Miscellaneous hacks by rufio [New 12/24/11: New job hacks and inlaws fix update]
«
on:
2009 March 08, 06:34:46 »
The wiki where all of this is linked is now
on wikidot
. The links now go to my dropbox.
New Hacks
: EqualOpportunity (filed under logic fail) allows you to hire sims in person without a relationship requirement, so that you can hire particular sims that are not friends with the business owner. NoTownieJobs (filed under Miscellany) gives new townies random skills instead of random jobs.
Updated
: InlawsFixNew has been updated to recognize non-blood-related aunts and uncles, now with a shinier, more efficient algorithm.
Family-related hacks
*
ExtendedFamily
: Causes sims to recognize their first cousins once removed, second cousins, great-grandparents, great-grandchildren, great-uncles/aunts, and grand-nieces/nephews as family and removes romantic social interactions for those sims. They don't show up as family in the relationship panel, and still show chemistry, and "talk with relative," "relative gets married," etc. wants are not fulfilled with those sims, but other than that everything works. A second version of this is
ExtendedFamilyPartial
, which causes only great-grandparents, great-grandchildren, grand-nieces/nephews and great-aunts/uncles to be considered family. Install only one version. Installing this hack causes a reset. This hack contains new global BHAVs, and thus may conflict badly with other hacks that contain new global BHAVs. If in doubt, run HCDU. Incompatible with InTeen.
*
InlawsFixMaxis
: Fixes in-law relationships so that they are reciprocal, as they should have been. Sims will treat their spouse's entire extended family as family (and vice versa) including aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. However, if you use hacks to enable polygamy, the family of multiple spouses will not be treated as in-laws. In that case, you should use
InlawsFixNew
(
*Updated*
), which also limits in-law relationships to just parents, children, siblings, and off-related aunts and uncles. In-laws who were in love with each other before becoming in-laws will continue to be able to interact romantically, as normal. Install only one version.
Witch-related hacks
*
AntiGoodWitchIdleAnims
: Good witches no longer pose moronically or wave their wands around when idle. Evil witches' diabolical cackling is unaffected.
*
NoAlignmentReqAndChangeOnNeutralCast
: TripleM made a series of hacks (in Taster's Choice) modifying witch spell constants to prevent alignment change from casting neutral spells, and too allow all spells regardless of alignment and prevent alignment change from casting any spells. Some people wanted a version where alignment is not required to cast any spells, but alignment still changes when casting non-neutral spells. This is that hack. Do not use with any of TripleM's variations.
*
TabulaRasaHack
: The Tabula Rasa spell now also erases all relationships with other sims as well as erasing memories, causing it to have an actual effect on gameplay. Other sims are not affected, except to delete any marriage/engagement/going steady flags that would result in inconsistent states. For some reason, not all sims are removed from the relationship panel, and relationship flags with pets are not deleted, but the relationships are correctly reduced to 0/0, so it shouldn't make much difference. Family ties are not affected - it will simply be as if the sim had never met any of their relatives (or anyone else).
Fixes for Annoyances and Logic Fail
*
BookshelfHack
: If a sim is attempting to interact with a bookshelf, and there are discarded books in the vicinity of either the sim or the bookshelf, it will choose one of the available books rather than getting another one off of the bookshelf. If your last EP was Seasons or (probably) BV, get
BookshelfHackSeasons
instead.
*
*New*
EqualOpportunity
: Sims can now be hired in person for OFB business even if the business owner doesn't have any relationship with the hiree at all.
*
JustGoHome
: Visitors that run out of energy on home lots no longer spawn an annoying modal dialog berating you for inviting them to stay over and not letting them sleep (which appears even when you did not, in fact, invite them to stay over) and lose relationship points with your sim. Instead, they will just leave, with a simple non-intrusive Bye/See you later message that can easily be ignored.
*
LTWNumbersTweaks
: This reduces the number of things sims have to do to achieve certain LTWs. Specifically: 50 1st Dates/50 Dream Dates have been reduced to 30; 20 Pet BFs/Raise 20 Puppies/Kittens have been reduced to 10; Get 6 Grandchildren/Marry off 6 Children have been reduced to 4; Eat 200 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches has been reduced to 100. Sims who have already rolled these LTWs will be unaffected; cycle their LTW with the Lot Debugger until the correct one comes up. This hack conflicts with uni_ltws_sns. If you use uni_ltw_sns, get
LTWNumbersTweaks+UniLTWs
instead, and make sure that uni_ltws_sns loads first.
*
NoApartmentCarWantSpam
: Sims who live in apartment complexes that have driveways in the common area (but not as a part of the actual apartment) will no longer constantly roll the want to buy to buy a car.
*
NoAutoFishing
: Prevents sims from autonomously fishing, so you can place decorative ponds on apartments and community lots without flooding the economy with free fish.
*
NoAutoSmustle
: A hack that prevents autonomous smustling from occurring, ever, regardless of Fun level or anything else.
*
NoCommunityJumpRope
: Jumping rope is no longer allowed on community lots, as it is a stupid, anti-social activity whose only benefit is to fulfill wants and gain body skill before yoga is available. No longer will there be 10 business customers at a time choosing to jump rope instead of buying your overpriced doodads.
*
NoLTAPermaplat
: Sims will no longer go permaplat just due to maximizing LTA points. Sims that have gone permaplat due to maximizing LTA points can have their permaplat bit unset via the lot debugger, and it will actually
stay
unset rather than reverting back later because EA decided that it was necessary to check for LTA permaplat status
every single hour
. Sims will continue to gain LTA points and perk points normally.
*
NoMotiveRefreshOnArrive
: Sims will no longer have all their motives refreshed just because they drove to a community lot.
*
NoStealFromFriends
: Sims who steal newspapers just because they are mean will no longer steal newspapers or lawn ornaments if everyone most people in the house are either friends or a family members on good terms. If you have my ExtendedFamily hack installed, this will include whatever extended family is recognized by that hack. Furious sims will continue to steal newspapers as normal.
*
ServosDontSleep
: Servos do not sleep at night - they recharge themselves for about 2-3 hours every 2-3 days during the daytime. Why then do they yell at you for waking them up when your insomniacal sims call them at 3 AM? Because EAxis fails at logic, that's why. Now servos can be called at all hours of the day or night. However, they will still go home if you invite them over between 2 AM and 7 AM - I could not figure out how to change that without creating conflicts with TwoJeffs' Visitor Controller. If you don't have AL, get
ServosDontSleepPreAL
instead.
*
ShowerFixes
: Allows servos to clean and repair showers, and changes communal showers to really be communal, even when being used by children and teens. Probably conflicts with hacks that affect privacy. For just the servo changes, get
ServosCleanRepairShower
instead.
*
VisitorsCanShower
: Visiting sims now feel free to use your sims' showers and baths. Useful for home businesses, where stinky sims generally do not go home as a result of being stinky, leading to constant exclamations of "Ew, you stink!" from other patrons. Also useful if a tree gets hit by lightening during a party and everyone suddenly has to go tank their hygiene by running outside to gawk at it.
Miscellany
*
AlienPregnancyForFemales
: Yes, I know that Smonoff did this one already. However, Smonoff's hack lacks one feature - alien abduction via dance sphere. With this hack, female sims will become pregnant with alien babies after getting abducted using the dance sphere as well as the telescope. Don't use this in addition to Smonoff's hack; take that hack out and use this one instead. Apparently the original hack had some kind of InTeen support; this does not.
*
LotFullofPets
: Ancienthighway, who made
the AL-compatible lotfullofsims hack
, missed something; while it is possible to command pets to breed in an overfull household, the BHAV that determines how many pets will be born still returns 0 if there are too many pets/sims + pets already. With this hack, that BHAV will simply return a number from 1 to 4 (weights unchanged from original), regardless of how many sims/pets there are on the lot. It is not a replacement for ancienthighway's hack; use it in addition to that hack. I do not know if this is needed if you use a pre-AL version of lotfullofsims.
*
*New*
NoTownieJobs
: Newly-generated townies will not be automatically given jobs; instead, they will have a random collection of low-level skills. Sims that are towniefied while unemployed and townies that have been dejobbified will not be remployed. This also means that newly-created townies will not have any friends or acquaintances, but that is easily fixed. Garden club townies don't get any skills at all, I think because their unemployed status is initialized elsewhere.
*
RocksFallEveryoneDies
: If you really hate your sims and want to see them die horrible deaths, you can now rain (or, as EA spells it, "reign") firey apocalypse down on them via the weather control device. This isn't the same as what happens when the weather control device backfires; the lot will actually be reduced to a smoldering ruin. Intended for lulz, not serious gameplay, but you could probably work it into a story if you really wanted to.
*
SellableNovels
: Novels written in Freetime and Apartment Life can now be sold in OFB businesses and placed on OFB shelves. Novels cost a little more than books sold from shelves, and restock just like buy mode items (money disappears from the family funds, new novel magically appears on the shelf). Although the novels appear as "Book Title" when out of stock, and restock standing upright on their bindings, they appear to be exact clones and work as expected.

I've wanted something like your bookshelf hack for a long time. Stupid lazy Sims throw their books all over the house and never pick them up again, lol.

Yes; I mostly had this problem in dorms, though. There would be entire rooms carpeted in research books. My sims never had time to do anything but Macro->Clean.

NoInappropriateLoveWants*: Sims will no longer roll wants to fall in love again if they are engaged or married to the only person they love, thus causing the game to think that they don't love anyone.
I've never seen this happen, and I crack down on stuff like this real fast. What you're PROBABLY seeing is that they aren't actually in love, for whatever reason (past issues/noinstantlove/arranged marriage hacks), but you cannot see this because the engaged/married ring icon occupies the slot where the love heart icon would be, hogging the slot so you can't tell whether the love thing is there or not.

Yes, exactly my problem. I had one dorm that had a bookshelf in the common area on the third floor. My playable lived on the first floor and had a bookshelf in his locked dorm room so he never went up to the third floor, which was littered with books, lol. In dorms where I had bookshelves on a floor I was actually using, I started just deleting the books as they collected on every table and floor tile. It was kind of a pain, but I didn't want to waste my Sim's time picking up after a bunch of dormies.

Well, it has happened to me twice, and I do not actually let my sims get engaged until they fall in love, and they did not fall out of it. Does the Relationship primitive return the love flag when called with "UI flags" even when the sims are married/engaged? Is this maybe something you fixed in wfsanity that is not fixed for me because I don't use wfsanity?

Somehow, in my game, visiting sims already seem to feel quite free to use the shower or bath on my residential lots. Is this not usually what happens?

Perhaps they're just very neat. The visitors that tend to bathe in my game seem to do so at house parties. I noticed this at first when one sim teen had a want for a "first kiss" and the most likely suspect was inexplicably having a bath.

Well, I don't have many parties (really only started throwing them at Greek houses after I made that hack, come to think of it) so the party guests may not count as visitors for the purposes of the shower/bath. I do know that home business customers do
not
autonomously bathe without it, though.

Possibly, and if you don't, you SHOULD, because wfsanity corrects a bunch of annoying EAxis bugs and glitches.

Maybe I'll put it back in again.
Speaking of wants and suchlike, is it possible to make a mod that causes non-Knowledge sims to want to become supernatural creatures? I see the CT - Test - Become Werewolf, etc. BHAVs, but they don't seem to distinguish between wants and fears.

Now that is a hack I would LOVE to have! I hate setting up my sims with all the attractions etc for supernatural love, only to have them constantly want their spouse to be cured! Or to be constantly afraid of becoming one themselves! How does this make any sense? Why only knowledge sims? Wouldn't pleasure sims love to be vampires? Eaxis, you make no sense!

I liked your idea for the bookshelf hack, so they use discarded books first, but I'm getting a "hit break point primitive' error when my sims attempt to study using the Education bookshelf/books from Seasons, for Logic/Body/Charisma/creativity. It works fine for the normal cook/mech/clean tho on the Education bookshelf. I'll attach an error log in case it might help.

Ahh, I never use the Education bookshelf, and had no idea that you could even study other skills from it. Thanks for the log, I'll check it out when I'm in the right OS. The Education bookshelf has special books, doesn't it? Does this happen when there are regular books discarded nearby, special Education bookshelf books discarded nearby, or no books discarded nearby? Or in all cases?

Yes, special books as in those loose Golden books tie in with the skilling attributes of the bookcase itself, tho if you stick a loose book in inv, take it to a lot without the bookcase, it's just a regular book (from what I've read, I've yet to actually try it).
If there's a loose Education book, they'll attempt to pick it up, error out and the book disappears. They error on both the bookcase (if no loose Ed books) and the loose Ed books.
Regular books work fine, tho I'll test to see what they do if both kinds of books are loose. They might just go to the nearest one, but I'll let you know.
Edit with Results of Test:
Okay, even with both kinds of loose books on the floor, they error out while trying to study Logic/Body/Charisma/Creativity (the mod directed my test subject to the loose Ed book, even tho the reg book was closer). If i direct them to study the other 3 skills, it works fine no matter which bookcase/loose book i direct them to. (And this i didn't know, if there was only a loose regular book, they can still study the 4 skills using it, as long as the Ed bookcase was on the lot-or at least, with your mod, they attempt to pick it up).

Ok, I have been unable to reproduce this error, but I got different results than you when I tested, so maybe I am doing something wrong.
All books that my sim takes off the bookshelf have normal covers, and behave exactly the same way as normal books (you can only study the three original skills from them). This sim did not actually reach the top of the Education career - I simply made the bookshelf available to them via the Sim Blender. Would that affect it? Studying from books taken off of the bookshelf is still extremely fast, though.
When sims try to study one of the four additional skills from the Education bookshelf, and there is a book on the floor, they will pick up the book, which will then disappear - no error, no reset, and yes, I do have debug mode turned on. I don't know why this happens, and it appears to be buried in a primitive somewhere, so I have "fixed" it by making sims always go to the shelf if they are studying one of those skills, rather than looking for a book. Studying those skills using a book from the shelf works fine for me.
I did manage to get an error, which happens when sims go to study one of the four skills from the Education bookshelf and the bookshelf is moved into inventory before the sim sits down to study. However, this is a completely different error from a completely different BHAV, which happens even when my hack is not installed, and I really doubt it's ever going to happen to someone who's not trying to get neat sims to put books on the floor for the purposes of testing this hack.

Sorry you couldn't replicate my error. Just to be sure it wasn't a conflict with something else i might have, i removed the entire TheSims2 folder, let the game create a new one. Stuck in the 'testing cheat' startup config (that's the only thing i have in it), got your latest updated bookshelf hack, pes's batbox/macro/stuck-object remover, and drafted the Burb's into being my "volunteer's".
Gave them career's/rewards via shift-click on the newspaper, and John still error's out while attempting to study any of those 4 skills on the Education Bookcase (which shows the Golden/special cover in my game). It didn't matter if i had a normal bookcase/loose books or not. Errored while getting a Ed book (for those 4 skills only - other 3 are fine) errored if trying to get a loose Ed book - which disappears. Thanks for trying tho.
Attaching the latest error log from John Burb and clean NH.
I only have the EP's up to Seasons (no Pets) plus FFS SP. My base game is the Holiday Edition (which shouldn't make a difference, tho BlueSoup and I did find at least 1 Base Game object that i don't have, so maybe there are other differences).
One last edit - i phailed miserably trying to get a pic to show, so I'll just put a link to it instead, showing the Golden book.

Well, I am running Apartment Life, so maybe something changed between that and Seasons; I'll check. Basically, the sim's "Interaction Index" (which is what the game is using to figure out what subject they're studying) is something other than what is expected.
Edit: Yes, it did change, probably because of the FT Parenting skill (and whatever else it added). I'll upload a Seasons version, but you'll have to test it for me.

Well, it sorta works for me. John no longer error's when getting a Golden book out to skill those 4.
He'll go and get a loose Golden Book for the regular 3, but he now goes and gets a different book if i direct him to study the 4 with a loose one on the floor. (If that makes any sense?)

Yes, that is by design, as trying to study the four skills from a loose book results in book disappearance for some mysterious reason. Or at least it does in my game. Just for fun, try
this one
and see if John can study the four skills from a loose book by clicking on the bookshelf.

John Burb actually did a little dance after he realized that he went to a loose Ed. Book to study one of those 4 skills, instead of getting yet another book out.
(In other words, it now works perfectly).
And I'm having the time of my life (seriously) testing this for you.

Interesting - something must have been broken about the golden books between Seasons and AL - I'll see if I can find it. If there is a
non-
golden book (but no golden one) lying around can he study out of that with the latest version?
I'm glad you're having fun.

Okay, like wow, this is gonna sound wierd, but let me report what happens.
I have John pull out a Golden book, set it down. Put both Golden book/Ed bookcase in inv.
I have John pull out a reg book and set it down.
Put back the Golden book and Ed. Bookcase. Now have both types of loose books / bookcases
Direct John to study the reg 3 via normal bookcase, no problem, he goes and gets the loose regular book.
Direct John to study the reg 3 via Ed. bookcase, he goes and gets the loose regular book.
Direct John to study the 4 via the Ed. bookcase, with both books available, he fetches the loose Golden book, and it disappears.
Only loose book now available is the reg book, direct John to study the 3 via the Ed. bookcase or reg bookcase, and everything is okay.
Only loose book is reg book, direct John to study the 4 via Ed. bookcase, and it too disappears.
Once all loose books are gone, John is able to get a new Golden book, and only uses it no matter which bookcase i click on.
Edit: (BTW, John got dizzy what with all the fetch/put down, turn around, fetch, etc)
