I read somewhere that the downtown lots are empty, awkwardly 2-3 sims.
Why this doesn't happen to me? Always when I manage a group and go to some lot - 10-15 sims come together with my group, and I can't "breeze"! I go to another lot - the same happens again! And the d...n lots are small, not enough space to move among so many sims.
Do I have to delete more townies? It's very annoying!

I don't know how it works because the original game set my default number of visiting Sims to 2, which I changed to 8 in the cheat file. When I installed NL, it changed my cheat file from 8 to 6, although I've put it back to 8. Nevertheless, I always get 10-12 townies visiting downtown lots and still get that amount even if my Sims are on outings of 7-8 people. Then there are all the working NPC's on top. Seems a bit stupid that it sets a limit at all really, if it's happy for me to have 25+ Sims on a lot with my 'unsupported' video card.

When I installed NL my max # of sims allowed went down to 4. The downtown lots didn't have many people. When I added the cheat to my startup file and changed it to 8 now I start getting a whole lot of sims downtown. You could try doing the cheat code intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 4 before going downtown and see if that makes a difference.

I have an option to create a group of 8 sims going downtown, but I always limit the group to 3 or 4 sims. I am talking about the invasion of the townies in the small lots of downtown, which prevent my sims to fulfill all their wishes, as dining, bowling, etc. When I invite the group at home, they are far more happy... .

Do you know how many Sims you can have on a communitly lot? You could use the cheat "intprop maxnumofvisitingsims" to lower it down instead of up to see if it will help.
I personally have it set by the game to 2. When I go on regular neighborhood community lots and University lots I don't have more than 2 unless I use the cheat mention above. But when I go on downtown lots, I always have 4 or 5 townies + the NPC (bartender, dj, etc). I don't know how the game set this is up now but definitely something is wrong in the way the game calculates it.
When I go on downtown lots I put a maxnumofvisitingsims at 4. When I go on other community lots I put it at 8.

Well that's what I am trying to say, that property not only effects how many sims you can invite over or form a group with, it effects how many will show up on community lots. When I had it set at 4 (by Nightlife by default) I got far less townies on the downtown lots then when I put the cheat in and set it to 8.

Is anyone here sure if the maxnumofvisitingsims controls the Downtown lots? I've never been able to see where it does. NL set my max down from 4 to 2 on community lots, but with a default neighborhood I'd have anywhere from 8 sims on up in Downtown lots. It seemed like when I started a fresh neighborhood and generated only a couple handfuls of Downtownies did that number go down. Now I usually have 4 to 6, mixed between Downtownies and Townies.

I'm positive when my max sims went to 4 with NL I only had a few townies on the downtown lots they were consistently fairly empty and when I put the cheat in to change it to 8 I have tons now. Actually it runs fairly slow now where it didn't before.

Most of the time, my computer can deal with this but I have the same thing happen to me. I think my record is about 18 sims or so on the same lot at once. And at the time I had only one playable sim out for the evening and she was not a part of a group. Fortunately this wasn't on a small lot so people still had room to move.

I use a custom neighborhood (and I believe, tho it's been a long time and I don't remember for sure) I deleted all the characters and have let the game remake them as needed. I left my visiting sims set at 2 (personally, I have enough trouble keeping 2 extra sims happy - I don't need 8 if I really want another one, I invite them before the event starts). I've got a reasonable number on downtown lots - when I get there it might be empty or just 2 and if I stay for a long time build up to about 6ish. It works really well for me. I have gradually seen more appearing (especially as I'm now playing a Uni neighborhood for the first time since installing NL) and ran into the other countess and the counts for the first time. The only issue I've had is not enough teens - too many of the NPCs are adults or young adults and I want more people for my teens to interact with (first dates and all).

Sagana, you can use the NPC generator that's accessible with the testing cheats to spawn some teen Downtownies. I've got to create a handful of them myself as well as a handful of regular Townie teens. There are currently two teen Townies (I made them from the sims Maxis recently released) in my neighborhood and the boy came home with my teen girl yesterday on the bus. I told her to flirt>check out sim and she was totally repulsed! I don't think she'll take it too personally if she doesn't get into the dating scene as a teen because she's a Knowledge sim, but it's still nice to have the option. She can always have her first kiss with her future hubby when she reaches adulthood.

To meet downtown teens I suggest you hang during daytime on downtown lots. For some reason, they are very rare after 8pm.

Probably because the stupid game since NL seems to think that is teenagers' bedtime. I got Monique's hack from MTS2 that lets sims stay later to circumvent that, but it still doesn't seem to want to generate any teens downtown on community lots at night. I actually made Amelia and Bartholomew (Maxoidmonkey's teen vamps from the official site) into real vampires in the game and moved them into the npc household (where the other vamps are) and set them as the same npc type as the other vampires but I can never seem to get them to show up. I guess I will probably have to try for the small window between 7 when it gets dark and 8 after which the game doesn't seem to want to have teens show up on the downtown lots. :p

The first time I saw the teens had a curfew I thought it had to be another bug. One of my teens had invited her boyfriend over for dinner and 8:30 rolls around and he says, "Oh my! It's getting late. I'd better be getting home!" or some such. I thought previously it was a little odd they could stay out until all hours of the night and no one cared, but this seemed a little bit too early. I think a more reasonable curfew would be 10:00 or so.
Example: your teen comes home from school at 1 p.m., leaves for work at 2 and comes home at 6 p.m., then does their homework, just when are they suppose to socialize? Just one more reason why my sim teens won't hold jobs longer than it takes them to satisfy their parents' ridiculous over-acheiver wants.

Yes and the dumb thing is, you can still call them after 9 and invite them over but then they will complain that it's late and immediately leave after being greeted. Well if they think it's so late why the hell did they come over in the first place.

Well if they think it's so late why the hell did they come over in the first place. LOL! I got to thinking a bit ago about something to do with this. I think if your sim asks them on a date then all curfews are null and void, which leads me to think that possibly the curfew is encouragement for dating. Well, my sims like to date, but not all of them date casually and frankly, most of them are too busy for a bunch of 'casual' outings. I did notice yesterday that a sim could call and ask another sim on a date even though it was after midnight, while if they had just called to talk they would've got into big trouble.

If you can manage to get them to agree to spend the night before 8 you can also get them to stay, but I still think this is an annoying 'feature' and have used a hack to get around it.

Well if they think it's so late why the hell did they come over in the first place. Oh, I hate that! And it's not just teens who will leave right after you greet them. I had several adults complain about it being "too late" in the middle of the day! Was that intended as well or is it a bug?

I got Monques stay later hack too, I got tired of people leaving at 6 or 8, well it getting late. I got a lot of townies on my lots but what I hate is I have a bunch of elders, I hate them. even if I am one myself, nobody said I had to like it. I only had a few when I installed NL but I changed my CPU settings in config graphic rules sgr, to the same default as UNI, my game does not run slow either. I am going to leave it like that until I get my new video card with more ram. Now, how do I get rid of the seniors downtown and replace them with adults and young adults, the seniors are townies.

I did notice yesterday that a sim could call and ask another sim on a date even though it was after midnight, while if they had just called to talk they would've got into big trouble. They just extended the time - you can "ask on date" until 2:00 am and after that you get the same "why are you waking me up" stuff you get for calling. Oh and if you invite a date home late at night, make sure you have enough time on the date clock to get them to woohoo. Otherwise they'll say it's too late and leave. (Personally I thought that should be the equivalent of asking them to spend the night, but it's not). Has anyone got the "want a ride home" thing to work out? How does it work?

Is this different from the "ask sim home" when on a date? If it is, I haven't even seen this. Where do you see this interaction?

It is different than "Ask Sim Home". I had a Sim who wanted to ask her date home and that was the only option on the car that I saw so I figured that had to be it - but nope, it's not! I'm not exactly sure what the point of it is, my Sim arrived at home by herself, the date was over, and that was that. I guess if you didn't want your date to hang around on the lot after your date is over it would be useful, maybe there's another use for it that I can't think of.

that's what happened to me too - I thought maybe I was doing it wrong, or the other sim didn't have a place for them to go home or something... I wanted them to go woohoo at *her* place (his was kinda crowded)
