Careers and how not to change them

I'm constantly getting pop-up messages saying things such as "Your Sim Snoggins has all the right skills to switch careers from Lulzcow Level 3 to Attention Whore Level 5. Would you like to change career?"

If I click on the option box "yes" bugger-all happens.

Is this an epic fail on my part or is EA unaccountably doing it wrong?

Strange.

I never got a problem with that. Click yes, day ends, got the pay for the day, next day start on new career.

Is this one sim and one career type switch? If so, what actual offer is it? I can't say I've seen the Attention Whore or Lulzcow tracks.

This has happened a few times. One was a switch from the business track to politics, the other from military to athletic.

I got it once for a switch from crime to athletic.  After I clicked yes, I had to actually go to the sports arena and join the athletic profession.  It was offered as an opportunity, and it explained in the opportunity tab what I had to do (i.e., go join).

Those are different.  That is actually a Skill opportunity and not a Career opportunity.  The career switch while working does not show a Skill icon (it has no icon, actually, it's like a phone call from a friend).
