Really Weird Goings-On in my New Neighbourhood (Now With PICTURES!)
« on: 2005 November 06, 01:38:21 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I started a new custom neighbourhood yesterday and really weird things are going on.  After creating it, I used the delete all characters cheat, then made several new families.  Once I had four families in situ, I set about creating new townies.  The game made the usual collection (mainly decent ones, to my surprise), then I went into SimPE to tidy-up their aspirations and so on.  This is when I saw the strangeness.

None of these relationships are showing in the Family Ties section of SimPE, neither are they in the actual relationship panels, they are only showing in the SimPool (instead of being greyed-out, they are open).  First of all, a toddler in one of the new families, although showing his correct parents in his family tree, also appears to be the child of one of the townies and has a high relationship with her, even though he's never met her.  Similarly, his mother is apparently this townie's sister and also the aunt of her own child.  That's all I noticed after the first day.

Today, I created Downtownies.  For some reason, I only got adults and teens, no elders or chidlren.  These included four female adult clones and several teen clones (same face, same hair, same clothes, same Sim).  There are several relationships between these downtownies and my Sims.  The same toddler who had a new mother yesterday has another new mother now and several of my Sims are siblings to the downtownies.  One male Sim in my latest family (the family where I created the downtownies) is the child of a Matchmaker and a postman, sibling to a postgirl, and married to a male driver.   The male driver also has relationships with the Therapist, the Hula Girl and the Grim Reaper.  As he's apparently married to my Sim, perhaps he would bring them along if he invited him on an outing.  Even better, his 'sister' the postgirl (who doesn't appear to share either of his parents), who's almost friends with Grimmy.  Grimmy has several acquaintances among the working NPC's, including Mrs Crumplebottom.  He's almost friends with her as well.  Oddly enough, he doesn't know the Hula Girl at all.  It's not just NPC's, either.  Grimmy is also very well-acquainted with one of the Downtownie teen males and one of the adult females, plus one of the normal townie adult females.

I have no idea whether this is meant to happen or not, but I suspect the latter.  I know the game creates random relationships amongst the townies so they have people to bring on outings, but I didn't think it dipped into the Default pool as well, let alone Sims created in-game.  I am going to leave my Sim married to the driver, sibling to the postgirl and son of the postboy/Matchmaker (wonder if she seduced him with one of her potions) while I see if any of them invite him out and bring Grimmy along.  If they do, I will be sure to video the proceedings.  And here I was thinking I was creating a brand-new neighbourhood free from all the strange carryings-on in Pleasantview.

Talking of Pleasantview, I'm just checking through my Grim Reaper file in there now and it appears he does have relationships there, namely with all the Goth ghosts and also Jeff & Diane Pleasant.  I suppose that's understandable, they do come from the same neck of the woods (so to speak).  He's clearly becoming more sociable now if he's starting to communicate with the living.

It's not finished yet.  I am currently in SimPE and I've just discovered that a Downtownie teen male is the son of an adult male Sim I have just made and installed in a house.  They've never even met!  His mother is apparently another Downtownie teen - my Sim doesn't know her, either.  This teen is also married to a townie female adult and is himself the parent of a female townie teen, although his wife doesn't seem to know her so goodness knows who her mother is.  All this presumably means that my newly-created Sim, who hasn't even had his first kiss yet, is already a grandfather.

Of course, this marriage didn't show-up in the family ties, but the relationship panel showed them as being in love, 95/85 and spouses.  If I find another like that I will leave it in and get them together to see what happens.  In fact, I may go back and re-install the relationship and do it anyway.  I don't know if they would recognise the 'relationship' if it isn't in family ties, but it might be interesting to find out (even more so if I take the Inteenimator out).

Incidentally, this townie teen is also well-in with Miss CrumpleBottom.  Maybe he could get away with stripping-off in front of her and not getting beaten about the head with her handbag.  Perhaps I might just make her his mother instead ...

I'm laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes! Please keep us updated! Interesting to see who Jericho/Justin's family turns out to be once you get him into the game...Watch his mom turn out to be someone totally off the wall. Say...Bella, perhaps?

I'm still in SimPE and now I've discovered that one of my new female adult Sims is the sister of a paperboy.  This paperboy also has a 95/85 relationship with a teen boy in another of my families.  It says they're family but doesn't define the relationship.  Well, I know what it is, because it's used 95/85 before.  They're MARRIED.  The game (or SimPE) is just too shy to say so, with 'em both being male an' all.  But I am grateful for small mercies here, at least they're both teens and I do have the Inteenimator installed so they can woo-hoo if they want to, as long as my Sim gets a free newspaper out of it.

And this paper-boy is well-in with Mrs Crumplebottom, too.  I am beginning to think she is behind all this.  She's up to something, I can tell.

Ahhh, the old coot.

Well, my brand-new male Sim apparently knows her now as well.  She seems to like him quite a lot too, almost to friends level.  He doesn't seem quite so keen on her, though.  This really is the weirdest thing - this guy hasn't even left his lot.  In fact, I haven't even played him, I just put him on an empty lot so I could create some downtown elders.  How the dickens he managed to meet Mrs Crumplebottom is anyone's guess.

And all this is before I've even sent anyone to Uni.  I dread to think what is going to happen when the drama professors are created ... I have this vision of them pinning Mrs Crumplebottom across the bar and seeing how far down her throat they can get their tongues ... (can I say that sort of thing on here???).

Well, all I can say is: It's about time Ancient. I had no idea how much I missed your 'Tales from Pleasantville'. You absolutely have the most fascinating (and incredibly funny) things going on.

I haven't checked SimPe yet, but some of my downtownies have odd relatinships (as in related to). I send a Pleasantville teen to college, and he shows up with people as relatives that seem impossible. Not to your extent though; none of my CAS or inborn sims have managed to be as amusing as yours.

Keep on posting, it is better than anything that the TV can come up with in the comic relief department Cheesy

The only thing I have to say to this (apart from *lol* Grin) is - are you sure that it's the game making these strange relationships, and not a bug in SimPE? Are you still testing out strange new beta versions of SimPE?

But, um, yeah - assuming these relationships really are turning up in the game - TAKE MANY PHOTOS!

No, the relationships aren't showing-up in the game, just in SimPE and TS2 Enhancer.  They're in the "Sim Pool" in SimPE, not the actual relationship panel, but they're not greyed-out.  They don't show in the Family Trees, though.  And I'm not using the Beta version of SimPE, I'm using the last-but-one main download.  I do have the Beta version installed, but I haven't used it since making this neighbourhood.

Anyway, it's getting worse.  My original guy now has some new relationships to add to those with his mother/sister/husband.  He is now the grandfather of the toddler I mentioned earlier - he's also the grandfather of the toddler's mother, which makes her the sister of her own child.  He is also the father of the teenage boy mentioned in an earlier post, so this teenage boy must be the father of the toddler and his mother (clever kid, managing to father someone older than he is).  I am not sure I like the way this neighbourhood is going.

Also, even though he apparently doesn't know her, Mrs CrumpleBottom has now appeared in his list of known "Relations" (she was in the SimPool before).  Presumably this is because she was present on the downtown lot he went to earlier today.  I am convinced she is at the bottom of all this.  She is actually getting memories of meeting people and they are getting memories of meeting her, which I'm sure didn't happen before.

you can right click the pictures and remove relations  like I did when my sims started having people show up in their relations section that they never even knew. let alone had a relation ship with. I think its the games way of giving the sim a contact list or something . I prefer the old fashioned way letting my sim meet the neighborhood welcome group and making contacts downtown and at work that way I know for certain who my sim  knows and or is related to

No option to remove the relation, only add it.  They're not in the "Relations" panel, they're in the SimPool, which is for people they've never met.  That's what's so odd about it.  They only time I saw this before was with Bella & Mortimer, who have this 'hidden' relationship in the SimPool.

even in the sim pool you should be able to right clik and remove relations  I did. thus creating two seperate pool  because I also right clicked  relations and added them  and  put the correct  relation ship in  that  separated the sim pool from the relative s instantly in my custom neighborhood. it was tedious though as one sim had everyone except the grim reaper in his panel of known sims   once I right clicked and removed the relationship it started a sim pool for him . I then went to the first actual relative I could find and right clicked add relationship and then set the  fact that that particular sim  I right clicked was his mother and two pools were born sim and relations . I still had to go down the vast "relative" pool and remove all those who were not related though

I appologize if this is even the slightest bit off topic. I thought it fit in well with the creating a new neighborhood.

Recently I made a new neighborhood. However, I don't like it. I went about creating it the wrong way, so sometime today I'm going to make a new one. However, in your post you said you deleted all characters. I know that's possible with the DeleteAllCharacters cheat. But later you said you "created Townies" and "created Downtownies" how is this done? Is there another cheat that spawns new townies?

or you can get it at *cough-VS-cough*. I don't have the link to there, for some reason I get stuck/timed out every time I try to get to one of the forums.

Ancient Sim, I think I read that the version of SimPE before last - which is what I think you said you're using - has bugs and may fubar your sims relationships. I've got the latest - Simpe 0.50 Alpha - and I havn't noticed any relationship anomalies. If you're starting a new n'hood it might be safer to upgrade.
