TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Mmkay, I'm stupid. Friend count for jobs question.
|
on: 2011 January 25, 01:02:28
|
Disclaimer: I'm lazy (hence why I'm not testing this myself). Recently, I've been playing TS2 more, and noticed that family members don't seem to apply to the friend count for jobs (talking about family members in separate residences, obviously I don't expect those in the same household to count). So, if Fred lives alone, and is friends with only his brother, the friend count on the job panel shows 0 friends. Is this a TS2 thing or do I have a hack that's causing it? If this is a TS2 thing, is there a fix? 'Cuz really what's the point of being friendly with family if theres' no benefit (also the strategy I take in RL)?

It's the 8th EP... have you noticed a pattern? Perhaps that old hacks are updated to be compatible with new EPs? If the hacks you're using aren't AL-ready (which InTeen most definitely isn't), your pants are so tight they're cutting off your circulation. Remove tight pants.
I've read a lot of bug reports and while AL has some truly special ones, the only time I've seen aging issues mentioned deals with aforementioned tight pants. If the issue still occurs after removing incompatible hacks, THEN come whine about it.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Census Tool Borkage?
|
on: 2008 September 14, 02:53:17

I have all EPs and SPs. I tried to check my neighborhood gender/asp stats today, but no pleasure sims showed up (0/0/0). I know I have a few pleasure sims running around so I'm not sure why they aren't being counted. All the other aspirations seemed to be counted accurately (at least none of the numbers were unreasonable - I haven't counted in SimPe or anything), although 39 unidentified sims were indicated. The census tool is the one available in the DC (redownloaded today to check), dated 3/25/07. This is the first time I've tried to use it in AL and I don't recall uncounted pleasure sims before. Did I break it?

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: AL Borked the NPC and Townie Maker Gun
|
on: 2008 September 04, 14:50:29

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The NPC and Townie gun is a game thing... testingcheatsenabled true > spawn > NPC and Townie Maker
The Teleporter Cat hasn't been updated, but it shouldn't need to be unless Inge decides to add new options for the new EP (I'm hoping for "Make me social group townie"). Besides, in my cc-free test, the gun should have picked up "wild" townies if the problem was the fact that Sims were being townie-ized with the cat... it didn't.
I have the latest AL QA SimPE for looking around. In the case of actually editing, I'll probably wait until it's been tested a little better, although if I decide to try it with the QA, I'm backed up well.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / AL Borked the NPC and Townie Maker Gun
|

I am not pleased. I'm starting a new NH and wanted to make my own sims for various roles. I cleaned out the hood, then made some sims I like. Plunked a sim on a lot with the spawned NPC and Townie gun, Inge's Teleporter Cat, and the Lot Debugger.
I tried to make my own iconic hobbyists (which I've done before). I CAS'ed the sim I wanted, used the lot debugger to change the OTH, then townie-ized them with the cat. I then clicked on the gun, chose Make Iconic Hobbyist, but for all but Cuisine (which shows townies properly), only one sim was available to choose. In that particular hood, it was one of my four Pollination Technicians, but in another hood it was Sanjay Ramalamadingdongwhatever (not sure why the game is only picking these sims - neither are even townies). Generate Iconic Hobbyist works as expected (result = ugly as sin hobbyist - yay).
In looking around, the other non-iconic hobbyist options seems fine, except for "Make Vacation Sim." Now, it only lists options to make locals for each of the 3 vacations hoods, it used to give an option to make Tourists as well. In that case, if "Generate Vacation Sim" is selected, the option to generate tourists (for each of 12 families) is available in addition to generating locals.
I tested this in a cc-free hood as well, just to make sure I didn't have anything interfering, but no dice. Thoughts? Comments? A relatively painless alternative way to making one's own Iconic Hobbyists and Vacation Tourists? Right now, all I can think of to get my own custom looks for these groups is to do the "Generate" actions then makeover the Eaxian fuglies with Sim Surgery, then Deleted 2 the donors, but this sounds tedious and messy. Help?

Okay, I know, you've heard it. Not trying to annoy here, but for my $0.02, DO WANT the no-social group spawnage hack. Even if the spawning isn't out of control, I want to be in charge. If the game spawns a new social group townie, I have to find and make-over said townie. I'd rather just make my own and NPC gun them to what I want. I'd rather have an empty apartment than a fug townie to makeover (or kill when I'm sick of catch and release). I'll probably do what I do with dorms though - calculate how many townies I need to fill my apartments and make the correct number with a few extras to take over for those I make playable.
I wonder if the uber-spawnage some people are seeing is related to social groups and lot classes, however. The Prima Guide o' Lies seems to indicate that every lot has a "value" that will attract certain types of social groups. I wonder if the people seeing many spawns per game are going to many different class lots (apartments and community) so the game thinks it needs to make new townies to fit the lot ambiance even if that's over and above the apartment amount. If, for instance, all your apartments attract socialites, could the game be making gearheads to populate low class community lots but they'll never show up in your apartments? Then again, I'm probably talking out my ass here. Any insights on that, Pes... will the game move a gearhead into a nice, ritzy apartment if there aren't any socialites available or will a new socialite get spawned?
Fake Edit: Jaldeer - the swing is now under Hobbies > Recreation with the other playground equipment. Why they moved it, I do not know.

Shaklin's shaklin_vampkiss_more_interactions shows as needing possible updates. This makes me very sad. Definitely going to be testing it out... I really, really, really hope it's a false alarm.
Also, Squinge's OFBHireYA, but I think nolamehires allows hiring YA's, yes?

Yay! I have all the EP's (and SP's... I'm a good little sheep for EA's cash cow) so no problems there. Schweet... this will overcome the whole problem of me losing the will to live everytime I think about tackling this problem on my own. There are a freaking lot of "hidden" outfits but some are so nice!

TashaFaun - Do you have all the unlocked stuff available for download anywhere (I saw the AL witches, etc.)? I've been meaning to unlock the hidden outfits for myself, but everytime I start writing down all the names my eyes go blurry and I decide it isn't worth it. Cheers to you for having the fortitude to get through all those outfits!

I wonder why the furnished apartment feature didn't make it as a regular option? Stupid backwards Eaxian logic... default furnished apartments would have made so much more sense if they were only going to give one option. It's much quicker to go around sledgehammering than it is to redecorate the whole derned apartment. Especially since you should decorate if visitable NPC's are going to live there (as opposed to dorms that need nothing). Stupid. I vote for ApartmentsNeverUnfurnishThemselves or some other better named hack.
On the bright side, the correct cheat for moving stuff outside the apartment is win, even if it's a VBT to do massive rearrangements due to the parallel universe nature of apartments.

New DO NOT LIKE: Beach apartments = much borkedness. Apparently, this is mentioned in the read-me (who reads those?), I saw it mentioned on Sims2Community and just had to try it. Yeahhhh... hard to describe, but lots on any side and the ocean were way up above the apartment lot and kind of floating there with neighborhood sky blue underneath. Not pretty. Didn't seem to do any permanent harm once I deleted the lot, but definitely not playable. Booooooo.

Likes: - Maxed out good witch (infallibly good witch) = pretty. The new skintone is subtle with the little sparklies and the sparkling effect is KEWL. The magic effects when casting a spell, making stuff in the cauldron... also purdy. - Most of the objects are very nice - So far, apartments don't seem too laggy - New height variation for wall hangings without having twelve gajillion meshes designed to give that effect - Playground stuffeths FTW. I especially like the "play on playground" interaction so they autonomously move amongst the equipment choices. - New NH deco - power plant and pond are especially nice, alleys are so-so
Dislikes: - Gee, Eaxis, great job, you learned how to make age conversions of your meshes. Too bad you did it an EP later so all the good FT clothes that were worth converting had already been converted by the community. Uhg. The teen gypsy clothes, sweater vest/skirt combo, male sweaters... already had those. But, ya know, thanks. Glad you learned something new. - I'm about 50/50 on the new clothes... some are really nice, some are pretty fug. I'm not big on the whole "here is my midsection, let me show you it," trend, nor the super tight outfits. - 30 new hairs, my ass. We need 6 different colored barrettes or ponytail holders WHY? Who plays zoomed in enough to actually make it that noticeable?
In all, so far I'm liking it muchly. I personally think it's a nice way to finish out TS2.

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour.
|
on: 2008 August 27, 17:54:45

Well, I've played for about 3 hours now and knock wood, remarkedly little borkedness.
I was all prepared to come here and back-up Zaza's "no vibrate" problem, but I think I've got it figured out. If a single sim is relaxing on the bed, the vibrate option is available on the bed or the sim. Add a second sim relaxing and no more vibrate option anywhere... borked, I thought. Then I checked the nevah, evah wrong Prima Guide and it indicated that two sims have to be cuddling to get the vibrate option back. Haven't gone back in the game yet to make sure, but that seems reasonable. Also, per the Prima Guide, any nested actions with that cuddle will maintain vibration... e.g. cuddle>vibrate>makeout>woohoo... the vibrating won't stop until the sims break out of the cuddle interaction.
I have no problems placing a helicopter on a roof. Are you using the helipad in driveways to place the helicopter, Aner-Dyfan? It went on the roof fine for me with no cheats, helicopter was useable, no problems. The only place I couldn't place the helipad (and, ergo, the helicopter) was inside, and really, why would you put a helicopter inside unless you had a nifty opening roof?
No problems with color options for the FT nursery stuff here.
The new wall height thing also works on cc paintings (well, at least the one I tested), so YAY! I was scared that I was going to have to update all my paintings to use the new function.
I did get the neighbors running into my playable's apartment when my sim was giving birth... that'll get annoying. IRL, the neighbors WOULD NOT be invited to my (hypothetical, never to happen) home birth unless them came bearing enough Fentanyl and Morphine to knock out a rhino. I'm also getting the ADD on the new bookcase skills, but I think it might be related to maxed out fun. The sims are also getting off the piano when their fun is maxed, which is a PITA. This Eaxian obsession with kicking sims off skill-building fun objects once their fun is maxed out... DO NOT LIKE.
ETA: Well, that was too good to last. Apparently, apartments cannot be on beaches. It fucks the lot so everything around it (including the ocean) is floating up in the air. Great job on that, Eaxis. 'Cuz weren't beach lots the hot new thing just a few EP's ago?

Soooo... does the stuck object remover work on walls? According to the Prima Guide preview, neighbor noise is generated through an invisible object on the wall (although it spews visual sound stuffs, so maybe not so invisible) that is remedied by either banging on the wall or letting the noise expire. So, the basic gist of things... every apartment room that is adjacent to another apartment will have a crapped out environment score within a day from the thousands of invisible stuck sound emitter thingies. Oh the joy.

Will I borkinate anything if I make some children into vacation locals using the townie gun? I've got some kiddies that would fit in well with my vacation themes, but not sure if that's a Very Bad Thing (tm).

Thanks for the advice, El Presidente. It happened a second time so I broke down and got a new air conditioner. I hope that fixes it because I don't see anything wrong with fans or other internal components (although I wouldn't have known the heatsink from the kitchen sink without lots of searching today).
I'm totally paranoid now though, every time the air coming out of the rear fan feels warmer I start to get antsy. Yeesh, I wish I'd felt the air on the back before the stupid thing started having issues. Is there a good way to track CPU temps? I wish the computer would give a warning before it just shuts off (though I like shutting off better than melting).

TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Overheating CPU - HELP
|
on: 2008 July 27, 03:47:42
|
Today, for the first time ever, my computer shut down with no warning or anything. A few minutes later it would start up again (after a couple failed attempts) and a message came up stating that the computer had shut down due to a thermal incident (overheating). The room the computer is in isn't overly hot, it's near a window air conditioner that does a moderate job of keeping the room comfortable if not overly cool, and all fans seem to be working. Should I be worried or chalk it up to the room being too warm? I rarely turn off the computer, but at the time the computer shut off it wasn't doing anything stressful (just compressorizing some new downloads). TS2 was exited about one hour before the shut-down.
Also, the past few days I've felt like the computer is going slower (but I'm still not entirely convinced that it isn't in my head) in general, could this be related to running too hot?
Thoughts? Tips to prevent overheating in the future? I damn near panicked when the computer shut off without any warning and wouldn't turn back on right away... I'd like to avoid repeat episodes. (although it may end my procrastination on back-ups)

Will it borkinate anything to put an owned community lot into the Lot Bin? I know that the owner will no longer own the property, but that's okay. I'm trying to take the lazy way of reorganizing my business structure without having to go into a ton of lots to sell off the businesses, but if doing it the fast and dirty way causes problems with either the owners or the businesses I'll bite the bullet and do it the long way.

Does anyone know if the hobby leaders actually rotate if you have multiples? I used a clean template and made my own hobby leaders (one of each type). If they actually rotate, I may go through and make another set so there's a male and female hobby leader for each hobby, but if the extras are just in reserve if you manage to get rid of the primary, I won't bother.

Hmm... well, I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one. You've got to wonder how, after 7 EPs, they managed to fuck up something that hasn't changed since the base game. "Gee, we haven't touched that in years. Let's break it!" Sigh.

Not sure when this started, since I don't normally pay close attention, but recently I don't have CAS tooltips (the little pop-up that says the creator's name or whatever). I even tested by making an outfit in BodyShop, giving it a tooltip, and sticking it in game... no dice. Is this a FT thing or what?
