THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Feel free to P&L. I have never used the magic wand because it seems too cheaty for regular use. However, I would like to use it for apartments. The RTFM is a little skimpy on information. How, exactly do I use it? Do I install it on a lot when building? Do I have to move a Sim in to use it?

I had the same questions.

When in Build Mode (I do it before moving anyone in) go to Collections and select Magic Wand Collection. Grab the "wand"box and wave your arrow and the held box all over the place. Delete box. Save.

Thanks. After I posted I realized moving a Sim in would kind of defeat the purpose. I was about to edit my post when I saw the reply. Dur.  Cheesy

You don't really need to wave it around. Just take it out for a second and put it back. It doesn't even have to touch ground.

Doubly, since I thought I had to wave it around the lot.

Well, the RTFM says "wave it around".  I was almost sure one did not have to actually wave it, but I always do anyway.  Makes me feel better.  Like pressing the button that is already pressed on the elevator when you get on.  Positive futile action FTW.

When I first used it, I wondered whether the duration of the waving was directly proportional to the monetary reduction.  I can confirm that it isn't, just in case there is someone else out there wondering the same thing.

Edit - I also enjoy futile button pressing.

You don't really need to wave it around.

Yes you do!  You also have to make "swish-swosh" noises and finsh with a small "whee!".
That's what I do anyway, and it's always worked for me.

My button pressing is never futile, I always push the "ground floor" button last, when I go upstairs with the elevator. It has a purpose: it resets the elevator to default.
Now please tell me I'm not the only one.

Nope, 'fraid not, I leave the lift to go where it wills - or where it's called.  Grin

I do push the walk button at intersections compulsively, even if I've seen someone else do it. I don't, however, like it when someone comes along and pushes it after me. I want to tell them, "it's OK, it's all under control, I have pushed the button".

This is strange.

I killed Don Lothario and the lot became vacant afterwards, could be bought for $15,000.  I wave the wand around and the monetary value of the lot goes UP, to $33,000.  Why did it go up?

The Magic Wand will also correct price bugginess caused by the Ingelogical Stay Things Shrub. Some people package lots that have been bugged by contact with this object, and the Magic Wand will fix it, which will cause the value of the lot to be correctly computed (in your example, it was bugged and not being properly calculated).

If I'm in an elevator and I'm feeling grumpy or annoyed, I'll ride it to the top and press every button as I leave.  Muwaahaahaa.

Some objects appreciate rather than depreciate over time, and using the magic wand makes them go up in price rather than down.

Actually, that's simply not how it works. The reason the lot value went from 15K to 33K is due to the Ingelogical Stayable Bug. Period. There were supposed to be items on the lot, but their costs were not being properly counted due to the bug, and the Magic Wand fixes that bug so that they are.

I understand the fixing of bugged items would be the result in changed lotprice in this instance. Is it true paintings go up in value once the painter dies?

i'm pretty sure that if you magic wand an apartment lot before moving sims in decreases the value of the whole lot permanently, but if you do it after moving sims in it decreases on a renter by renter basis.

When you load just an occupied apartment, it loads the apartment sublot and changes affect the apartment sublot, not the apartment base. So that makes sense. It's the same sort of effect you get when you cheat around to add items outside of the apartment bounds and then load the lot with another family.

I notice that, if you are building a lot, and you toggle night-time, you have to wave the wand to get all the lights to turn on in build mode.  This is one reason to wave the thing around, rather than just set it down and pick it up again.

There is actually no difference that occurs with extended waving vs. quick brandishing. The effects occur the moment you drag the wand over a worldtile, it doesn't matter how much you wave it about. However, the lights have a delayed fade-on effect, so it takes them time to go from their off state to fully illuminating the room, because it takes time for the dark to leave the room. It has to do with the speed of dark.

Are the "particles" carrying the dark called antiphotons, maurons or some other name?
