I went to play my game and the game will not load up. I took out cd and found a huge scratch on it. Any one know how to get rid of it? Or fix it up? As it stands I can't play my game. (sigh)

I believe there is a site which allows you to use a download that bypasses the need for a CD. My brother says gamecopyworld.com. It's only for those who own a copy first, so isn't illegal. edited to fix lousy grammer. Sorry grammer police

Sorry it won't be of help. My kids use it on the other computer so we can all play and it works great. I bought a CD cleaner/repairer at Walmart that sort of worked but if the scratch is really deep, or in the same directions as the info it won't help. After that I'm out of ideas.

The scratch must be deep for I can't even get my game to load up. the scratch is going across the CD. Edit: Well I bought another copy of Nightlife and reinstalled again so I have to start everything all over again

In the future, try resurfacing. This can be done really cheap.
Get any kind of metal or copper polish and apply it generously using a thin cloth, in a radial direction. Continue until the level of polish is spread evenly across the surface (the scratches should be completely filled). Rinse it off under flowing water, then continue the cleaning by using a new wet cloth and again in a radial direction wipe off any remaining water and polish. Let it dry, and in most cases the CD will work again. Make a 1:1 disc copy and in the future use your copy disk. Use a no CD patch or mini-image to play (this is perfectly legal).

Usually if you've already bought a game that requires a CD they'll use your registration as proof of it and will sell you a new CD at a much lower price (like $5) if yours gets damaged.
Also, at my house we have this thing called the Scratch Doctor that resurfaces CDs, and I've seen that thing repair some pretty nasty scratches. It would have to be extremely deep for something like that to not work.

What and never play the Sims again? I may be a "sucker" but at least I am back to playing. Plus I don't like to repeat history with the mistakes I've done in the past. I agree with you JM on the crappy cd quality that EA brings out.

Either a no cd patch ("fixed exe") or a virtual disc ("mini-image"). I use the latter. Discs are used only for installing, patching (when needed) and reinstalling… keeping them in the drive all the time wears them—and the drive—down.

Isn't that what I suggested? The no-CD thing?

There is one thing I don't understand. Why did you buy NL again, giving you no additional content, when you could've bought OFB or *shudder* FFS and got something extra out of the deal?

I have OFB and I don't like the way it breaks my game. (broke final exam at Uni) I tried Servo, it was funny to have a romantice sim woohoo the robot, but after awhile the fun wore off. FFS, didn't grab my interest. It also made clothing go *poof*, red flashing walls, etc. Yes, but Kokopellis are kinda stupid.
Aww, kinda stupid? what a nice thing to say JM.

Final Exams are not broken in Uni, they were broken in NLp2. OFB later corrected the problem, at least as of OFBp1, but it was broken as early as NLp2.

Nope, sorry, but the final exam is broken for me. I cannot get one single student to graduate summa cum lautte (or how ever you spell that) the first time I installed OFB. Plus I have no patchwork in my game.

Well, then, install some patchwork, genius. Do Kokopellis just delight in being as stupid as possible or something?

I don't like to repeat myself, so see the other threads I wrote in for further explantion as to WHY I don't have patchwork. I know, I should run two cables etc, but due to the way thing are I can't. sheesh lol

Hey, Kokopelli, if you need a cd of stuff, I wouldn't mind mailing it to you.
I have a cd burner I never use and a ton of cds.
I promise I am not an evil hack person. (not that anyone could do anything to an offline pc) =p
