Seriously, and I will never understand this- who in their right mind would give their little girl a name like MacKenzie, or Madison? I realize they are trendy, but it makes me want to KILL. Heck, even Maude or Bertha or "Flo" would be better, even though people think those names are dumb now.

Srsly? Why not just beat up your kid at home and save the kids at school the trouble.

No, chavs wouldn't use Flo.  She's the missus of Andy Capp.  Chavs are desperate to be different from their (great)grandparents, as you can tell by the fact that they wear burberry baseball caps, instead of headwear like Andy's.

Lexus, yes.

Mercedes, on the other hand, was the name of Karl Benz's daughter. He named the car after her. Mercedes was a girl's name long before it was a car. That's not to say that most people don't think of the car first now.

See now, I like McKenzie, I'd probably never name my child that, but I like it as a name. As for Madison, are they trying to ensure that their child will grow to be a stripper?

I think you should go in the opposite direction and use stupid rich people names like Gadge, Strobe, Honor or Truly.

I wish more people would use baby name books, no mater their social class.

From doing the default names project, I learned that a lot of baby name books (and websites) are really not to be trusted. Especially when it comes to Native American names, for some reason. It's not a bad way to find a name, but if you want to know the meaning, you really have to make sure it is a reliable source.

You don't need new names, you just need new ways to spell them.

For example:
Briana, Breanna, Breianna, Brianna, Breeana

Brittany, Brittini, Britanee, Brytanni

Consider naming all the girls in one family the same name, only spelled differently. See how many generations you can do this for before you run out of possible spellings.

I always thought Jordan was a pretty straightforward boy's name. The idea of giving it to a girl just makes me insane, although not nearly as much as the practice of turning vaguely masculine-sounding last names into female first names. Seriously. It makes me want to smack people.
