The only reason I never downloaded with filesharing was that at the time that it was still possible, I had dial-up only and it took to long. I still don't buy CD's if I like only one or two songs on them. The closing of the free filesharing ventures got the music companies zero income from me. For me, to tempt me to buy a CD, the majority of the songs on it have to appeal to me, or else I will not buy.

Thank you all for your feedback on this.  I do appreciate it.  However, I feel the need to defend myself a little.  I can't say too much...I don't want to sway any remaining surveyors...

This is for a class called "Popular Music of the Americas Since 1840".  Classical is not popular music, so it does not apply, but I WILL be mentioning that the classical genre was not included on my ranking list.  Also, I know classical may be someone's all-time favorite music genre, and that's wonderful, but I chose these particular genres for a reason, which I'll get to in a sec.

Also, I agree that Pop and Rock are not the same genre.  Chicago and Britney Spears have nothing in common musically.  But I lumped them together for a reason as well...

This is a Social Science class...not a music class...it just happens to deal with how society shapes music, and how music shapes society.  I lumped Pop and Rock together because of the social following of both, not so much because they have a lot in common with each other, but because they have so little in common with the rest.

I hope that made some sense!
