Two Sets of Files .... or not?
« on: 2009 June 16, 20:05:34 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Hi all!
My game plays just fine but a few days in, I wanted to play Sims 2 so I uninstalled Sims 3. I saved all my files onto my desktop so when I reinstalled Sims 3, I would still have my games.

Now When I look in my My Documents/Electronic Arts/ folder I have these files:
Custom Music
DC Backup
DC Cache
Downloads
Exports
Installed Worlds
Library
Saved Sims
Saves
Screenshots
The Sims 3
Thumbnails
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
DeviceConfig.log
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
Sims3Logs.xml
userPresets.package

All of them have datesof 6/2-6/5 except for The Sims 3 which is 6/9.

Then when I open the directory of The Sims 3, I have all the same filenames
and directories PLUS SOME DIFFERENCES:
Custom Music 6/5
DC Backup 6/6
DC Cache 6/16
Downloads 6/5
Exports 6/5
Installed Worlds 6/5
Library 6/6
RECORDED VIDEOS (This is different)6/7
Saved Sims 6/5
Saves 6/8
Screenshots 6/7
Thumbnails 6/5
WORLDCACHES THIS IS DIFFERENT 6/5
CASPartCache.package 6/5
compositorCache.package 6/16
DeviceConfig.log 6/16
OPTIONS.INI (THIS IS DIFFERENT) 6/16
scriptCache.package 6/5
simCompositor.package 6/16
userPresets.package 6/7

Is this how it's supposed to be? Where are the downloads supposed to be?

I was looking for the problem that seems to be preventing the Log Lake house from
installing.
It's in my (both) Downloads directory, it appears to install, but it's NOT in the game!

So should I delete some of these files? Which ones?
The ones that are different in the Sims 3 directory?
Can someone whose game works please tell me which files are in The Sims 3 directory?

Thank you for listening and for any help!

Your TS2 directory should be MyDocuments/EA Games/ and not MyDocuments/Electronic Arts/ (which is, instead, the directory for TS3, Life Stories, Castaway, etc.).

I got as far as "I uninstalled Sims 3".  Why not just keep both?

I like to switch back and forth, depending on the playstyle I want.  Unless you have severe hard drive space issues, you might just consider having both installed.  Uninstalling and reinstalling sounds like a hopeless waste of time.

Yes, I know which directory Sims 2 is in.  I am talking about my Sims 3 directory, Electronic Arts.
I am NOT TALKING ABOUT SIMS 2!
Am I supposed to have duplicate files is the question....

I still have Sims 2 installed and it works fine, too.
I am just wondering about the duplicate files and directories I have in my
Electronic Arts  and Electronic Arts/Sims 3 directories.

Can someone whose game works please tell me which files are in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 directory?

Thank you for listening and for any help!

No, I am not talking about Program files.
These are exclusively in My Documents.
The first one is My Documents/Electronic Arts
The second set is in my Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3

Mine is not like that.  I only have "The Sims 3" in "My Documents\Electronic Arts".  Maybe you copied and pasted some files there by accident.  I've done that before.

Not sure why you're uninstalling Sims 3 though.  Sims 3 and Sims 2 coexist just fine.

Thank you! So my directory should read:

My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/ and then all the files?
And I should only have the one directory.
Okay.  I was pretty tired when I reinstalled TS3.

I will try this and see what happens!

Both TS2 and TS3 run well but I was wondering about why I had these duplicate directories.
I grovel at your greatness.
Thanks
