Too true Brynne. If she had called the song "Isn't It Typical", then that would have been closer!

But it no doubt fitted the tune!  And you have to bear in mind that Alanis' first language isn't English, and the term "ironique! in French has a slightly different meaning and usage than in English.

"It's like rain on your wedding day."
Not irony. Just plain bad luck.

Alannis is Canadian.

Alanis Morissette isn't French Canadian.  Celine Dion is.  Don't get the two confused.  One is extremely annoying, and the other only mildly so.

Angelyne, you read the wrong description Smiley - you should search for  HUMOR, not for IRONY.

Irony, Satire,  and S arcasm contain a Critic Point of View on the subject. Saying - "doh, I am clever", contains a critic point of view on myself, i.e. "I am dumb".

Humor doesn't contain any criticism   - it's mutilated description of a situation. Stand-up artists describe their experiences in a humoristic way. They don't intend to critisize anybody, just to laugh at it.
The anecdotes are good example of humor.

So, this thread is a humoristic one - not ironic or sarcastic. We laugh at the "fee issue", we don't critisize it...Smiley.

Well according to my albeit small research today, irony means saying one thing and meaning the opposite.  If you go back to the poor original poster, who has since changed his post and then fled the forum (who could blame him), he/she was asking if anyone paid the 40 dollars.  Everyone jumped in and acted horrified and implied that had circumvented the system.  So, since everyone was saying one thing, but meaning another, while the original poster was initially unaware of the truth, that sounds like a classic case of irony to me.  Could it even fit the classic description of dramatic irony?

That's my understanding of it anyway.  But then I'm french .. canadian... so no poking fun of Celine Dion !  just kidding Smiley

I live in a hole in the ground, and even I know about her being annoying. Even though I have no idea what she does to annoy people, her annoyingness is legendary, and I highly doubt it's because of her warrior princess antics.

No, they amuse me, but they annoy other people, apparently.

"Could it even fit the classic description of dramatic irony?" [angelyne]

An example of Dramatic Irony:  "Ah poor Yorik, I knew him"
(Hamlet, holding Yorik's skull).

No humor here, but a great deal of Irony, because Hamlet hardly knew Yorik, which wasn't one of his noble class.

IRONY: You prepare a scathing letter of resignation, and upon placing it in your boss' box at work, find a pink slip in your own.

SARCASM: Your reply to your boss says, "Thank you. I love you, too."

---

I don't pay my subscription fee. I simply PM-ed my PayPal username and password to Pescado to do with as he wishes.

[edit] For non-Americans, I should point out that a pink slip is a notice of being fired or laid off (sacked).
