1  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod Bug Report Thread on: 2012 January 30, 00:04:20
I had a strange problem.  I don't know if it was caused by Awesome mod or a combination of Awesome mod and something else.  That something else most likely would be one of Twallan's mods, since I have them all installed.

My family consists of a second generation sim and her Invisible Friend who was turned into a visible friend using a potion.  They have two cats.  They also have twin daughters.  The daughters aged up from toddlers to children.  However, the next day, the kids were not going off to school.  I clicked on the button to send them to school and got a message there were no schools in town.  I was using a pretty straight Apaloosa Springs.  The only changes to the town were my McDonald's restaurant (a rabbithole), and a house I built for another family.

When I removed Awesomemod, the problem went away, and the kids went to school.  Since it solved the problem, I did not experiment further.

I'm having something similar with normal children in a custom hood, and I'm starting to wonder if it's that rabbit hole itself that AM (or whatever is causing it) has a problem with. It doesn't appear to be registering as a real school. I'm running a two-school system, and I replaced my fully functional 12-only rabbit hole with the Crestview building (Apaloosa's school/stadium). I attempted an enrollall 12 and received the message, "Cannot resolve with 0 schools on lot." (And yes, I attempted this on the school's lot. I'm stupid, but I'm not that stupid.) I can't manually enroll my teens into that school either, their only options are "pull prank" and "painting class" so I can't even enroll them individually.

Removing the offending building and replacing it with a stand-alone school rabbit hole fixes the issue. Except for the part where I want to use the combo rabbit hole. I have No Automatic School enabled by default, but turning it off doesn't seem to make a difference. I also use several Twallan mods, like the above. Twallen's school mod only gives me the option to enroll in the non-offending school.

This issue is reproduce-able in other hoods. Thoughts? Anybody else getting this result?
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Merging mods to increase Performance! on: 2010 July 14, 10:50:17
Just wanted to let people know, in case there are any idiots (like me) reading who want to remove files from their merged package and don't have a backup. (I know, I know, but it's also useful for people who don't feel like re-merging just to remove a couple files they don't want anymore, as it's significantly faster.) I just successfully used Sims 3 Package Explorer to re-save my patterns package without 14 files I didn't want. It was incredibly easy, and rather self-explanatory. The entire process took me about five minutes (or less, once I figured it out).

Unfortunately, this only works this easily with patterns. My other merged packages were way too hard (for me) to sort through, though someone more awesome than me (ha!) may figure it out. Nevertheless, it's a good starting point.

Tutorial for the Non-Awesome (Like Me)
1. Obviously, backup the file you're messing around in.
2. Start the Package Explorer and open the package you want to edit.
3. You will see a list of files and a preview window. You can identify individual objects/patterns, etc. in several ways, but the easiest for me was by image (because, y'know, then I knew what I was looking at). It is easiest to pick out individual items if you do NOT sort the list - leave it the way it is.
4. Under the drop-down menu in the preview window, choose "image".
5. Click an Icon, any Icon (you'll see them identified under "type").
6. You will notice that immediately before or after the icon in the list, there will be three other files which share either the same full Id, or the same first 10 characters of the Id as the Icon. This is the rest of the file that makes up the item (obviously).
7. Select (highlight) all items you want to keep (which, depending on how many packages you have, may take a while). This means all four files of each item.
8. With your items selected, go to "Edit->Copy".
9. Click the "create new package" button (it's the little sheet of paper in the left-hand corner, just like MS Word).
10. Go to "Edit->Paste".
11. Save your new package and test it out in-game to make sure you've removed/saved all you intended.

That's it. It's that simple. Again though, this only worked because my patterns were in a merged package by themselves and were kind enough to be sorted for me. If anyone has improvements on this technique for other types of content, have at it!

Edit: Fixed some minor spelling and grammar errors (including a very irritating "to" that should have been a "too"), because I wrote this at 3am.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Mailbox no longer affects lot thumbnail on: 2010 February 08, 03:22:21
Okay, tl;dr version: The lot thumbnails in my game used to work correctly. Enter the lot, rotate the mailbox, exit the lot, the thumbnail has rotated. Now they don't.

I have a retail, registered, non-arr'd version of the game. I am patched up to 1.8 and do not have WA. I have Riverview. I have CAW installed and am using it regularly, but although I'm fuzzy on the timeline I know for sure the problem pre-dates the 1.8 patch (mostly because one of the reasons I finally patched was just in case it might, somehow, fix the problem). I'm running Windows XP on a PC which usually runs Sims 3 smoothly and with no issues. I don't know if system specs are relevant, but if so I will provide them.

Long version:
At some point, I do not know exactly when, but suspect it was around patch 1.5 or so, lot thumbnails in my game became static. Meaning, old lot thumbnails (from lots built before the problem began) do not change from their current angle which have had the mailbox rotated, and newly built lots are all from the same angle and do not ever change. (Originally I thought the older thumbnails didn't change. I was wrong. They change all right - to the same rotation as the new lots, no matter what the mailbox angle. It's as if the game is taking all lot thumbnails from a fixed point and does not recognize any other angles as valid.)  I know that the thumbnails are actually updating, because if I make visible changes on the lot they will appear in the thumbnail immediately. This happens in all neighborhoods, including the one I am currently building.

I have been troubleshooting this issue for weeks. I have saved my game and tried it. I have used a backup and tried it. I have restarted my computer and tried it. I have removed all CC except hacks and tried it. I have removed all CC including hacks and tried it. I have removed my library and tried it. I have deleted all my caches, with my CC removed, and tried it. As far as I can tell, this is a problem I seem to be having with the plain, patched, base game. The one thing I have not tried is re-installing the whole game, mostly because I am lazy. If I don't get any new info on the problem, I'm trying that next. Okay, between the time I first posted this and now (a couple hours later), I went ahead and uninstalled/reinstalled, and I have confirmed - this is a patched base game problem. I reinstalled, tested a new neighborhood on a default family, and the lot thumbnail rotated fine. I then patched from base game up to 1.8 and tested again - the lot thumbnail system is now as broken as ever. I find it weird that in all the complaints about patch problems, nobody mentioned this particular issue. Which makes me still think there's something wrong with my setup or something I'm doing differently. I didn't try to patch and test from base game up, patch by patch sequentially in order to isolate the problem, because that would take forever and I have sleeping to do.

(There used to be an explanation of my CC here, but I have confirmed this is NOT a CC issue at all, so it's irrelevant now.)

I have searched Google. I have searched Mod the Sims. I have searched MATY. I have searched the Livejournal communities. I have found zero reports of this. Actually, when I search the only thing that comes up is the now obnoxious statement that rotating the mailbox determines your lot thumbnail, to which I *headdesk* a great deal because it doesn't anymore. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I seriously the only member of the entire Sims 3 community who is experiencing this?

I have a long history of troubleshooting and fixing Sims problems by myself with no issues, so I've actually waited a really long time to ask for help at all, mainly because it's embarrassing that I can't figure it out. I am very familiar with the Sims 2 and 3 troubleshooting process. This is the first time an issue has stumped me. Please, someone tell me I'm missing something glaringly obvious. Or at least confirm my suspicion that EAxis sucks and it's their fault.
