How to use a hex editor with SimPE?
« on: 2006 September 27, 13:18:13 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I want to streamline the property sets for all my earrings, necklaces, etc., but going in and fixing them one by one is way too much for me. I heard that hex editors can find and replace certain values in the packages? But I d/led one and have no idea how the hell to use it for Sim-package purposes.

Help please?

Extract the individual resources to (a) file(s).

Open these files in your hex editor (the .simpe, not the .xml ones).
Find and replace.

Import back in SimPE.

Wait, so I've got to open them up one by one and then edit? Copy and paste seems like it'd be easier then. No way to dump all files in a folder and batch edit the property sets?

Oh, just propery sets?

Extract them and put them in one package. Open this package in the hex editor and batch find/replace.

What I mean is, if I've got a gazillion packages, and all I want to edit is that one line in each package, I'd have to open up all the packages, and then extract?

Cuz right now I've got some earrings that are one property set, and some are another, and some necklaces that have the same PS as the earrings, and it's all a mess. That's what I'm trying to fix.

Right... Well you would have to open all the packages in a modal (MDI) hex editor and do a find/replace all... if such a beast exists.

I don't know of another way.
