Hey there. I am currently tired of my sims families and the neighborhood, and thinking about starting up fresh. But I dont want to delete the neighborhood, just wanna removes all the characters in it (NPC, townies, unitownies etc) and spawn new ones.
So anyone know the proper steps in doing so?

So basically use the DeleteAllCharacters to wipe out all sims.
Does it automaticly re-spawn all townies and NPC, or does I need to do it manually?

It will respawn NPCs as it needs them. Townies should respawn as long as you don't have hacks that prevent that.

PLEASE!!! go read the thread that Blue pointed out!
Nec and I have discovered with MUCH testing that deleteallcharacters and generating townies is completely and utterly screwed up in OFB!

So must respawn all of them manually? Per each town? That sucks .

I'm afraid that if you have OFB installed, that is the case.
The alternative is to uninstall OFB, start your hood, deleteallcharacters, spawn townies and then reinstall OFB - probably take as much time as doing it manually.
I figured the best way to go was to start a complete custom hood - you end up with the pleasantview townies, but most of them are at least tolerable.

Nah... I think I'll just do it the hard way. One of the reason of this clearing my neighborhood is that I am bored with weird face Goopy Gilscarbo and long nose Benjamin Long.

I just did this a few days ago and it only took about an hour.

I just read those threads and that totally sucks. I wonder why one of my custom hoods was not generating townies correctly. Meh!

JUst go to your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods/N00_/Characters and delete everythign in that folder. All the NPCs will respawn as needed, and Tonwies won't come back unless you respawn them yourself. PLus, you keep ALL of your premade lots.
People don't like the way I do it, for some reason, don't know why.

Lil Brudder - we found that no matter which way you deleted the characters, the generation process was screwed up.
There is quite simply no easy way to deleted characters and start over with a fresh hood... I guess the reason I'm happy to go with pleasantview townies at this stage is because I've always cleared them out before and have never really done anything with them.

Sure you could. You still wouldn't have any new characters, just like ness stated.

So let's say you make a household you want to convert into townies. Is Inge's shrub the only way to accomplish this?
And another question, if you use the Make Townie feature with the dead tree object to make each townie one by one, will it also create teen and child townies?

yes, if you create them in CAS you need Inge's shrub to add them to the townie pool - there may be a way to do it in simpe, but I'm simpe-phobic and really haven't looked into that.
The tree can make teen, child and elder townies and downtownies - you can set age, skin tone and gender, or you can leave them to be random. You get the option of keeping the townie or not before the townie gets added to the pool. The one option on the tree that doesn't work is "make all townies" - that's the same deal as the letterbox

it probably is... I don't mind some of the more unique townies, and liked being able to mass-produce them - the individual approach bores me.

Well... If you want to create townies ONE BY ONE, then it might sounds like a deal. But I dont believe townies are worth all that troubles. I still cant believe the bugged townie spawn system the made for OFB .

And of course on the tree you can't create special townies (vampires, MrBig, slob) unless you've set it to make downtownies, first.

Actually I found the spawn system does work in fits and starts, it seems to spawn a few more each time you try it. When I was playing around with it the longest run of townies it created was 19 before it encountered an error. They often showed up with the Grim Reaper and psychiatrist head while spawning, but turned out to be normal townies. The only problem I had was that the ratio of teens and children was not correct (with regular townies, there are supposed to be 17 Adults, 8 teens and 5 children). So if you spawn a few times, clicking reset each time after the error, you can get close to 17 adults, and then you can individually create the teens and children.
(When I say individually I mean using the tree to create individual townies, not going into CAS and using Inge's shrub - that method would not be worth it for townies, IMHO)

I was paying attention to the character icons that were showing as the townies were being generated and after the 6th time I realized that it uses the icons of existing characters and blank ones until new character files are established. Then it starts using the ones it first generated about halfway through. Completely useless information, but that is why you see grim, crumplebottom, the psychiatrist, and I think the blank one m,ight be the remote control car...and you see the sim you made to generate townies. Completely useless information, but interesting nonetheless
