Homes? Where do you download them?
« on: 2005 December 08, 23:32:29 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Ok In my series of lazy where do i download these questions here is another. Homes/lots where do you download them. I would like some that aren't loaded with custom content beyong walls/floors and are pretty much unfurnished or basicly only furnished with maxis objects etc. Anyone know of any good sites for these. I've been downloading from Modthesims2 and the main site but would like to know of any others you might have found. I like lots that aren't too huge.

Check out Reggikko's place http://www.laverwinklesims.com/ Reggikko's houses are stunning and the starter homes seem so spacious I probably won't end up moving my sims on up in the world.

I dropped in for 5 minutes and spent over 2 hours downloading stuff.  Witch has stuff there as well - the starter homes rock as does the caravan lot.

I have some over at http://www.insimenator.net (Community Downloads section) the "affordable" ones (under $20,000) are all on smaller lots, all of them are unfurnished and clean of hacks.

Thanks, vilia! Now I don't have to Pimp my own Stuff! The only custom content in any of my starters and all but one of my other lots are walls and floors. Everything has been created in a clean game, so no hacks or other nastiness tagging along.

Oh man you guys are gonna send me on yet another downloading spree.  I swear that you won't find anyone worse than me.  I started playing TS2 after a 6 months hiatus, a little more than a month ago and, and believe it or not, I must have played the game for 2-3 hours in total.  The rest of my time has been spent downloading, organizing, creating sim families, downloading and organizing.  Every night I go home with the firm intention of playing and get distracted by something I see on a website and download some more.  The other night, my internet connection was hosed.  You'd figure, hey maybe I would actually play for a change ... but Nooooo... I did some organizing, got frustrated about having no net and spent an hour with tech support fixing it.  Then downloaded some more.

I think I need professional help.

Oh and back on topic .... I spent the entire evening last night (when I was supposed to be playing of course) , downloading and organizing houses from CycloneSue on TSR.  Her houses really rocks http://www.sims2.thesimsresource.com/profiles/view.php?mid=784901

PS Reg, your mad scientist house is amazing.  I am downloading it now.  (is anyone suprised?)

Me too... </plug>

I don't download houses much as they are all too big and unplayable and too expensive for my sims.  How often do you actually let your sims move?  It's mostly kids growing up and leaving home or new cas sims.   I also started with a PC that couldn't handle the graphics and everything took forever to load, so I hated (furious state) all the large lots Maxis put in the game.  I didn't find many good small community lots so I built my own and went on to matching houses.  I put them on TSR to fill the gap for other simmers.  Feedback is positive.

sims2 estates specialises in houses http://www.strategyplanet.com/thesims/simestates2/index.htm
There's another thread here that people put good links on for houses - something about your ideal house to download.
EDIT - oops I think that was on variousimmers.  Still the first page of this thread on as long as we're doing downloads was mostly about houses

Sick of Bluewater?  Try Sedona or Meadow Lawns instead.  Meadow Lawns is a whole neighbourhood built to explore OFB.  Sedona is a sub'hood you can install as a permanent alternative to Bluewater - it's an "out of this world" experience!  www.moreawesomethanyou.com/cwykes

I went to http://www.strategyplanet.com/thesims/simestates2/index.htm and it seems all their files are hosted on file planet, which you have to buy a subscription (a fairly expensive one at that) to access the files. Which is a bit ironic in my opinion since file planet purports to be a site where you can access free this and that...was this your experience as well or have I just not figured out the process yet?

It is free, you just have to register.  The free area usually has a line for downloads and you have to wait your turn.  It doesn't take very long.  The paid subscription - which I don't have - is supposed to allow you to download without waiting.

I think FilePlanet (and similar services) are intentionally confusing Tongue Poke around and you'll see the free option, the free servers are listed under the "pay" servers. I haven't had to wait long either.

I used to have a paid subscription for File Planet, but for me it was a total waste of money. I think I had wanted to download Bodyshop when Maxis released it before the release of TS2, and the wait was something ridiculous, so I sprang for the subscription. I got the file right away, but couldn't use it because *smacks forehead with hand* my old ThinkPad was barely able to play all the TS1 EPs, so Bodyshop was definitely not gonna happen.

Anyhoo, short story long, I let my subscription expire and have never had to wait for a file since. Or pay for one.
