TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: KT's Store Fixes (updated 03.21.2012)

I guess this only fixes what it says it fixes, i. e. problems with the animations of the objects, missing parts of them and the function of the objects themselves?
I got the compilation for February 2012 as one package (including the magic items) and I got very bad crashing problems in Bridgeport, which stopped when I removed the file (there was a whole area in the town which I could not click or even get close to anymore). I deleted a few other objects (which I had for longer though) and of course the compilation includes more than the magic stuff, but I am convinced that one or more of the magic items caused the crashing. I have the spellbook in one merged package and recently installed Hidden Springs (retail version/pack) but I still have those and my game works again.

Just put some of your other townies into one or more of the social group families. I think 0.71.13 is probably ok for doing that.
Great! I spent the last two hours thinking about a tool to do that. I am not sure if it will stop the respawning though. Generally, I never had a problem with newly generated townies, it very rarely happened, not even when I moved some townie teens to university. But now I see this massive increase in population and I need a way to control it. I started the game, loaded a residential house and began writing, I did not play at all. When I minimised the game I noticed that the folder with the character files was still open and there was a new character. I have mainly played Strangetown so far and it already has ca. 30 more new characters than Pleasantview, about 10 of them were created last night. I really do not want to go through the hassle of deleting all those sims, so I begin to worry about playing my game now. It does not seem to be a problem for everyone, but my apartment dwellers (I have two apartment buildings in Strangetown) are invading the hoods.

Damn it, I want a mountain destination with all the characters from Twin Peaks now! With Bob instead of Bigfoot? What happens when the sim rolls the want for a "bigfoot hug"? If memory serves, Bob was not renowned for his hugs. The sim would find him/herself in a realm where wants and fears don't matter anymore.

I never associate real places with my sims. Me neither! But I have to say, your vacation sims= teh awesome. Thanks. Good NPCs make it a lot more fun to play. Sometimes I am tempted to send sims on a holiday, because I miss seeing Zeeshan dancing the hula. Many of them women who met him want to see him again too. I did the same with the hobby sims and now I want all my playables to become hobby club members so they can meet them.

I never associate real places with my sims. They live in their own universe, so they have places which are probably similar to some place on earth but it doesn't mean it's the same. I based the sims I created on a general idea of "Asian", "Island people", "Mountain people". When I looked at the Three Lakes locals before I replaced them all I remember were sloppy and had stink as a turn-on. There seems to be the idea that they are a bit uncivilised, being so isolated up there. I used mainly Enalya's skins for the Takemizu village, but to avoid that they all look too much the same, I also mixed in some of helaene's old skins. That's some of them there: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=17947901&uid=2916537

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what the hell are the benefits of being in The Zone anyway?

I think I will adopt my own benefit system and change them accordingly with SimEnhancer because I do see the difference, especially in winter when energy and hygiene drops incredibly fast. USDA Grade A BS. Energy decay in winter is the same as it is in every other season except Summer, for adults, -255 to -205 per day (depending on Activeness). Summer decay rate is -220 to -180 for adults. Hygiene is -300 to -100 (depending on Neatness) regardless of season. Oddly, these values mean that slobby sims are the ones that bathe a lot and neat sims are the ones that don't. Very counter-intuitive. Strange. I see a massive energy/hygiene decay when they are outside in bad weather/snow.

And a funny thing about those less-motive-decay things is...they often seem to do jack shit.
And I wonder if that's due to a lot of the new hobby activities draining energy and such like all get out. A lot of them also drain hygiene like hell, but at least that makes sense. Pottery and working on cars are dirty business.
I hate that going jogging drains energy so much though. Shouldn't the extra adrenaline and endorphins actually give them a bit of a boost?
At least popularity, pleasure and romance sims get useful motive-decay bonuses. The benefits for family sims on the other hand are of so little value to me that I don't see why I should bother with benefit points for them. Before they get to the - interesting - energy motive benefit they have to reduce fun and social needs (which for several reasons I see as a disadvantage). Fun and social is NOT what a pregnant sim is lacking, why couldn't they get a hunger/energy benefit? Plead with social worker? - I've seen the social worker once soon after I started playing sims 2 and I didn't save then. More twins? - How original, not that there are a zillion ways to get twins already (and who wants twins all the time anyway?). I think I will adopt my own benefit system and change them accordingly with SimEnhancer because I do see the difference, especially in winter when energy and hygiene drops incredibly fast. I am also beginning to wonder whether I should install the patch, didn't someone make it available here somewhere?

That way no sim would ever reach the top of their careers unless you turned aging off?
I'd much rather see "started as a file clerk, promoted to secretary, then personal assistant, and retired as an office manager" or "started as a general construction worker, retired as a foreman" than the whole architect/lawyer/business tycoon nonsense. I just don't know how to make it happen. I would really like some dead-end careers, where it does not make much difference whether you reach the top level because you still aren't much better off than before, but my search for custom careers like that wasn't very successful so far. If you play with your sims for a very long time it is not always easy (or fun) to keep them from acquiring skills, so that they don't get promoted. I have two sims in the politics career and every creative activity is forbidden to them.

Three mindless coffee jockeys? Three mute chefs, when it's a work of sadorandom luck to ever find one in a situation where you can actually "meet" them?
Oh, they give you plenty of chances to meet them, it's called "Do you mind if I bring a friend along?". And with Freetime the visitors on the hobby lots were almost exclusively NPC's, actually always the same numbers, 2 students, 1 professor, 2 townies/downtownies and 2 service sims/NPC-NPCs (kitchen workers, maitre d' etc.).

Since I have to go back in time to a pre-FT state I decided to be very careful when I choose a secondary aspiration. I did not have any marriages/engagements when I had FT installed, but one of the last things (with the TwoJeffs fix in) I noticed was that a former 3-bolt couple was suddenly a low end 2-bolt couple after I gave the husband a secondary popularity aspiration (his wife is knowledge), although the secondary aspiration is not meant to affect the attraction system.

Just bear in mind that sims are very slow in everything they do, so a lot of time seems to pass on a community lot or in the business very quickly, without your sim having done much. I can live with that, though. Just try out if it works for you. Don't forget about the sethour cheat. I use it all the time with the community time project. I send my sim to the business at 9 a.m., and home at 5 p.m., but very often I end up setting back the hour while I'm there to get more done. I thought this cheat only worked with the original game or am I getting this mixed up with Sims 1?

another BAD combination is nervous subject and loki beaker. (yeah, i know that in real life two guys would never have genetic spawn with each other, but i'm twisted that way). oh, give me hope. circe and nervous are both pregnant from loki. i guess it was rather unfortunate for me that nervous and loki had better chemistry than circe and loki. oh well, gives them character. Nervous and Circe had a child in my game and she isn't exactly beautiful. She inherited Nervous' eyes, although if I remember correctly they are not dominant. But if you kept Loki in his original state (I changed his brows), the child would not have much of an alternative, the weirdest outcome I could imagine would be Loki's brows with Nervous' eyes. I have to admit that I would have never let the above dormie breed with anyone. It is one of the ugliest face templates in the entire game and I think the son was lucky not to inherit the mouth of his father, his profile is bad enough. You don't have to follow any folly of your sims, especially since Daphne could have rolled a want to get engaged to somebody else only days later, shy knowledge sim or not.

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Crammyboy's nudist hack v2.07 (updated for Bon Voyage)
|
on: 2008 March 23, 22:18:10
|
I don't think that's true. I finally put this hack back in my game today, deciding I didn't want to wait any longer for an update that might never materialize. In one of my houses I have a teen who seems obsessed with the exercise machine (the stationary bike from FT), and he often uses it autonomously. He went from 2 fitness points to 3 in a few hours, and I did see the message indicating he had gained enthusiasm. Macro...Hobbinate also works fine with this hack installed, as far as I can tell. So it is definitely possible to still gain fitness enthusiasm with this hack installed.
If there are "major conflicts" (as someone stated above), I haven't run into any yet. Does anybody know for sure what it might conflict with?
Karen
See above. It works with the exercise machine that came with FT (the one you used), it does not work with the older exercise machines. Sims gain fitness enthusiasm from swimming, but not from yoga or tai-chi. I am not sure about working out with the stereo or tv. But it does not leave many options for fitness enthusiasm.

I was thinking about taking objects to the lots in the inventory and removing them again before leaving it
You cannot access your inventory on a HL. You'll have to use the dorm cheat to buy stuff after arrival and to sell it before you leave if you don't want to lose the money. On the plus side, you can sell all the crap on the lot for extra cash. I was going to try out Bimbelina's buy/build mode enabler, which gives you access to the inventory. I was about to do that last night when my C: partition decided to go AWOL. Now I am merely distracting myself from the unpleasant thought that most of my data may be lost. I was also planning to burn my downloads on DVD's over easter...

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any fix yet to enable buy/build mode?
|
on: 2008 March 22, 10:25:09

Enabling build/buy on hobbylots is meaningless, because the main problem is that you cannot normally LOAD them in the first place without HAVING SIMS ON IT, and saving the lot in a state when there are SIMS on it will likely produce a borked lot filled with residual trash, like orphaned invisible and/or visible cars and travel controllers. The dorm code would work just fine, so you don't need any special objects to enable build/buy at all, but the problem is, YOUR SIMS WILL BE ON THE LOT, towing all their invisible travel garbage which will become dangling gibberish when you then leave the lot and reload it again.
To avoid this, the lot needs to be loaded in a pristine, Simless state, which cannot be done with any hacked object.
Would this be true even if you only turn the shower the right way round (on the arts and craft hobby lot) or retrieve food from the inventory? And how would you save the lot differently from just leaving with your sims? I was thinking about taking objects to the lots in the inventory and removing them again before leaving it because I did not think that any build mode changes would be saved.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Crammy's Penis and FreeTime
|

Add their penises to the ones that I've slept with and I feel that I can honestly say that average size is around 5 inches, maybe a little more. Smaller then that is pretty common, larger not so much, and one of the ones that was larger, was much larger and did indeed scare me. He had a porn penis! No thank you, we fooled around once, not again. Ow. My bits did not have enough use to be stretched enough for that aparently.
5 inches equals roughly 13 cm and that seems fairly average to me. One of my former colleagues used to ask men how many pennies (Pfennige) they could place on their penis and usually the answer was between 10 - 12 (with the exception of one guy who said 20). The assumption was that a penny is a centimetre long (while in fact it is 1 1/2 centimetres, so the question ended with her placing the amount of pennies on a table and the male in question going slightly pale). While under extreme weather conditions a penis can shrink in length and might come to resemble a premium bottle champagne cork it - this is in answer to your question ScoobyDoo - does not seem to shrink much in girth. I base this on what I have seen in private and in various places where you can sunbathe in the nude. As for extreme sizes: I went to an exhibition in connection with an anniversary of the gay movement and it had a life size model of male porn star Jeff Stryker in erect state. I would run and hide if I came across that in reality.

Read my thread in Peasantry. No, just doing the dormspecifictools cheat doesn't work, because you can't save while a lot is a secret hobby lot. It stalls into oblivion. You have to do the changes while it is zoned as a community or residential, then save, then basically overwrite the lot description file (using SimPE) with the old one.
Of course, that raises the issue of how you are getting to the lot. I had (in my tutorial) been doing it by having a sim visit and then changing the lot's type. Per Pescado, this is a bad thing (not a very bad thing, but bad nonetheless). He did a rather longer method involving terrain surgery and lots of cleaning which works, but I want to be able to set them to different sizes as well. Hence my current experiment. Should have time to smack things into submission between tonight and tomorrow.
I read the thread, but it seems a lot of effort if you only want to stick in one object, change floors and wallpapers or turn a shower the right way round, especially since I am in the middle of replacing all the ugly hobby instructors. The worst is that apart from the instructors none of the other hobby sims turn up. There are not that many. Instead all the NPCs I never bothered with, waiters, professors and students come to these lots. I have about 850 sims in Pleasantview right now, there are 100 - 150 which belong to university, most of them still in their original ugliness. Plus the service sims. To change all of them I have to go into sims mass production.

Well I was aiming for realistic sizes. I did improve the girths a bit since I posted those pics (version 1.1).
So you keep saying, but unless you post pictures of them I don't believe it. At the moment the evidence is speaking against you.

I haven't tried it, since I don't hang out in the clubhouses ever, but does the dormspecifictools cheat not work there, like it does everywhere else?
Has anybody tried this? Maybe I will tonight. A lot of my sims are well off, so they could afford to donate a few objects to the hobby places. I was hoping the games lot would have a poker table but then I realised that it came with Nightlife. But now to the stupid question: How would I have to do it? I never used the cheat because I always changed the dormers by rezoning them before any sims moved in. Don't I have to save and leave the lot before the cheat works?

I love BFF's. There are massive lifetime point boosters, several of my sims are on constant platinum and even while there visiting others or sleeping I see these 5000+ symbols popping up over their head. It makes their lifetime meter climb to a level which they should have had in the first time (and hopefully balances the motive decay when I play them longer).

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Obsessive Diary-Writing
|
on: 2008 March 15, 11:11:18

The problem with no autonomy hacks is that as you squish each action the sims fall back on the next one and that one becomes annoying requiring it to be squished as well so the sims fall back on another and the cycle continues until you might as well just turn free will off. Currently my sims are obsessed with looking at paintings/sculptures/kitchen cabinets etc. to the point where they will do it even if they are about to piss themselves.
They even do that without any anti autonomoy hacks. I noticed the same thing. I had only one sim trying to write his diary in the last few days, while several others suddenly became art critics. Well, mostly I had a sex-crazed suicidal Servo, but that's a different story.
