I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get them to show up. Objects show up. All hacks seem to work. Walls and floors are OK but no skins or genetics. Anyone know of a solution. Please, I miss my skins!

I'm not a Sims2 genius by any means. It sounds to me like you have a bad instal. The custom content disabler in NL doesn't include skins or genetics. Did you backup your SavedSims folder and your Downloads folder before installing NL? Maybe you could slip the old folders back in. Hopefully someone else will answer your thread and be able to tell you how to fix this instal.

Put all the files you described in the savedsims folder. If it doesn't work may a LFBVFS fall on me.

I had backed everthing up on discs because I had to reformat my harddrive. When I went to reload them all the discs were blank. ?? I had some I had put on disc in May so I reloaded them. Everything shows up but the skins.

Did you by any chance get a new burner for your puter? Some burners only like certain brands of discs for some reason.

No, I didn't get a new burner but I'm about ready to. This one is supposed to play DVDs and doesn't anymore and it doesn't read some discs that it used to.
Putting the skins into a newly created 'SavedSims' folder worked. Thanks, I now have all my skins back. Yeah!

I've got the same problem - none of my custom skins, accessories or make up are showing up now that I've installed nightlife... moving them to saved sims works, you say?
I'd really rather have them in downloads - anyone else encountering this? why is it happening?!

Because Maxis is a round mound of grey fatness. Moving them is actually very easy if you have TS2CleanInstaller - just arrange them in terms of type.

and there was much rejoicing!
moving all of it to SavedSims makes it show up... which is kid of annoying - I've never used that Directory before, I had to create it... but at least I have make up that doesn't make my sims look like trashy whores...

What do you have against trashy whores?

I would like to ease the minds of anyone that thinks that I am ignoring them. You are not paranoid. I am not normal. I have never met a normal person. I disbelieve in such mythical creatures.

not much, really, if that's the type of sim you want to play... looks great for some of the romance sims I've had...

You don't necessarily need to move them to the Saved Sims folder. Instead, first take the whole Downloads folder out of the game directory. Then start up Bodyshop, which will automatically generate a new Downloads folder. Move all of your downloads to this new folder. They should show up, at least this trick has worked for other people who had their clothing, make-up etc missing.
