think it could be them.

Anyone else missing this light and what do I do next?

This was done on purpose by Maxis...I think it's in one of the chat transcripts somewhere. It happened with NL, I think.

I guess they decided it belonged in wall lights instead of decorations because, well it is a light that goes on the wall Makes sense either way to me actually *shrug*

Ah, okay. I thought you meant they removed it from the game. Moving it in the catalog does make so much more sense though. At any rate, I didn't even notice it had even been moved because I don't use that light in practically any of my houses.

You know, that is exactly what I tend to do. Especially because you've got blue and pink ones and can use them to decoratively 'genderize' their cradle pods.

I have a nightclub called the flamingo.  I used it a lot too and I miss it.  Why don't I have it in my game at all now?
It's not in the catalgo either in lights OR deco and it doesn't show up in lots where I know I had them.

Do you have Nightlife installed?
Other possibilities is a custom light replacing it with the same GUID.

Well, in OFB, I find it just fine under "Wall Lights", helpfull encaptioned "Note: Not for kicking".

So if it's not there in my game, something must be overwriting it mustn't it? 
How do I find what is causing it not to appear?
I've taken all the downloads out, cleared the groups.cache and checked the date on my OFB objects file.  It hasn't been modified since I patched OFB so I suppose it's alright.  What do I do next?

I checked up the older item listings for game objects on Troll Sims and found the imfamous Neon Flamingo in the two categories but the thumbnail image was different - did they remove the original decor item and modify it to a wall-fixed light for Nightlife?

In my game (Uni/NL/OFB), only the latter wall light version is present (no black backing like the first version).

Scan your downloads with SimPe checking GUID control. That way you can see if something is overwriting the Flamingo light. Some items are supposed to have conflicting GUIDs, hacks mostly.

I took all the downloads out, so I don't see how it can be a GUID conflict - but thanks kaarinah.

Thanks for the icons trollsan and the links with the prices of the lights.  I'll look for a 99th time in game in case I didn't recognise it.    If the object itself has actually changed that might be why the old ones on the commuity lot walls are gone.  I can see they might not change into new ones, but I would have expected an error message.  I'm wondering if the changes in NL, just didn't make it into OFB somehow - I don't have NL.

Just checked (just remembered about it actually) and I have all expansions and FFS and Glamour installed. I still have the flamingo wall light-it is toward the back of the wall light catalog. You know, on the next 'page' bit

I don't know if this applies to GUID conflict as well, but I've found that replacements and overrides (like unlocked outfits and default skins) are detected by the game anywhere within My Documents/EA Games/The Sims.  They don't have to go in the downloads or saved sims folder.
Same goes for some meshes.

Ok I think I know what happened.  EA have made the new flamingo a Nightlife object.  I don't have it because I don't have Nightlife.  When I added OFB to my base game, I lost my base game deco flamingo and didn't get the new one.  Sucks!

Ivy has very kindly sent me a package file for the base game flamingo, so I now have that back in my game and I'm happy.  Thanks for posting everyone.

Yup, the change didn't get forwarded to those only having base + OFB...an oopsie on Maxis's part.

Anyone else missing flamingoes, here they are, they will show up back in deco.
