Making community lot sell stuff with no owner

Ok, I'm either missing something really obvious and am apparently braindead or this just doesn't work this way.
I made a small community lot. I purchased it with my sim. He (and his parents) had been working hard to make a whole shelf full of every item and variety (not all the flowers though). He went down, stocked his "general" store with flowers, toys, and robots. He made all the items "for sale." Then he went home, sold the store, and I moved it to my house bin (to make it available in my other hoods). Then I plopped it back down and sent a sim there.
Sigh. All the customers were in the break room (the locking doors feature obviously doesn't last through a sale) and none of my crafted items were available for sale.
So, did I do something wrong? Or do the game mechanics just not allow this.

It's possible that when the store was sold, everything in it was sold as well (like the furniture in a house), although that hasn't happened with mine. Probably to do with the fact that you put it into the Lots & Houses Bin, it would probably revert to its original form (i.e., only what was there to start with). Or it could just be that crafted items belong to the owner, not the lot, which is probably more likely.

I didn't explain very well.
All the crafted items were still there on the for sale shelves, just none were available to buy. I couldn't click on them to purchase.

I don't think you can buy stuff from a store that no Sims owns. Since you put it in the bin it revert and all the items you tag for sale or no longer tag.

If you sell a business, it will lose all of its business data and cease to be a store.

Thanks for the answer!
At least I know I didn't do anything wrong, the game just doesn't work that way.

If, however, another Sim buys it, the items that were marked for sale will still be sellable.
Edit: though I don't know if that's true if you move the lot to the bin.

Moving lots to the bin destroys all information.
