THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I would love to put a bunch of the stuff in my current life into storage, followed by a tragic fire at the storage facility.  I might be able to move in my basement again.

Emma-

Just ask yourself three questions while cleaning:

1) Do I use this?
2) Will I use it?
3) REAALLY? You had for this long without using it...

I helped all my friends pack for college.

I do try Jel, but it is really hard to get rid of junk when each owner is saying '...but mum, I NEED that' to every single thing they own Roll Eyes On a plus note, I have no junk left. Got rid of all mine at Christmas (no, I didn't give it as gifts...) Wink

That's when you have to be firm, Emma. Raise an eyebrow and stare. Eventually, they'll give in. With kids, you can point out that you can give it some kid that WILL use and enjoy. Or conversely, if they get rid of this piece of junk NOW, it gives them more room for things they'll actually play with later.

I've adopted the Alton Brown method for determining if I really need to keep something (other than important papers of course).  He originally applied it to kitchen gadgets, but it works for anything.  If you're not sure about something, stick a piece of masking tape on it and put today's date on it.  Then stick it in a 'six-month' drawer/closet/whatever.  If you don't take it out and use it within 6 months from the date on the tape, you probably don't need to keep it. Or you can try the e-Bay method: If you can get almost as much as you paid for it, SELL!

Yes, the eBay sell method is very popular here, too.  Unfortunately, the wife is also a big fan of its corollary, the eBay buy method. Tongue
