I took a look at this, but it's not really what I'm looking for. I don't need the crops to be harvestable the minute I plant them; I think it's more realistic to have to wait. But when I do harvest them, I don't want to have one of my Sims spend all day doing it!
Hey, harvest time is always a busy time on a farm. Try BRY's "Be Farmer" option and get yourself some slaves. Slaves. You can never have too many slaves.
Says the man who says making buyable slaves is impossible.

I was thinking of spawning some plantsims to be used as garden slaves. I haven't done so yet. Maybe JM will do a Garden USES you.
I've got two plantsims on my subsistence farm household. I don't have a farmer's market set up, but I occasionally sell my produce just through the interface. I've got two humans, two plantsims, and a servo. The humans occasionally fish for fun and to socialize, but the plantsims take care of the gardens and the trees, fish, paint, and hold down jobs. The servo does all of that plus chores and repairs. I haven't bought them any food in weeks, and the humans can usually split a single salad or fish dinner and maybe have leftovers.
If I didn't have humans on the lot, I'd only be keeping the produce that would give me skill or badge points and selling everything else.

I also wish that we could transfer stuff from inventories more easily. 60 tomatoes mean 60 clicks. Ouch, can I sue EA for my carpal tunnel problem?
One of my sims has nearly 300 tomatoes in his inventory. I accidentally told him to harvest instead of sell, and now if I want to get money for them, I have to sell them the hard way: one tomato at a time.

Just grabbed it. Well worth the download.
Now I just need a Bass-O-Matic, to make delicious juices from fish, and I won't even need a stove.

Ok, first of all you don't want harvesting to be faster until you already have that gold gardening badge. After that there's no advantage to slow harvesting. But once you get the gold badge, harvesting is fairly fast anyway.
I guess people don't remember the book from the 60's, "The Secret Life of Plants" where they were reporting on Russian research into stuff like talking to plants to make them better.

I'm pretty sure the speed of the harvesting itself is both independent of badge level and independent of the gain from harvesting, which is one-shot and not dependent on the time it takes to harvest a plant.

It seems to be at least partly personality-based, i.e., active Sims harvest faster than lazy ones, just as you would expect. I agree that the badge level doesn't seem to make any difference (unlike, say, cash register skills that speed up as you gain badges).

There is no evidence to support that, either: The animations are canned and the same regardless of a sim's activity level. However, if multi-harvesting using Macrotastics, or manual piloting, Active sims will accomplish any set of tasks faster simply because it does not take them 3 hours to get to the right location!

Pescado doesn't have any lazy Sims, so he's never seen the lazy animations.
