TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: An idea for the game

Thank you for your replies. This is exactly the feedback I was hoping for. This is why I trust the site for answers. I didn't care if you were critical, only honest.
Personally speaking, I have countless CC files. Quite often I find myself searching through row upon row of objects to find a single item or the elusive new objects in your game. My decor/misc file is huge. Even if I have an idea where an item is located, it can take some time to pinpoint it. I am embarrassed to say this, but my other problem is an eye condition. This makes searching for items difficult by sight alone. I have my resolution set to display the items larger in the menu, but I still struggle.
I try to create collection files, but my game has a tendancy to randomly crash. I can't tell you how many times I have lost collection files this way. Also, I find the filter system is game biased. This is not helpful at all with CC files. My idea was the only way I could think of to assist me to save time searching. I assumed others would find it useful. I have been trying to find out if this was possible. I'm aware that an obvious solution is to have less CC and I have shaved my files down. But I still have a wide selection.
You are correct Gwill, I have no experience at all with coding. This is why I asked. Plus, to find out if I could realistically achieve this myself. In my ignorance, I had originally assumed that perhaps the eyedropper could be somehow modified. After all, the eyedropper does select a random object, similar to a search and transports you to its place in the menu. Shows you what I know. Also, I have tried to find an alternative solution. As a layman, I've been struggling a bit to find answers because I'm not sure if I'm asking the correct questions.
Anyway, I openly apologise to both Madame Mim and Gwill. All I can say is you caught me on a bad day and I took it out on you guys. I stand by my points though. My regret is that I expressed them in such an inappropriate manner.

In response to your OP: Possible? Probably. Would it be easy to do? Doubtful, if it were to work at all it would most likely be a stand alone program. Is it going to happen? No, unless you get off your ass and do it yourself. Or, in other words, In response to your tl;dr whining: and Thank you for your reply. I fully agree about attempting the idea myself. In fact, I have been doing some research into how I would learn to do this. Unfortunately, my lifestyle demands much of my time. But, I am more than willing to learn if it's possible. I fully deserve getting a slap down from you. Once again, my apologies.

Maybe I should have expressed myself more clearly: Read the FAQ and fuck off!
Despite my better judgement, I have decided to submit one more post in my thread. I hate the fact that I am forced to go off topic. I would like to apologise to all at MATY for this. It is NOT my intention to change the site or tell you how to run it. I respect how the site deals with people who deserve their wrath. It is in this spirit that I write this post. Please indulge me. The illustrious Madame Mim and the magnificent Gwill seem so eager to flaunt their in-depth knowledge of the FAQ. They have happily shared their wisdom in this thread, both in their own unique and charming way, I might add. I admire their spirit. It is glaringly obvious that they both share an impressive post count at MATY. As a result, I have a feeling that they post more than they read. Generally speaking, I exist here as a lurker. This means I read more often than I post. This has given me an unfair advantage, I suppose. Perhaps now, I can take this opportunity to enlighten Madame Mim and Gwill. I realise I may be perceived by some members as a lowly lurker. This leaves me open to ridicule. I accept that fact and know I run the risk of dealing with a lowly pleb when I post here. Saying that, this lurker doesn't take shit, from NOBODY; excuse my French. I have read the FAQ here at the site. In fact, to make sure I am not talking out of my ass, I read them twice over. There is no place in the FAQ section, that I am aware of, that states members CAN NOT post an idea. My thread title speaks for itself. My OP asks if my idea would be feasible. In other words; is such a thing even possible? In case you both don't know, that is exactly what feasible means. I was not requesting anything. I'll let you both in on a secret, I think before I post. I suggest you should both consider this before attacking someone in the future. Most importantly, get your facts right. The very last thing I wish to do is to pollute this forum with nonsense. I feel my idea is a valid one that could save players a great deal of time, improving the quality of the game. Actually, I privately submitted my idea to a well known creator who shares creations on this very site. Apart from liking the idea, I was advised who was best qualified to contact, which I plan to do. I posted here because I have faith that there are members here who possess the skills to answer my question. And who knows, maybe this idea could eventually become a reality. Once again, I have an unfair advantage. Being a lurker has it's perks. You see, I know EXACTLY who I am dealing with. I read your countless posts. If either one of you had taken a moment to read my post history (which isn't very long), you would have learnt that I am not a fool and will not be treated as one. You would have also learnt that I put my money where my mouth is and I have donated to the site you love. Don't know about you, but where I'm from, that is called; biting the hand that feeds you. By the way, I am NOT looking for praise, I am simply stating facts. I believe everyone here is awesome, in their own way. I have 2 catagories of awesome. These are Awesome and A.W.E.some. The first one speaks for itself. The second one appeals to my quirky side with the acronym, Assholes With Egos. Therefore, some members are awesome and some are assholes. I won't insult your intelligence by telling you which catagory I have now placed you both. I am confident you are clever enough to figure that out for yourselves. Again, my deepest apologies to the site for this outburst. The last thing I want is to cause trouble, please trust me. I have no need to draw attention to myself, my ego makes no such demands. I believe my post count attests to that fact. However, I am confident that you will respect that, if you push me, I push back, sometimes with furious vengeance. Thankfully, I have stayed calm this time. I sincerely hope my composure places some validation upon my words. Sadly, this is the second time I have been forced to put some plebs in their place. It's safe to say it has become tiresome.

Go away.
I do apologise. Alas, I am not fluent in the plebeian tongue. In vain, I had assumed that my OP was transparently directed towards one of the sites more learned practitioners. You can therefore imagine my surprise when I read your nonsensical words. Thank you for your attempt to reply. While we of More Awesome Than You do feel some sadness towards the fact that your education and erudite ways have rendered you incapable of normal human conversation modes, we will not allow our softly beating hearts to interfere with the correct manner of response to requests such as yours. Allow me to offer a translated version of what I thought was a rather concise post on the part of Gwill. Unfortunately we are unable to help you in your current quest because of several large flaws in your application process. 1. This site does not solicit requests for mods to be made, nor does it cater to them. 2. This forum is the incorrect place to be requesting anything in any case. 3. The ‘more learned practitioners' of this site like to be taken out to dinner and wooed a little before you try to take advantage of them. 4. I'm sure others will be along to offer more succinct suggestions to what you can do with your request. I, in turn, promise to return and translate them for your backwards-ignorant mind. Finally, someone with at least half a brain has responded to the topic at hand. I appreciate your frank reply. However, I can see that any further discussion is unnecessary and will most likely steer away from the topic. I would be a fool to try and match your level of wit and intelligence Madam Mim. Thank you for your blathering response.

I wonder.
Would it be feasible to create a mod or program that would enable you to search for an item by name? In effect, you would enter the name while in Buy/Build and it would take you directly to the item in the menu. I realise we have collections and filter content in the game already. However, I feel it could be a big time saver if added to the existing features.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Fix for Create a Pet 'Hello Kitty'
|
on: 2012 August 25, 00:30:46
|
Couldn't find any posts here on this subject, so I've come out of the shadows to share a fix I found recently. Hope this helps.
For a while now I have been unable to edit in the advanced coat section when I create a pet. Oddly, the window that appears in the upper left hand corner has the words 'Hello Kitty' written four times. I rightly figured it was one of my countless CC files. I had narrowed it down to one of my consolidated package files that I made using CCMagic. Unfortunately, that file contains dozens of objects and I was too lazy to narrow it down any further.
Thankfully I stumbled across a post recently that revealed the culprit file which is; JS_blondmermaid_UltraModernLiving_Chair.
I have tested this by making a new consolidated package file omitting the said file and I can confirm it solves the issue.
Also, I invite anyone to post detailing any other problem file they have encountered.

Glomped? GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!
Also: duncandisorderly - can you post the solution for others?
I'm more than happy to post again and share the solution. My apologies for not thinking to do this before. It was suggested to me that I should look into setting my mouse options on a per-program basis. My existing Set Point options only allow me to set the individual buttons to suit the current application that you are using. Since it's never been a big problem for me to reassign a few buttons I never considered this option. All I needed was a Mod for my mouse driver. A Mod. I googled the keywords *logitech mouse options per-programme mod*. The page opened and about five links down I see the words *Awesome Mouse* in the title. Any relation perhaps? The link itself was a few years old, but it revealed the name of a Mod called UberOptions. One search later and I found a recent version that was compatable for my current driver. I installed it without any problem. Once I finished setting my new options for The Sims 3, I tried the game and it worked! Hope that helps.

Sounded more like a request to me. I am favourably inclined to this n00b currently, as the reply to Kiki was all win.
Which does not mean I will lock the thread, however. That happens only rarely at MATY and is generally instigated by the Boss.
You are indeed correct, it was a simple request. I felt it was appropriate to post one final time simply because you do not deserve to be ignored. I must admit that I chuckled when I read the other plebs post asking if I gave an order. As if. Once again, I thank the site for helping me.

Now I know with a name as heeeeelariuz as "duncandisorderly" that I may be answering my own question but I MUST ask - ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED? Why are you coming HERE for a PERIPHERALS PROBLEM? If you're having problems programming a PERIPHERAL to interact with TS3, GO TO THE MANUFACTURER.
I'm pleased that you think my name is heeeeelariuz. However, I suspect that while you were busy laughing at my name you overlooked to read my post properly. I clearly state that Logitech kindly sent me a generic macro reply suggesting I update my drivers. As a matter of fact, they also gave me links to so-called help sites I had previously found by myself. I've lurked on this site for quite a while now and it's quite clear to me that many (but not all) of the members have the skills, experience and maturity to possibly answer this unusual problem. It would be retarded for me not to post here asking when you consider I have tried practically everything to find a solution. Thank you for your reply, I hope you see the irony in it in the same way I have. As someone that has managed an OSS (Online Support Services) team before, I have to mock you for giving up at the first canned reply because that's not email support - it's a process (and a very successfull trimming the fat one at that you've fallen sucker to) to can at LEAST the first reply, if the customer has shown that they haven't completed adequate troubleshooting before contact. Most customers tend to be retarded enough not to perform even the basics before contact, so they don't get much further than the first canned reply because the canned reply will fix their problem. If you don't follow up and tell them their canned reply doesn't do shit, they're going to assume you're one of those muppets that didn't do it. To put it in perspective, a canned response is the email version of IT asking if you've got your PC plugged in, and if you've rebooted it recently. In future, if you want ACTUAL email support and yes this goes for ANY company you contact via email support, include links of your own in your email to them to show what you've already done before you send them in your "this doesn't werk weeeh" emails. If you put in the work to show that you're not a tard, 99% of the time you'll get the help and it will only include partial canned responses (aka your "thanks for your enquiry" entry and exit lines). I say 99% because every OSS team still has that one lazy fuck that does nothing but can. People come to MATY asking for hardware suggestions, or to ask if their hardware is capable enough or if it would be responsible for issues they've been experiencing in the game running like ass; note HARDWARE, note the part about their games running like ass. No one ever comes here to ask why their macro mouse or keyboard don't work because they've failed to even consider that TS3 may not have been built with macro peripherals in mind, ala WoW (the game doesn't even support SLI, why would it support macro keys?). If your game is working perfectly in terms of how it is designed to play, there's nothing here anyone can do to help you except to tell you to update your drivers or buy a new mouse. Thank you for your detailed reply, I expected nothing less. Obviously your area of expertise is in the art of complaining since you so eloquently explained the optimal way to achieve this. Unfortunately, I have no need for your advice. I regret that I'll never get the chance to try your cutting edge suggestion to write a follow up letter to Logitech. In actual fact, that was already something I was planning to do. Sorry. None of that matters now because I have found a solution to my problem. A truly Awesome member named rosess sent me a private message that forced me to inspect something I had overlooked and I was able to pinpoint my problem. I'm pretty confident that I understand the mindset of MATY. Clearly this site does not suffer fools gladly and I must admit I share that view. In future, may I suggest that you remember that there are other people on this site that are More Awesome Than YOU my dear kiki. With all due respect you have contributed nothing to this thread apart from your ego. I decided to post my question here because I trust this site to give me answers. MATY gave me my answer before Logitech did and Logitech had a head start! Thank you MATY for letting me play with your pleb! My problem is solved so feel free to close this thread.

You missed the point. The suspicion is that the control centre for logitec mice does not play nice for Sims. I used to have this problem with my old logitec mouse. If we're talking purely about the functions available through the control centre you may be screwed. Check for different versions of driver and control centre, but it may simply be that you are going to have to live with this problem.
You're correct, I did miss the point. Thank you for pointing it out to me. I have tried different versions of the driver with no luck. Looks like I'll have to live with it or buy a different mouse with the same functions. Much appreciated. Now I know with a name as heeeeelariuz as "duncandisorderly" that I may be answering my own question but I MUST ask - ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED? Why are you coming HERE for a PERIPHERALS PROBLEM? I'm using Logitech mouse too. My problem is that when I click the button wheel to tilt right and left, it doesn't work. I have the latest driver update. Surprisingly, it worked when I disabled the Logitech Mouse control center thing.
Sadly, it appears our problems are unrelated. For a start, I have no issues with my button wheel, my wheel doesn't even have the tilt click feature. My Logitech Mouse control center thing is called Set Point. Set Point has 5 sections; Button Settings (the section where I programme my keystrokes), Pointer Settings, Mouse Batteries, Orientation Settings and finally Game Settings. All my settings are correct. Disabling Set Point would only make matters worse for me because I would lose the ability to use the feature entirely. Thank you for your reply and I hope you resolve your problem.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Logitech TrackMan Keystroke Assignment Problem
|
on: 2010 December 15, 12:21:43

I have used a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan mouse for many years now. My current mouse is my third and works perfectly for every game/programme except The Sims 3.
In addition to the standard left click, right click and scroll wheel, there are 5 additional buttons. These buttons can be programmed in the options to use a specified keystroke assignment of your choice. Having the ability to undo (CTRL + Z), Delete, and rotate (, . keys) on the mouse is a handy feature I've come to depend on. These keystroke assignments worked in The Sims 2. When The Sims 3 was released, I had no issues. If memory serves me correctly, it was some time after World Adventures was released that my keystroke buttons stopped working. The problem didn't appear immediately after installing an expac. or a patch. Every other game I play has no issues and I still have the ability to use this feature. I've changed nothing in my options and my driver is up to date.
I'd like to add that I have been a good little lurker and made sure I searched the site and googled my ass off trying to find a solution before posting. EA Games and Logitech kindly sent me a generic macro reply suggesting I update my drivers. DUH!
Some Awesomeness would be appreciated please.
