This is what JM's message on VS now says where the link to this site used to be in the Links forum.  What the heck does that mean?  Is this something Rentech did?  I remember seeing the correct URL there before, and there isn't an Edit date on the post.  The other posts in the thread are still there as if nothing was amiss.  Of course Rentech shut the thread down because someone asked a question and she said this forum wasn't for "support questions."

My Guess would be that she doesnt want any of the membership of varioussimmers to find MATY which is an exercise in futility as a quick search of MTS2 will give you a link to here.when nightlife first came out Daysies I believe posted a link to here regarding hacks that work and hacks she wasnt sure about from El Presidente .  again just being a wall flower at varioussimmers myself I can only guess at the motives behind that

Damned if I know. This is obviously some cheap attempt to vilify me by claiming that *I*, the linked site, somehow am "blocking" something. Nevermind that this in no way enables me to actually affect anything on Rentech.com, beyond maybe blowing it up in a big fiery ball visible from space, and that Rentech has cleverly modified the post without an edited-by, no doubt to insert some pointless comment about buttocks at some point.

Still, it amuses me that Rentech hates me so. Maybe something really is wrong with her buttocks?

Maybe so, since she has an obsession with buttocks.  Then she claims it is impossible for her to directly edit posts without there being an edited-by notice.  Obviously she lied.

I've noted this in other threads here, but she's done this on a site wide level. Even in private messages. Try and send yourself a PM with http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com in it and it will come back like that. I have an old PM sitting in my box where someone was telling me about this place that has that junk in it instead of the proper link. I don't think she edited any individual posts, I think she did something so that the entire site blocks any mention of the domain name here retroactively on all messages both public and private.

I have to admit, while I've been on other sites that prohibited posting of links to certain places (TSR immediately comes to mind  ) I've never until now seen some place that even does this to your private messages. That's a level of big brother-ness that just disturbs me.

I just saw the same thing on Dizzy2's forum in the thread for his random chance card hack.  He referred to what I assume was JM's thread here about how chance cards work.  It was replaced by the link above with a topic number after it.  It is underlined like a link, and I have an extension in Firefox that displays a small icon next to links to show what kind they are.  This one shows that it will open in a new window, but clicking on it doesn't do anything of course.  I think it's just childish.  This community is supposed to be about sharing information and helping each other.  Blocking links from people is just childish and only hurts the users, not the person against whom you have a personal vendetta.  You're right, it does feel like Big Brother is looking over your shoulder over there when you can't even type what you want in a PM.

Anything is possible with the right board software and mods to go with it.  I don't have a dog in this fight (being blissfully late to the drama), but as a long time messsage boarder (and power admin), I'll just say that I'm uber picky about where I hang out.  The success of a board is dependent on the morality of the admin behind the controls.

Helped run a little board with tight membership and heavy google traffic.  Transparent to the membership (meaning we made sure they knew about it), we set up all links to go through our affiliate programs. If you linked to Amazon in a post, the board software automatically converted the amazon link to include the affiliate ID. 

The notion that an admin can't mod a post without an "edited by" is bull hockey.  You don't do it because it violates message board ethics, but decent board software and a billion available mods let you physically do anything you want to.

This is one of the best boards I've ever hung on, because nobody gets in your shit.

[/quote]I dont have a dog in this fight either but I have moderated on other boards and had my own message board before. and  a Mod can edit posts with out the edited  by.... your right about that. during the Scott Peterson trial.a friend and I started a private message board  ie  seperate from AOL's. and we had traffic through there constantly  and links galore. I can only remember one time we ever stopped a link and it happened after a member complained that the link was to a porno site after checking the complaint we dicovered the link was indeed a link to a porno site. we blocked the link pronto. as far as PM's were concerned we  never ever interfered with the content of those or even looked at the content it's not ethical , whatever people were pm'ing each other about was their business. I agree this is a great board people here let you say what you want

S' easy. I'm running the same forum software as Rennie is, and I banned the words "the" and "and" using the censor settings a few weeks ago. It affects every instance of your censored word, past and present, both on the main forum and via PM. You can even substitute your chosen censored word with another, more suitable word of your choice, perhaps like, ooh I dunno... maybe substitute "http://link blocked by linked site/" for every instance of "http://moreawesomethanyou.com/".

Additionally, it's perfectly possible to not add the "edited by" line. There's a checkbox to tick when you edit a post. I mean, duh.


I have to say, I didn't really mind Rennie in times past. I remember the squabble over that avatar of two sims making out or some such nonsense, and I agreed with Rennie at the time that it's up to the admins what's acceptable for posting on their website and what isn't. It all seemed very reasonable at the time. Now, though, it's just become bizarre beyond words. Really goddamn weird.

one would think so but in my honest opinion this behavior indicates a  person who still has childish Vendetta's going I would think any person with an ounce of sense  would realize that such childish behavior in the end only hurts themselves. case in point VS has 632 registered members MATY has close to 1500.  I went over there yesterday to get a specific item of Carrignon's and the blurb at the bottom said only 6 members were actively perusing the site and 150 guests. came back over here  the who's active in the last 15 minutes was showing three lines of member names and  200 guests

This is not due to any policy on this site - as you can tell from lokoinga round we allow links all over the place but simply to accomodate his policy about what links can be used when linking to his site. I am not sure if this is his policy for every other site or just another way to have something to yell about here but I appreciate you listing those hacks of his that seem to work so people have a better idea.

Well the actual statement makes sense inasmuch as I can understand what she's saying (for once).  However I still find the posture unreasonable because she does not have to make herself responsible for ensuring no one gets confused.  She can let her users explain it to each other - those who post a link can answer any questions they might be asked about it how they see best.   For instance if Dizzy2 posts a link to MATY on his forums, then it is *supposed* to be up to him to support questions about it, not her.   She explains quite clearly that apart from some site-wide obscenity rules (which don't have to be obeyed by the admins or mods) anything else is entirely up to the owners of the different sections.

Also I smell a rat in the timing.  Pescado's had that joke and whatever link-posting policy he's got for months.  Funny the reaction is just happening at VS now.
