How does the game decide who gets to bring the baby to the birthday cake? I select it using the mom who has the highest relationship with the kid, and the mother is holding the kid, and yet the game makes the mom put down the baby and the grandma pick it up to bring it to the cake. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is happening?

I've also experienced elders getting priority in bringing babbys to caek in several households. It's quite annoying for pictures actually, when some other sim than the one you want in the picture simply MUST do it instead.

Well, I figured as much, but if I know what the coding says, then I can manipulate the circumstances to get the picture I want.

Hmmmm... try keeping grandma occupied with something on the other end of the lot? Just a thought... maybe it looks for sims with empty queues, and since mom is holding the baby, her queue isn't technically empty (even though it shouldn't matter - she's holding the damn thing; but that is their special brand of FAIL after all.)

The same happened in my game. I told the baby's dad to bring him to the cake since the mom was at work. The grandma was outside working in the garden, but once I told the dad to bring the baby to the cake, the dad went to get the baby then set it on the kitchen floor and then the grandma came inside and proceeded to take the baby to the cake. I wonder if the game picks the oldest sim on the lot to take the kid to the cake.

It would seem that the oldest female relative, or possibly even the oldest female in the household, is the one in charge of the baby caking.

Yep, it's the oldest female relative who gets chosen for caek duty. The father is the oldest sim in my household, but it's always the mother who caeks the babbys, not the father.

Hrmm I have a male and female sim couple where the Male sim is the oldest in the family by a couple days. Mom dropped baby on the floor so dad could cake the baby.

Hmmm, maybe it's random per household, then.

Is anyone willing to run a test? I'll do it if no one else wants to, but I'm playing my semi-Legacy family now, and I don't really want to switch away from it.

I have a habit of shift-click-age transitioning ALL of my spawn to screenshot, and then exiting w/o saving in order to play them and let them grow up. I'm going to say that it seems to be plain old EAxian sadorandomness. Most recently the male, YA or Adult Maid was the one who grew up the baby.
There were two parents, two aunts, and two elder grandparents available on the lot. The maid was the one chosen for the "honor".

Now, that's just bizarre. Seriously, WTF was EA thinking?

It should always default to the sim who clicks on the birthday cake to get the dialog. Why else would I have that sim active, but because they are available?

I agree. That's how it was in TS2. Why EA decided to change something completely sensible into something completely stupid, I'll never know.
