three finger salute?

man, ctrl-alt-delete is not the first thing that came to my mind...
That phrase has been around since the days of DOS.

I'm glad you found it.  Now that you have removed it, is everything going like it should?

Everything is working great. Thanks for asking Smiley

(and I had to giggle about the three-finger salute. I'm definately old enough to have been using computers before Windows and when computers had big red switches on them).

We still have a 9-track tape drive at work. Here's one for you... do you remember 8" diskettes?

Wow, I don't think I'm that old, but I remember when 3.5 inch drives first came out and some of the games we got had to include both 8.25 and 3.5 diskettes for the same program because not everyone was totally up to date and had 3.5's yet.

Course, I also remember when it was a big deal that we upgraded our Apple IIE from 64k to 128k of memory so that we could play Wheel of Fortune.
And trying to play with paint programs on a monochrome screen...

I remember before 8'' diskette when you hooked up a tape recorder (a regular one) to your old apple clone.  And that was the NEC plus ultra and I was very impressed to see it demonstrated.

Oh and I remember working on computer that had no monitor, just a printer.  You'd read your output on it.

My sister always worked as an IBM machine operator in a bank - she started out when they just made the punched cards!

But did you know the first computer was actually designed (although the designer couldn't afford to finish it) during the Napoleonic Wars?  They made it at the science Museum in London and it worked!

Got me on that one LOL! Punch cards were a bit before my time as well. We had the 8" drive for converting info from our PC to a client's Mini. Finally the client got rid of the Mini and no more 8" disks.

That's pretty interesting about the first computer. I didn't know that.

I saw something on TV about it - it was all brass and gears and levers and stuff!  I think after Waterloo the guy couldn't get anyone interested any more, so that's why he ran out of money.  I guess it's the British equivalent of Napoleon's Channel Tunnel!

My sister spent about 35 years working on those machines, so she must have seen some changes!  (Incidentally, she was the operator who sent the ransom for the american embassy hostages in Iran!)

Charles Babbage's Difference Engine! Sometimes I think it's a shame that the funding held it up... who knows what things would be like now if computing had taken off then. Then again, it might not have been a good thing at all (see the William Gibson/Bruce Sterling novel, The Difference Engine, for a horribly dystopian look at it).

I'll tell you one thing - it's use would have been dominated by men - women would have been considered too stupid to understand it!

I wouldn't bet on that. Ida Byron was also instrumental in it's development - before they ran out of money.

That was BEFORE Queen Victoria!  She set Womens' Emancipation back 100 years!

Funny thing, though, when it came to the first punch card machines, they were all worked by women - it was considered too mundane a task for MEN!
