Is the "Burglar" Trait good for anything?
« on: 2009 August 16, 01:12:51 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I had a sim-baby born last night with the Burglar trait.  Googling around for this brings up conflicting information about what this trait can actually do.  Some have said that it only gives the adult "Burglar" trait sim the ability to sneak anywhere, but that's it.

Is that good for anything?  Can they swipe objects?  If not, then what good is it except maybe for story-making filming purposes?  Is it a waste of a good trait?

For background: the baby is the grandchild of a maid NPC with the Klepto trait who became a thief.  Her daughter, the mother of the baby is a level 3 thief, but has no special traits and does not have Klepto.

I hear they can sneak into houses at night past 12:00. But I'm not sure if they will do "rabbit hole" thievery or what when they sneak.

I believe that no matter if the mentioned "sneak after midnight" is true, it will be a waste of a good trait, because you will have to wait until the sim is minimum YA to have any kind of eventual advantage. Before this age they will be simply limited by a Curfew.
So far, burglars are not playable. So your sim will have a trait that makes it to NPC anyway.

Answer: It does nothing except enable the ability to Sneak.

What benefit does Sneak have then? Just a slower and useless animation? Can you ninja into the army base and steal the new prototype B504 laser rifle?

It amuses me. Do you need another reason?

Burglar Trait: Just as useless as Never Nude, Hydrophobic, Daredevil, Evil.
Well... The last two have a few more Actions but It's not "Highly" useful.

Woo, Extreme/Evil everything. That gets old fast.

I agree. At first reading a "dastardly book" was quite amusing but later, it was more of a "just read a freakin book".
However I do like the "never nude". In my opinion it's kinda cool when they take baths and showers in their swimsuits, however truly unuseful it may be. The only good thing about Evil is "taking candy from a baby"... ha, love that. Cool

Aha! Never nude takes bath in swimmsuit? Good, I always wished to place a bathtub in the garden. It will be kind of useful.

A bathtub in the garden? I can see where the never nude trait comes in handy. You wouldn't want poor Mrs. Crumplebottom to walk by and have a heart attack, not that, that can happen.

Hmm... I wonder if it is possible to give all sims with the Burglar trait the ability to swipe somthing, without the wants to return objects (your a freaking burglar, why would you want to give somthing back?) and ability to steal more in a night. I know nothing about modding, though.

There are already mods like that, which are XML tunings. I believe there's one at MTS.
