The scanner gun hack never works in my game...

What am I doing wrong? I have the latest version, it's in directly in my downloads (no subdirectory), I have RTFM. I've had older versions of the same hack, and it's never worked, on any lots.
Is there any known conflicts? I have a lot of hacks, I'd rather not list all of them.
I hate searching for that stupid thing.

Have you tried putting the scanner on a table to start? If it begins on the floor, then the scanner will be "homeless". You have to give it a home first.
