I've gotten the UFO 2 times now.  I hadn't changed a thing with my neighborhood.  So it's not tied to anything it is just random if you are in neighborhood view and idle.

Does the carpool show up for the Sims?  If it doesn't then maybe the portal issue is back.

And to add my two cents to everyone else, my game also freezes for an extended period of time when the pet comes home from his job.

Maybe it has to do with personality points and niceness.  Some people make friends easier than others.

Actually yes.  That same lot is also why I searched and found Crammyboy's portal fix.  Needless to say I never finished that Legacy family.

It was right after NL came out and I chalked it up to a glitch with the love letter/dinner coupons/5 star date rewards and didn't think much about it after I fixed it.  It was a Legacy lot and my Legacy lots tended to implode after about gen 4 back then.  The same family in the second generation had their mailbox ciompletely disappear once.  I caught it before the save and went and stalked the mailbox with a camera til I caught it on film.  Just *poof* disappeared.    That is how I found the replacement mailbox in the first place.

I had the same mailman loop error.  Dizzy looked at my logs and the mailman was trying to put the obstacle course in my mailbox.  I ended up deleting the mailbox and replacing it with another from Sim a Little Dream A Lot.  Didn't have a problem with it after that.

TreyNutz was conducting experiments on Sim sicknesses.  He also was bothered at how easy it was to cure the Sim with minimal effort.

There isn't a No Lobster Thermidor hack yet.

Don Lothario married a CAS Sim that was a fellow Romancer.  There was one Sim that she had previously dated that would leave flaming poo, steal her newspaper and kick her trash can all the time.  Don caught him outside once and paid him off to leave them alone.

It's been a while since I played them so I do not remember if it had the desired effect.

I do.  I just don't use the shutup and sit down one.  So sometimes they will idle off to my (gasp) unlocked open floor plan kitchen and when they have abused the skillinator to max the cooking skill... BINGO!   Lobster thermidor.

I heard it was a 20% failure rate.  But then again I could be lying.

Nothing else annoys me but the Lobster.
