In a perfect world Sim object creators would also realize that TS2 is multilingual, and either update all language strings, or delete them all except US English. Just about every second object I download has the wrong text in game because they only change US Englsh, not UK English.

I wish.
I played the Game in german for a long time because I was trying to improve my language skills, but eventually gave up. All of the cloned objects in the game would just show the description of the original, which was especially problematic for objects that were hacked because I didn't know which ones they were of all the custom content. No info on wallpapers or anything either. I don't understand why it has to be so hard, it doesn't even have to be in the same language- just use the english description in the right place!

Have to make a comment on the dyslexia. I get that it can affect spelling, but the sprinkling of apostrophes like candy has to stop.

Amen. Apostrophes aren't letters and numbers. If you're confused for any reason, seek an editor or figure it out.

As ALREADY stated, dyslexia DOES affect punctuation! So if my efforts, and yes I AM making one, isnt good enough for you ... tough shit basically!

I repeat: seek an editor. Remember, I'm dyslexic, too. Don't harp on me like I don't get it. The deal works like this: if it's incorrect; it's incorrect. If you can't, for whatever reason, fix it on your own, and you care what your writing looks like, then you will find a way to get it right. If you don't care, then don't.
Be prepared, here and elsewhere, to have people notice when you're wrong. Some will poke, some will ignore, but the mistakes will be noticed. If you don't like it, then tough shit. Dyslexia is not an excuse to get things wrong and be forgiven: it's a challenge to work hard at getting it right.

I know, sorry I snapped at you ElfPuddle Just faced the supermarket, a trafic jam & my drunken neighbour who punched me 2 days ago for putting rubbish out on my own garden for the bin-men! Hope you can forgive me? If you have any advice about how to 'see' what is correct, then by all mean's share it with me, because Im damned if I can (Even my childhood Dr told me to live with it, Dyslexia is just a pathetic excuse for the retarded).

You're forgiven. I wish I had a good suggestion. I tell my kids to constantly spell check and use a dictionary. That, and studying grammar (for apostrophes) are my normal suggestions....my best idea is to put a disclaimer in your siggie and say thanks when people correct you (and then edit the error). I tell my students off the bat that I'm dyslexic and they should feel free to correct me. When they find grievous errors, we laugh together and I fix it. And then they wonder how such an idiot became their English Teacher. Hard work!

It also helps that my dyslexia is mild. If I go slowly, I can usually get it right.

Elven Ranger, 1) Nice siggie!!! 2) Trying hard makes it worse sometimes...relax! Jelenedra, I'm glad it's the dyslexia. The alternative (my being stupid so I understand stupid) just didn't sit well.

Definately not the case. Also, the being an English Teacher helps, it keeps you fluent in 'teenager' which is a branch form of 'stupid.' =p

not to be mean or anything, but before you go making fun of someone else, perhaps you should check your own work first. i.e. "accept" and "except" are not the same thing.

It's good that you know that. Maybe you should have quoted the alleged error.

It's here if you actually wanted it Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions? « Reply #186 on: August 31, 2006, 06:29:45 AM » ... I can except dyslexia as an excuse for misspelling 'by' as 'my' but not for thing's: it doesn't even have the same word shape as things so the dyslexia excuse doesn't fly there.

Oops. Well, English is not my first or even second language :p
And I have the habit of continually restructuring my sentences, so errors like this slip in. (Originally had something there where 'except' made sense.)

as i said, i wasn't trying to be mean. i am a newbie and am still trying to figure things out. i tried to quote someone on another thread here and messed it up terribly and did not want to repeat the same mistake. one thing i have learned about this site, is that some people will tear you apart for silly mistakes. while i find some of it amusing, i am sure some of the ones being picked on do not. however, based on what i've seen here, you should not post if you can't take any abuse. lol.
thank you, sagana, for the quote.
