How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to

All the new social groups have uniforms. There are several different ones, but they are all of a similar theme.

You wait until they anonymously decide to do one of those "Greet..." socials.
That's the only way to figure it out in game, other than some trial and error with "Greet..." socials to find out which the NPC prefers.
Their clothing can be an indicator, but it'll probably take some observing to figure out which clothing styles fit with which social.
To be honest, there doesn't seem to be much of a gain if you focus on sims you think are in one social group versus socializing with all sims in all groups.  You still get approximately the same amount of "bonuses" or whathaveyou.

Or, of course, you could use SimPe.

Or you may use Paladin's visual teleporter, without actually teleporting anyone: choose one of the groups and have a look at their portraits.

Import your hood into SimSheet before starting the game. and then save it in SimSheet format.
It's lighter to run than SimPE, and you can also run it at the same time as running the game without the file-locking troubles.

She wasn't asking to make changes...
Besides, it is the "best" way, and probably the most reliable way to find it out.  Otherwise, you could be like me and just not care.
I can't even really find an advantage to socializing with only one society group, but that might just be because it's so cumbersome to single out individuals based on their alliance to a group.

Check Familys in Simpe, they are grouped by family.
With teleporter cat from Inge only click and LOOK, you dont must change.

I'm assuming you mean what comes up under "Household" in the SimBrowser, Heli.  In that case, it just tells you which sims are in the same Household.  It doesn't say anything about which specific social group they're in.  Is this all I'm going to find or did I misinterpret?

There's a list of 'special' family ID's in the Trogdor forum.

Inge's cat uses those labels I think.
SimSheet does.  Marhis posted a better list in that thread in the peasantry.
In SimPE you would have to look them up yourself.

Huh.  My bad, I was completely misinterpreting the word "Family".  Apparently, it didn't occur to me that "Family" meant just that.
I've got it now.
I was expecting to find a family name, not those instance numbers for the families.
I still think it's too much effort to figure it out, but I'm glad I actually know how to do so now.

NPCs' (Service and not) families are usually created in new neighborhood with the last name of the first sim spawned in that family, or blank last name.
I usually rename all of them in SimPE, according to their family ID, so I don't have to re-read my notes every time. Just don't let one of your NPC families going empty, or it will be renamed again with the last name of the next sim which will be spawn by the game, and you'll have to re-edit.

Wouldn't it be easier just to rename them Socialites, Techies, Jocks, Bohemians, and Gearheads?
Well, easier for the casual game-player who isn't really planning to do much with SimPe besides spy on genetics, relations, and the like.


EDIT: It seems like many of the sims don't look remotely like they belong within their social groups.  How frustrating.

Suddenly I have come up an idea. I am not sure if I should open a new thread, but anyway I just post it here.

It has been so disturbing that local people in Far East looks too Western... I want to make them more Eastern by having blacker hair, slightly darker or a bit yellower skin and smaller eyes so that those people in Kimono can look more Japanese. Just wondering how much time it gonna take me if I am to edit those locals one by one.

Shouldn't be too much worse than creating custom townies.  This is not a brand new idea and other MATY folk have created custom vacation locals.  Links to a few threads here on this (there are others) which might be helpful:

Looking at that last one- now that Inge's teleporter is updated for BV (it wasn't when that was written,) do you still have to go through so many steps to make vacationies or can you just use the teleporter to send them straight to the vacation 'hood?

Ups, sorry again, I must be exceptionally idiot in these days (I mean, more than usual)  . You're right, I changed their household name, not the last name.

Tried to answer my own question; checking SimPE revealed that they don't have the "learned [vacation action]" memories if you use Inge's teleporter alone.
