Is anyone with no mods at all getting a swarm of meteors? I'm open to the cause being mod conflict but I don't use the mod previously fingered as the culprit (only running Twallan mods at the moment), and even adding in a "no meteors" mod I still got a hit on my active family last night. The dead are piling up in a pretty inconvenient manner for a closed neighborhood.
I've been playing mod free for many sim weeks and have not seen a single meteor strike. Now I kind of want to have one.

Well, it would have been smart of me to mention in my original post I wasn't using any mods. I was actually going to do that, but forgot. The reason I posted my question here is that I'm used to getting the most informed answers here, whether or not AM related.

I was under the impression that enabling testing cheats was called the "debug" mode, so that's what threw me off. I guess I'm a cheat noob. Well, in any case, the problem has been solved. (BTW, I don't have AM installed if the debug interactions are in any way connected to that.)

OK, I feel like an idiot, but what do I click on when I do the ctrl+shift+click to edit the skill level? I don't see an option about setting skills when clicking on the sim, and clicking the skill bars does nothing. (I have testing cheats enabled.) Any info I find online claims there is no cheat in Sims 3 to modify skills.
ETA: Since I couldn't get it working mod-free, I added the Master Controller, removed the skill levels 7 and 8, then added them back, and now he can cook Key Lime Pie just fine.

I thought I'd read about a missing skill point problem with Generations, but now I can't find the information anymore, so I don't know if this is Generations related or not.
I have a sim who is at level 8 of cooking skill, and yet he can't cook any foods that require skill beyond level 6. He could at first, but not anymore. At some point after he reached level 8, the dishes related to that skill level showed in his cooking skill diary among the foods he can cook, while level 7 foods were missing. Now they're both missing. I've tried resetting him, but it doesn't change anything. This has not affected all my sims with Generations, because another one, who's now dead, used to be able to cook just fine up to level 10.
So, is this a Generations related bug or something else? And is there any way to fix it?

I've definitely had DEP related crashes after installing each EP. It basically made the game unplayable, because as soon as I'd unpaused it it crashed. I don't remember fiddling with any DEP settings prior to that, including changing it from the default, but it's possible my ex-husband who built my computer had done it originally. The last time the crash happened after installing Generations (and the patches), my computer actually helpfully suggested adding the game to my DEP list (in a message in a pop-up window).
The reason you get a DEP crash after installing a new EP, is the game uses a different .exe to launch. So each EP/SP .exe needs to be added to the DEP whitelist. If DEP. If your DEP wasn't enabled, you wouldn't have a list to add it to in the first place. Easy to tell though. Just press Windows Key + Pause Break (Or right click my computer and click properties). Then under the advanced system properties (Advanced tab), you have a settings button, and within the settings window is your Data Execution Prevention tab. By default the top option (Turn on DEP for essential Windows Programs...) is selected. In this configuration you won't need to use the whitelist to add each .exe everytime you install an EP/SP. Yeah, I was aware of the reason I needed to add a new .exe to the list after each EP. I was only surprised to hear that, by default, this shouldn't be necessary, since I don't remember changing the default settings originally. But if you're saying that's the case, then the only explanation I can think of is my ex-husband who built the computer and installed the Windows had changed that setting. I don't have access to my game computer at the moment, but as soon as I do, I'm going to change it back to the default setting.

I'm having jump bug sort of issues which I haven't had, I don't know, since never. First when teaching a toddler to talk, and then with two (married) elders trying to sleep in the same bed. Also I encountered some problem with all sims in a household turning invisible during a toddler being potty trained. Everyone else eventually returned visible, except for the toddler, who was fixed by resetsim.
Edited to add: OK, the jump bug is not limited to elders in double beds, but to anyone sleeping in any kind of a bed, including toddlers. They just jump out of the bed while nowhere near fully rested.

Generations was not supposed to come out in Finland until June 3rd, so I took a leisurely bike ride to the supermarket to pick up some blueberries, and just happened to check out the game section, and there it was on the shelf. I was not quite mentally prepared yet to face the disappointment of the half-baked EP.
One thing I noticed that hasn't been mentioned here yet (that I can see) is that clicking on items in a sim's inventory now brings up the option to "Give gift".

You AREN'T contributing information, is the problem. You are contributing noise, but no signal. You are perilously close to becoming the new ZephyrZodiac, who used to post in every thread, whether she had anything useful to say or not. If that's what you want to do, you need to go to Jeffistan, where they tolerate that kind of thing.
In my opinion, at least in this particular case it is useful information to know if someone is not experiencing a problem with a game feature. Knowing that may narrow it down to fewer possibilities when looking for a solution. Either there is something different with the original poster's game, or they are doing something differently from the people who do not have the problem. Now we know it's not something that anyone with any version of the game is experiencing.

I seem to be having a problem with purchasing real estate. From what I've read, I understand that you should be able to buy most of the non-residential lots as long as you have enough money. My sim who has 50,000 simoleans of cash still doesn't get the purchase option with most of them. The option is there only for some fishing spots and a beach. How expensive exactly are the junk yards and laundromat, are they really over 50,000?

Since installing Ambitions/new patch, I haven't been able to have my Sim excavate anything. They complain of a routing failure, even if they're standing right next to it.
They'll excavate dig sites on lots, but the ones on open land are fucked. Ahh, so that explains why my sim seemed to be skipping the excavations sites I directed her to. I didn't see exactly what happened because usually I'm elsewhere looking for new places to explore for the sim and just have a long queue of actions lined up in the background.
