TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: White loading screen and missing menu strings after patch 1.55

Thank you Utterly Unzipped and uknortherner for replying (and bumping the topic). After eight times of completely reinstalling the game in full, carefully following the installation instructions given by Games4theworld, who have very recently made a fix that addresses the newest patch, I have given up hope that it was perhaps something I'm doing wrong myself. I remember once messing with the .sgr files, back when i had gtx 460. But I don't remember how I managed to fix it (necessary disclaimer, I have serious memory issues). Looking at the lines, I can't quite distinguish where would my card fit at the moment, while the device ID is a set of numbers ctrl+f isn't finding in DeviceConfig.log at all. I would very much appreciate some help on the matter if anyone has the will and time to give a few guidelines. Dxdiag info attached to this post, if it's of any use. Thank you in advance! [mini edit, since I just realized that I haven't answered the question] My gpu is the newest addition to the pc. The rest of it is of various age. I have manually been deleting registry files upon every uninstallation, and cache files every time I've closed the game. Secondly, what I've noticed is that the in-game console is fully functional. Didn't manage to do anything useful with it (as in, enter the neighbourhood), but it could be a useful information. STOP THE PRESS!Removing awesome.package makes the game playable. But a question remains - is a game without awesomemod really worth playing? (and how does everyone else pass it with 1.55, since I've read a thing or two saying that there are no major issues)

Here's an update. A discovery, if you will. After installing a newer stuff pack directly onto the base game (to avoid update times), the loading screen got messed up again, and the text on the menu was gone. Uninstalling the stuff pack didn't fix the issue, so I need to reinstall the base game yet again.
Thank you for the reply, Skoria_bay, I will definitely do as you've suggested.
[Edit which i sure hope will be noticed]
Reinstalled everything and still no menu strings. The loading screen is fine now though, the colour misbehaving could have been caused by the latest patch.
Not sure if this has anything to do with the base game complaining that it cannot recognize my graphics card. It didn't exist back when the base game had it's list of supported written, but it's supported. First two times, I've set the resolution to native upon first launch, but this third time I've skipped that step and proceeded installing EP-s. Now, alongside menus being blank, I also have a stretched screen and blurry graphics. The joy.
What exactly does cause the text to disappear?
[Edit 2, though it seems pointless as it's unlikely anyone will bump into this topic again]
Tried uninstalling expansion by expansion, stuff pack by stuff pack. Got back to the base game, but the problem is still there. Installed the 1.55 patch to see if there's any difference. There was none. Now, for my lucky seventh time, I will try installing the base game (which alone works fine) and update it to 1.55 to see if the patch itself hates me, or just a certain combination of expansions I plan on having installed. What a good way to waste a week.

After a couple of years, I've decided to stop the painful rehab and reinstall TS3. Due to past mistakes, I have been installing one expansion at a time and testing if the game launches properly after each. After all seemed fine, I've decided to make a leap of faith and patch to 1.55. A mistake I will not repeat any time soon. Mods I currently have installed (for testing purposes alone) are awesomemod and nointro. Removing them doesn't influence this issue the slightest. Googling brought me to several similar problems, most of them including the uncanny white loading screen. However, most of them solved the issue by a clean reinstall. As reverting to older patches is not that simple, I have tried reinstalling the last three expansion packs to see if it would make a difference. It didn't. What I would love to know is whether a complete reinstall is absolutely necessary, or if there's perhaps something obvious that I'm missing. [EDIT] Well, this happens when all but the stuff packs remain

Started new game in a new world, no issue at all. Started new game in the same world the issue came up in, issue gone. Called for butler by the same family, on the same lot (playing with pre-mades finally paid off), butler came solo. He even called a maid shortly after, who arrived and did her doing. Problem seems to be completely gone.
The only thing differing from the time the whole thing started is the colour of the house and two swings in the back yard. Seems unimportant, but mentioning just in case.
I don't know, perhaps my game is a special snowflake of some sort. Every single problem it had was either left unsolved or magically disappeared.

WELL, if i had better connection last night, i would have seen sarsbar 's suggestion, alas, being blessed with a horrible provider and, well, weak nerves, I have deleted the whole neighbourhood instead. Started a new one though, from zero (obligatory destroyallhumans). There's no npc issues yet (tested on firemen, maids, police, pizza service and adoption service), but I'll think five times before ordering a butler again. Will update this thread with results.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

Thank you, PA, for your reply. Here's the thing, as long as the butler is being called, they will keep arriving. Now, without deleting the sim that made the call (tried resetting numerous times), i can't really influence this action. And there's nothing wrong with this sim (if leave out the whole butler apocalypse attached to her), so it would be a shame to delete her.
This also might be informative. Setting the hoard on fire resulted in fire on the edge of the lot, which caught up on a tree and eventually the house. The fire alarm went off quickly, but, the firemen didn't seem interested. After a certain amount of time, the active sim phoned the fire department and, after the usual notification, a great big bunch of nothing came to the rescue. In the meantime, butlers kept arriving. Possible npc issue in general?

Indeed, I have, Starler, and, as well as yourself, I am very surprised.
Here's an update on this issue; after finally managing to socialize with one of them, requesting a massage, I have nuked him. This action caused all of the other butlers to disappear from the mentioned spot and start arriving by infinite cars.
I'm just going to start a new game and leave this until somebody finds a solution. If there is one.

Twallan's MasterController has an option to reset a lot. I had a problem with sims "sticking" to a lot (congregating and then just standing there until they died, literally) and resetting the lot worked.
Alternatively, have you tried a "resetsim *" to reset the whole hood?
Resetting the sim made no change, and neither did resetting the lot, for they're all spawning outside of it (although i did try). I've actually dropped a meteor on them, but it fell on the furthermost edge of the lot, or, more precisely, it's radius ended just a step away from the butlers. Soon they all started puking and peeing all over the place and stressing out.
You have no idea how much i laughed at this. Unfortunately, I refuse to load up a previous save because I have that horrible feeling that there's still hope for this one. Thanks anyway.

...in front of the house. And they keep multiplying. I was actually ready to turn a blind eye on them before they caused some horrible lag issues. Nuking removed 215 objects, which started regenerating on the same spot right after un-pausing the game. Now, the current sim can't even approach to one of them and try to fire him (sadly, you can't cancel this type of service through the phone), because the majority of them are in fact one inside another, sharing the same spot. What to do?

Who said you had to give money to Microsoft? Windoze 7 is far better than Vista, and you are doing yourself a great disservice by holding on to that piece of crap.
Who said I'm giving money to Microsoft? Yes, I'm aware of your point, but, there's a masochist in all of us and some are just unable to resist it's influence. Back on topic, I haven't yet found a solution to the card overheating and will continue using the household fan for the time being. If, however, I manage to resolve this problem, I will come back and edit this post.Kicked up the fan speed to 85% and the problem was killed. Now it even cools my feet at these warm summer nights, ahhh.

Edit, because I'm an idiot: fps shown in game is about 30-something, after forced down by f11. Card temperature stays the same. Why would you boycott Windoze 7 for Vista? 7 is so much better than Vista, but it does have it's issues, which are not that problematic. At least I haven't found them that problematic, but others have. Because Microsoft is the source of all evil? Besides, i still remember the moment Vista had bedazzled me with it's fabulous gui. I am aware I'll have to convert to w7 in the end/near future, but allow me to live of the memory for just a little longer. As for the issues, I'm sure there's nothing strong will can't handle.

Indeed it's not a framework issue. Doubleclicking 3Booter to run the game, yes. I'm currently running some other games to check the previous assumption that the game itself is the issue. Unfortunately I'm forced to admit I'm running on Vista. Haven't tested it on w7, because I'm still on a boycott against it (and there's no way i could infest my precious kubuntu with games), so it just may be an issue, even though i don't see why/how. Thank you for replying.

Good chance I'm pointlessly kicking the topic again, but, I have noticed that f10-ing ingame does not turn the greenery on. Command "fps on" brings out the regular white numbers, which can be lowered down by pressing f11. This, however does not affect the card's ridiculous temperature. After giving up on the stripped version, I've reverted to the old-school FPS Limiter. Not so surprisingly, nothing happened. To add, the overheating is solely caused by this particular game (it even cools down when the window is minimized). If it's not the rendering speed, I don't know what is. To be honest, there's not much else to cause such malfunction.

Thank you for your reply, wizard_merlin. After some searching, Google results have directed me to this thread. Now Medieval-enabled.
The replies consist of complaints, however, none of them is exclusively talking of the limiter's primary task. In fact, it has been said that, when it comes to cutting down the fps, it's doing the job. I shall redo everything, as suggested, just after i finish a couple of quests.

Probably needed to put more info. I am well aware of how this particular set of files works, being that I've went through activating them several times on different machines. I am also aware how the mistake being made is my own, and went through this whole thread a couple of times already. Anyway, when it comes to The Sims Medieval, no matter where the files are located, the graphics card is overheating (rendering at about 120 frames at average). Could it be something other in question? Other than the wrong installation location?

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Music stops playing
|
on: 2011 April 04, 17:16:17

In neighbourhood view and in cas, the music plays only a single piece, while in build/buy mode it doesn't play at all. If the music is forced by clicking the 'play' button in the music section of the options menu, it starts playing again, but still, only one piece before stopping. Not a serious issue, but it does get annoying.

so, if one wanted to say...create a rabbithole.....how exactly would you start? I mean, ok I understand xml hacks and basic object mods and the theory of injecting actions (even though I haven't needed to yet) but it would be cool if we could create rabbitholes a-la the rabbithole rugs maybe for form (and simplicity) but then imagine the possibilites! I've always wanted my sims to visit a cathedral and maybe come out with the zen moodlet or the rellaxed moodlet or maybe they can work as a factory drone in the underground evil genius lab and come out 'creedped out' after work. if we can create rabbitholes somehow....the possiblities! so, if anyone has any ideas....or would like to make one...much appreciated.
Google perhaps? Jynx made a Custom Rabbit Hole Collection.

The relevance is that it becomes impossible to diagnose, let alone fix a problem, when the person with the problem is convinced they did everything right. What happens is that when they are asked about something, they blindly reply that everything is right, without actually checking properly, or at all, because they are so convinced in their own little mind that everything is RIGHT and that checking is a waste of time because they believe it is RIGHT.
True, yet if it wasn't for that annoying little fact, a lot of repairmen would be left without a job. Sadly, i must declare that i am a pretty serious person when it comes to gaming, so i assure you, even though you have only my word for it, i indeed did check everything twice. Another thank you for imyourboy. Replacing the dcCache folder with my previous one made some files appear. I'm supposing they are from the Store.

If you are talking about the downloads folder for store items that will not show up by just placing the items from the old downloads folder to the new one. You would actually have to have the dcCache folder from your old install. Then all of your old store items will show up. If you are strictly talking about the Mods folder those should not have to be "installed".
This could be the issue. What a crock of shit. If this were true everything would be WORKING. Why does everyone say this when they have a problem, thus making it nearly impossible to fix because they won't consider that they fucked up.
I'm not sure how that implication is of any relevance to this topic.
