Hello! This is probably a dumb question. Fair warning.
I want to edit the shortcut properties so that it points to updater.bat, but I'm not exactly sure what to put in the box so that it works properly. I tried plugging "C:\Users\User\Desktop\updater.bat" into the target field but I have a strong hunch that's not where I'm supposed to put it. I also tried to google it but all the results that came up were explaining other shit to do with shortcuts. Plus, I'm not sure what term is appropriate to search for the result I want.
I swear I'm not a noob! Its just been awhile!

@basbas: haha, actually had to install that to play the base game right , because something- somewhere advised me to install that expansion with the base game in order to get it working.

Just put updater.bat into whatever folder you're going to be keeping it in, copy its location from the Windows Explorer bar and put it in quotes in the Target field. So if updater.bat is forever going to reside on your desktop, the location you've got is correct. The "Start In" field should show the folder location (so "C:\Users\User\Desktop" in this case.) If you're sticking updater.bat in a different folder--say, C:\Program Files (x86)\AwesomeMod Updater for example--you'd put "C:\Program Files (x86)\AwesomeMod Updater\updater.bat" in the Target field and "C:\Program Files\AwesomeMod Updater" in the Start In field.

Thank you! I wasn't sure what the difference was between the "Start In" and "Target" fields. I tried quotes but I guess I must have gotten something wrong along the way. Much appreciated, Ambular. One more question, if you don't mind: Does doing this run updater.bat and then TS3EP09.exe afterward? That would be the gist I got from reading this thread; that it would run one and then the other in succession after checking for updates. If there not a way to do this, then I'm assuming I'll have to run them separately. I thought there was because I thought I remembered doing something similar in another game years ago.

The beta AwesomeMod site seems to be down and the Updater is just stuck in an endless loop of trying to access it, failing, and retrying again.
Is there a way to have it bypass that particular check?

Do you actually need to update AM, or are you just using the updater to launch the game?

I actually needed to update. I had recently reinstalled Windows. At any rate, it's back working now.

The updater seems to be broken today as of 3:45pm EDT. I let it run through attempt 53 of connecting through the Gamma server, but it never got past there.

The updater has been breaking 3booter.exe for me for a while now. It'll install the file but when I try to run it, I'm told '3booter.exe is not a valid win32 application' and I have to manually replace the file.

Same issue here, it's now 6:35 PST (So 9:35 EDT). Updater stuck on Gamma.

I think I'm having the same problem. If anyone knows of a workaround, I'd be much obliged. Is this the issue you guys are having too?

Gamma has exploded and no longer responds to commands. We don't know why and the administrative contact there is MIA. Use one of the other mirrors.

So I removed the lines from the .bat that mentioned gamma, and the game started up successfully. I guess that forced it to choose another server. Is there a better way to get the program to stop trying to connect with it? Or do we just edit gamma out of updater.bat?

Some kind of limit on the number of connection attempts would be nice. So if, say, five attempts fail, it just moves on.

I am a n00b, and know nothing about programming. Can someone please help me with getting my AwesomeMod working now that the updater just keeps timing out.

Surely you don't expect the speshul snowflaek to update awesomemod manually.

I did this also, removed anything that referred to the gamma server, and it works fine.

Yeah, that all seems so much simpler than updating manually. GO, UPDATER! WOOOO!

Today I got a message saying my AM was outdated and I should come here and install the latest version. Thing is, latest version is updated up to 1.66 and I'm still playing with 1.63 while I wait for all my mods to be updated for 1.66 so I'd like to know if this version of AM will still work for me or if I should ignore that message and keep playing with the AM version I currently have.

Eh, based on the relatively limited suite of changes, I'm inclined to suspect you could just plug in the 166 version, ignore the screaming, and it will run. I haven't tried it and I can't guarantee nothing would explode, but that's what *I* would do, because I'm like that.

I did that and there was much screaming from EA about a core mismatch...haven't managed to launch the game yet but I don't think AM is the problem (I also dl-ed a million other things old and new that could be the culprit)

Sorry to bother a thread that has been down for a while, but having a small issue with AM. Been trying to play Sims 3 for the last few months, but when I go to launch AM, I get the following error: Been trying to find a workaround or fix, but all I could find are posts saying to have the WGET command ignore certificates, but I have no idea how to do that.

It looks more like your problem is with the updater. Get rid of it and update manually.
