Restocking bug -- anyone seen this? (Pescado)?
« on: 2006 March 14, 22:54:36 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Ok I have a really annoying restocking bug.  It seems to show up on ALL my business lots, home or community.

I have one person asssigned to restock until they get the gold badge.  I noticed that she was going outside, and crossing the street!  Lo and behold, there is an "out of stock" sign sitting ACROSS THE ROAD, and the spot where the inventory is SUPPOSED to be, I can't put anything on.  Deleting it doesn't help, something else shows up, and I still can't place anything in the spot where the inventory belongs.  Most of the time if I go to buy mode the out of stock sign disappears anyway, so I can't delete it.  I have had this happen with things that belong on shelves, AND stuff that just hangs out on the floor.

I DO use the mod that allows you to put custom content on shelves and 6 items on each shelf, but I don't think this causes it, because the same thing has happened to floor inventory.

There's some discussion about this bug in Numenor's thread, here.  No fix, as far as I know, but I think it's related to having crowded shelves, and possibly custom content.

Okay, rather than me read 189 posts most of which are "Thanks!" Thanks!" "Great!" "Thanks!" "Awesome!" "Thanks!" "You rock!" "Thanks"... can you just tell me, does this bug have anything to do with Numenors hack that lets you put custom items on shelves?

Liss, you ought to take the hack out and see if that fixes things. It is what I'd do if I suspected it was causing the trouble.
I had to remove those little telly's that can sit on any surface that Numenor made cos they were causing conflict with the nannies. (found it out all by myself-go me!)

I was having this problem with robots on shelves. About a zillion out of stock signs were spawned on a tile on the back corner of the lot.

I used the stuck object remover or whatever it's called and it deleted them all. And of course I don't put things on shelves that aren't supposed to go there anymore.

I have this bug without any custom content whatsoever including hacks. Its a bonafide bug, at least in my game. Sometimes the stuff teleports to the back corner which I can move once its restocked, but if it teleports to the portal corner there is nothing I can do with it.

Sorry...heh.  Embarrassed Bug discussion is towards the end.  It doesn't appear to be because of the hack, as many people, myself included noticed this before having the hack installed.  I switched the more version for the less version, and haven't seen the problem since.  I had been placing some items on shelves with moveobjects, which allowed me to cram them together like the more version of that mod allows.  I tend to think it's related to that, having more items on the shelves as intended, but then, I'm not sure.  That's just been my experience.  Undecided

Me neither. I use Numenor's hack, first the "more" version, then switched to "less" version. This bug never happens to me, yet.

I started having this problem before downloading Numenor's hack, so I do not think it is related.

I keep getting Out-of-stock signs in the rear corner of my home business lots.  It is not that bad really, just a minor annoyance.  I just go to buy mode and move them.

I read that thread and its useful. Here's the super gist of it all

It was mentioned by a poster that even without any hacks , the restocking error occured (out of stocks signs are found in unaccessible places). So the conclusion over there is that there is a maxis bug.

As for using the awesome Numenor's hack (even with the "LESS" hack), the problem of flying signs occur because it is a maxis bug.

His advice is to use boolproptestingcheatsenabled true, and shift-click on the stocksigns and click "delete" till every unacessible flying sign is deleted.

That's it. You don't have to read the thread anymore.

This happened to me today--couldn't figure how on earth that sign got back to the far corner of the lot.  When I tried to move it in Buy Mode, the sign became invisible.  I finally sent a sim out to restock and that took care of the problem.

Numenor explained his theories about this to me, and I was able to replicate it:
Put two objects on sale, both 'small' objects.

When one (the one on the right) gets sold, go into buy mode and delete the card. Replace it with a 'large' Maxis item, but it won't fit by normal means so you have to use Moveobjects on...

As you can see they are overlapping each other. When the large plant is sold, the stock card migrates to the edge of the lot every time, and the plant disappears, even when restocked. Numenor thinks that the moveobjects on bit is the key, as when I replaced this:

with this:

Which doesn't require moveobjects on, the restocking was normal. It could be that people using Numenor's hack are using moveobjects on to place the stock?

I've had the problem with and without Numenor's hack, and I don't use moveobjects to place things.  Undecided

Most of the time if I go to buy mode the out of stock sign disappears anyway, so I can't delete it.

I wondered whether you could move it using your sim's inventory rather than in build mode?

maxon, no- the signs remain invisible in stock mode, inventory or buy.
Renatus, someone else just told me they's had the same problem without using the moveobjects cheat. Maybe it's just a problem with deleting something that's in stock? Although, I haven't managed to get it to work without the moveobjects. Maybe I'm doing something differently, or maybe the actual objects used play a part.

I had that problem in my flowershop, but I didnt have numenors hack in, and i didnt use move objects to restock or stock my shelves. Some of the flowers simply got sold, and the restock sign teleported to the corner of the lot.

Perhaps it is tied to the use of custom objects in the shop?

This issue has happened with several objects, flowers, floorbots, all kinds of things, without the use and with the use of moveobjects. It seems completely random. I have no custom content or hacks in my game when these teleport issues occur.

Most of the time if I go to buy mode the out of stock sign disappears anyway, so I can't delete it.

I just have my sim restock the item and then move it in buy mode, unless on the rare occasion it is somewhere that my sim can't get to it.  Then it just stays there and my sims whine and bitch about not being able to reach it.

I also have had it happen with every manner of item, custom or Maxis.  I have a sim with a yard sale as a home business, and all kinds of things teleport to the back of the lot.

Maybe...and this is just a theory, so bare with me...but maybe this is a bug caused by Maxis code, and the game actually shipped with this bug, and no one at Maxis ever discovered it, despite their extensive (no doubt) playtesting.

Just a theory.
