Yes, that is normal.

Yes.

Yes what?

Should there be 1 or 2 resource.cfg files? I have one in the The Sims 3 folder and one in The Sims 3/Mods/Files folder?

Mootilda,

I've tried every which way possible to get this to work... with no success, so I am just going to remove all my downloads (again) and start from scratch. Thanks for your help.

I only have the one drive, so when I open command prompt, and it looks like this: C:\Documents and Settings\The Sims>
I should then insert a space (or no space?), then type: cd /c "C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads" (with or without quotes? I've tried it both ways) or
should I type it without the cd /c since it's already pointing to the c drive?

You have two options:
cd /d "C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads"
cd "C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads"

If you are already on the C: drive, the two lines above are basically identical.  You need the quotes around the path, because the path has embedded spaces.

The "/d" option means "go to the drive specified in the path that follows this option".  If you don't specify "/d", then it stays on the current drive.  In your case, the current drive is the drive that you want, so you can specify the option or not, whichever you want.

I hope that this makes sense.

Mootilda, please bear with me on this.

I tried to use your method by copy/paste of what you typed and it keeps coming up as the system cannot find the path specified. My files are located in the c drive, my documents, ea games, etc.

Is the cd/d part referring to my cdrom drive? Should there be any spaces in there?

There is a space between "cd" and "/d".  This isn't referring to your cdrom drive.  the "/d" option says: change to the specified drive; ie, if you have more than one drive, the command prompt might come up on a different drive than where you store your save games.  If you only have one drive (C:\), then you don't need the "/d" option.

Hi Mootilda<

I tried to use your method by copy/paste of what you typed and it keeps coming up as the system cannot find the path specified. My files are located in the c drive, my documents, ea games, etc.

Is the cd/d part referring to my cdrom drive? Should there be any spaces in there?

Dumb question: How do I check to see if there are read only files in the DL Folder? I use sub-foldering and I have a large amount of files. I don't want to look at the properties of each and every one.

Start / Run / cmd.exe
cd /d "C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads" (or whereever you have your saved games)
dir /ar-d /s /b

(list all files which are read-only and are not directories, traversing sub-directories, using full path names)

If there are too many for you to see, you can output the list to a text file:
dir /ar-d /s /b >ReadOnly.txt

[Update:]
Oops, I did it again.  I have a tendency to answer the question asked, rather than trying to solve the actual problem.

To change all read-only files to read-write:  Start / Run / cmd.exe / cd /d <your download directory> as above, then:
attrib -r *.package /s

(clear the read-only attribute from all package files in this directory and all subdirectories).

Error Log Attached

Edited to add: I've re-installed the game (once again) thanks for the help.
8  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Mystery Tiles on: 2007 August 06, 06:23:39
Jumping back is the sign of a reset, which is normally accompanied by an error log if you have debug mode on.

I don't have debug mode on, but I have noticed that whenever I use mon or soff there are some errors listed. Was the reset something I inadvertently set in motion and if so, how do I turn it off?

Edited to add: I've searched the forum and found that several different types of actions or hacks could cause a reset, including a game bug. So, I'm not sure which is causing my problem. I have the Seasons patch installed.

My sims plumbob also flashes off and on, is this because of the reset issue also?

Very nice decorating in the house though, it's the kind of look I often aim for but seldom achieve.

I wish I could take credit for it, but I can't. A friend of mine re-furbished (from a downloaded lot) and re-decorated it. It's a 4 story apartment complex with a hair/nail salon/boutique on the 1st level, empty apartment on 2nd level, living/dining/kitchen on 3rd level, bedroom/study/pool on 4th level (penthouse). When I saw it I just had to have it, I guess I'll have to live with the missing tile.

On another note, I don't know if it's the house or related to OFB or some hack I have. Whenever I have my sim "be cashier" or "ring up customers", she will ring up one customer and then "jump" back from the register then proceed to do something else. By the time I get her back to the register, her customers are so furious that they thrown down their shopping bags and leave the store.

I guess I've never seen a pool on an upper level before -- that just looks weird with the sim's head above water and her feet hanging down into the room below. Cheesy

I thought it was weird too, along with the fact that you can see straight through to the lower level (more amazing actually). The gardener also gets in and out of the pool to try and tend the the plants/bushes, she eventually gives up  Grin I'll be replacing them with some plastic ones.
11  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Mystery Tiles on: 2007 August 03, 16:59:08
I was able to get rid of the tiles on the front of the lot using the boolProp constrainFloorElevation false cheat, thank you AmberDiceless  Kiss

But I had no luck trying to place the missing tiles in the pool area using the stuck object remover.

This is the upper level

And this is the level below

What the hell is  that in the second pic?

I get that it's a pool, but what's it got inside it?

Nothing "inside" the pool, what you are seeing is the level below. It's a bookcase and fish tank.
13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Mystery Tiles on: 2007 August 03, 14:23:28
...Is there anything unusual above or below that tile on another floor?

The level underneath is the same and also missing a tile in the same spot. I will post a screen...
14  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Mystery Tiles on: 2007 August 03, 04:11:42
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these tiles?

And how to put a floor tile here? I've tried deleting all the tiles and re-tiling but still no go.

Here is a link to a wiki article about forcing lot installations....

http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:GCCTSU9

Thanks Khaki for that link, I should have checked here first before I spent the last couple of days uninstalling and reinstalling  Shocked. It still says that I have missing ep data, but at least know what to do from now on.

Edited: Because I quoted the wrong post  Grin
16  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Can't Install Lot File on: 2007 July 30, 00:59:07
There were files were in the teleport folder, 32 of them to be exact Huh I only tried to install two lots. I deleted them and installed once again and they're still not showing up.
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Can't Install Lot File on: 2007 July 29, 22:07:32
I've been trying to install a particular lot for three days now and it is not showing up in-game using clean installer. Using the default installer I got this message:

I have all ep's/sp's, so how would I go about figuring out which one is missing data? Would I need to do a complete re-install?
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Laptop Parts Question on: 2007 July 19, 20:17:38
Thanks.

I believe my first post may have been a bit misleading, as my original intention was to sell any salvageable parts on eBay, not use them in a new computer. However, with the information I have received from here I will check on purchasing a motherboard on eBay instead.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Laptop Parts Question on: 2007 July 19, 19:50:06
That's great news, as I was told by several people (including the geeks at Fry's electronics) that no one sells motherboards for laptops. I had the idea that I would refurbish it myself.

The specs on my laptop are:

Intel Pentium M Processor 725, 1.60GHz, 2MB L2 Cache
60 GB Hard Drive (Upgraded to 100GB)
512 MB Memory (Upgraded to 1 GB)
Video 32MB
DVD/CD Rom
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 Graphics (was able to play Sims 2 through Seasons)

I think these are all the things that matter.

I know it's practically a dinosaur, but it accomplished what I needed it to. Even though the Sims 2 plays a lot better on my desktop (especially since I just purchased a new graphics card), I enjoyed being able to take my Sims with me anywhere.

20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Laptop Parts Question on: 2007 July 19, 03:02:38
It's a S150, I believe it's about 2-3 years old. I've had it for 2 years. I believe I would rather get a new motherboard, as I don't really have the cash to purchase another new  one. I can take it apart and put it back together easily. About a month prior, I just put in new memory and a new hard drive. I had just received a new fan and I broke it while attempting to replace it (soldered in) by forcing it apart.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Laptop Parts Question on: 2007 July 18, 19:31:02
I sent my notebook to Sony for repair and they said that I needed a new motherboard, which costs $1400. I may as well get a new one for this amount.

My question is this: what parts are salvageable in the notebook other than the memory modules and the dvd/cd drive?

- are you more into building lots, decorating lots, creating sims, or playing families?

I hate building, decorating or creating sims. I play with game generated families.

Quote
- lots: do you play highly decorated, with walls up/cutaway, with a focus on 'whoever has the most toys wins"? Or do you play barely decorated, walls down, with a focus on interractions/spawning?

I only play with fully furnished houses that are in game or ones that I have downloaded, walls down, focusing on interactions.

Quote
- is genetics your thing? Do you like watching spawns, and spawns of spawns for how they turn out? Or do you barely get through one generation before you're off to the next family?

I play with one family until the existing youngest member has become an elder and then I'm off to the next family.

Quote
- do you build lots of hoods, or have you been playing one or two hoods forever?

In-game hoods only.

Quote
- in terms of what your sims do: are you into relationships and interractions, or are you more into how they skill and climb the corporate ladders?

Both, I do what it takes to keep their aspiration levels good. I also help them to the top of their careers.

Quote
- do you play lots of community lots, or are your sims homebodies?

All of my sims are homebodies (just like me). Too many sims in one place makes me crazy.

Quote
-city/country/suburban?

Wherever they already reside

Quote
- do you do themes? (aliens, medieval, Victorian)

Never.

Quote
- do you play with pets?

Only if it is one of their wants, but most of the time no.

Quote
- do you do the vamp/werewolf/alien/zombie thing, or are you more a 'real person' player?

No, though I did play with the plantsim family just so that I could make them normal (wanted to see what they looked like).

Quote
- hacks: do you like to make life simpler or harder? insim? inteen?

I was previously playing with all of the "no autonomous" hacks I could find, but then my sims wouldn't do anything on their own (like take care of their needs) and I hate micro-managing them (I like to leave my game running while I'm sleeping and not wake up and find them dead). Now, I only use The Director's cut, Monique's computer,  no bringing anyone home from school/work hacks, auto do homework and gardening.

Quote
-custom content: lots or a little? what do you have the most of?

A Little, though I have over 20,000 (ridiculous load time) custom objects, I tend to put only the "hacked" objects in my game.

Quote
- and finally, if you share your creations...what do you create?

I don't create anything.

As you can see, the way I play is quite bland. So occasionally, I will do challenges, which I almost never submit.

i think the thought bubble looks like the "need social" one? if she doesn't have a gold gardening badge she cant talk to plants  Tongue

Yep, you are absolutely correct! I guess I should get Alexander graduated soon.

24  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Plant Sim on: 2007 July 17, 18:09:06
Did you choose that indoor plant as the model of an InSimenator adjuster?

If so, try removing all InSim adjusters in the lot, and reload it again (I'm not sure it will work, but I remember having seen that before Wink )

Yes! That was the problem. I am using the plant as a motive adjuster.

Edit:
In response to your edit - I download just about everything, but I don't use a lot of hacks in game and I haven't modified anything. So when you mentioned the InSimenator, it just seemed to be right on the money. I took the file out of my downloads folder, restarted and everything was back to normal. But I still wonder what made my sim this way in the first place... odd.

Since your sim seems aware of his condition, I'm now wondering if it's why my sim seemed to be frustrated. I couldn't tell what was in her thought bubble.
25  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Plant Sim on: 2007 July 17, 18:06:48
When you used "moveObjects on," did you delete the plant or simply move it?  If you didn't delete, might want to try.

I grabbed hold of the plant and then hit the delete key. The sim and the plant both vanished.
