1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Three-story house with major complications. on: 2008 June 18, 10:24:52
I too appreciate all the suggestions and instructions. A long time ago I built a house for the "me" Sim into a hillside, with a garage alongside and the main living room directly above, the thing is I somehow used walls for the garage and then foundation for the house? I have no clue how I made them connect and work, I have a hazy memory of repeatedly counting to drag the ground level up so that it was level with the garage walls and using loads of swear words.  I often go back to that house to see if I can figure out how I did it but until today have had no luck. The above tutorial has helped so thanks.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will real parties ever be possible? on: 2007 July 23, 01:22:02
Oh my God! I forgot how cool parties could be in the Sims1. The stripper cake? The other stuff? LMFAO! Oh Yeah! Good times; bad animations and guests; Death to all mimes…
 .

Soylent sim- Yeah, a party isn't a party without being shitfaced if you are a biker like me, but that's not what I asked for, I asked for a compromise. I like your ideas concerning matching personality to booze intake, that way it would reflect real life a little better. But there is a limit what can be hacked so that's ok, I just wondered if I had missed a golden party opportunity.  I'm not keen on just text to make it more real, so I will go with what I have and remember with fondness the Sim1 parties that I was quite good at.

A community lot only item sounds good and kid/ teen restrictions too (I'm a parent ok, do as I say not as I do until you leave and wash your own socks).  Tongue

"Sim-intoxication is something much more extensive than what is really practical to do. But you're welcome to settle for the half-assed approaches of the non-Awesome, if that's what you wish"

Hell, no-one wants half-assed awesomeness that's why we are here. If Stupid Maxis/EAgames are too scared to allow a Sim1 type party the so be it, but I think it was worth asking if there is/was a chance someone out here could make it an awesome possibility.

"As it stands, I do not think letting them get drunk on community lots and start flirting with everything in sight is a good plan."
If you were me you would see the beauty of this, I need a kick up the ass to make this game more interesting, and random flirting and marriage proposals (as has been mentioned ) sounds like a challenge to me, (says I with my Romance mod firmly in place...see what I mean?)   Grin

The Sims1; Game, a game barely alive…People we can re-build it, we have the technology, we have the capability to make the World's first believable game. The Sims2 will be that Game; better than it was before, better, stronger, faster, (cue Sims video and insert fantasy of choice here) cue dramatic closing music…

"But as it is, you can't even direct a Sim to clean up the plates on the SS lots"

I do/did this all the time? Err haven't done for a while now but I have defiantly used a spare SS member to clean this way a lot and it's worked ok? Is this a Seasons thing? Drat.

Cute things…Romance Sims (and others) walking past each other when shopping doing that "Call me!" thing, pointing and mimicking making a call with their hands.

Award for Best Autonomous Action- at a nightclub 8 Sims began dancing the Smusel (?) in time with each other! Better…the songs playing were The Adams Groove, MC Hammer followed by Scoobydoo- The Mystery Mix Techno! Yeah I have a whacked sense of humour but I was very amused by this and wished to God I'd put in Thriller by Wacko in as well!

Award for best coincidence goes to my granddaughters wedding music, A Whiter Shade of Pale, Procol Harum, I forgot I left the rock option on but it was perfect. Smiley
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 22, 23:11:13
When I first started to play I tried all the aspirations, I found my favourite to be knowledge Sims. As it's been mentioned they want easy things (knowledge which kills time and makes money), plus they are great parents, always wanting to teach the toddlers skills, get them into private school, high marks etc. In fact I start all my kids off this way and then watch while are at Uni to see how they act and adjust them accordingly. Also they make great husbands or wives or even partners, they roll whoo hoo wants and all the romance stuff like Romance Sims if you nudge them a bit and they are maxed on skills and jobs, in fact they roll all the wants when I think about it from a microwave to a good harvest.. Easy Peasy…hee hee!

But then I got interested in Romance Sims, I even designed a whole beautiful water neighbourhood for them. I meticulously designed them outside the game maxing all the ‘stun on sight genes', I built purpose made nightclubs, restaurants and shops for them including gift and flower shops (which coincidently boosted my own Sim into being a millionaire through the sale of expensive perfume, flowers, gifts and food), downloaded lots of ‘on the pull kit' Pes's Romance mod and… then I let them loose…  Shocked

Oh my! I had the time of my life! And so did they of course. They do autonomously make out when downtown or just shopping when I'm not controlling them, making them amusing to watch all the time. I don't have any fights with the mod in place and they stay to bonking each other rather than the other aspirations, (although I have a fortune Sim, daughter of the furniture shop guy in Bluewater,) who is head over heels with a Romance Sims she *cough* met *cough* at a collage party…could be interesting I guess).

The majority are getting a little old now even with the constant use of the magic anti aging serum and I'm thinking about letting them have some beautiful children to breath some fresh genes into the favourite main hood (their hood is a downtown), a couple of them have had babies; Two girls and they are great parents and behave around the kids even though they don't live with the father/mother of the children. My only worry is letting them age and die, they are all so damn rich who is going to waste money in my chain of shops?

Conclusion is it's a tie between Romance and knowledge Sims, I would describe myself as knowledge Sim and in real life these two personalities are at odds, but this game and the couple of mods I have to balance it out make them the most enjoyable Sims to play. I agree about the pleasure Sims I think friendship and loafing should be their diet not aping Romance Sims then jumping on the couch to celebrate…Get serious guys! Loafing and pleasure need planning and money; forget the bubbles and coffee get a great job and start to screw everyone around you like a politician or movie star!  Grin

Oh thanks for the info about the 50 dates, I do have a crazy pleasure Sim who has this want I had every intention of re-rolling (to grilled cheese I was feeling mean) as she is happy with a guy, but now she can party till she is platinum.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will real parties ever be possible? on: 2007 July 17, 01:17:36
Thanks to both of you for your replies.

I guessed that there was nothing connected to the bar that could change behaviour, however small. I think I will give the beer keg at Simslice  a miss, a I don't fancy any horrendous parent/sibling interactions.  Sad

The MTS2 link sounds interesting and thanks for the info.

I guess I miss the bar the Sims1 had, they would have a drink and hiccup, harmless but it made me smile anyway…I don't have any Sims in my game that would take to drink for any reason, (they are nearly all knowledge Sims on the main neighbourhood with a few family Sims to annoy me) I play too restrained for that…damn! I have a few Romance Sims living on a Nightlife NH that could be excused a beer or two considering their hectic lifestyle…

It's odd that we have the power to torment and kill but not to down a couple of beers and giggle and flirt? I know real life is a lot different but this is nothing more than a game and booze and humans (along with a lot of other mammals) have a history with the ripe fruit. A little giggling and flirting and maybe singing would be a lot of fun. (As it is a game the power to annihilate the larger lout through code would be welcome.)

Thanks again for the links and information.  Grin
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims Keep Stealing my Dog's Food! on: 2007 July 16, 20:08:39
You obviously haven't played those infernal Crittur dogs. If it weren't for 'controlPets on' (or whatever that cheat-code is), the damn things would have starved. I did have my sims train them toward petfood, but it took a LONG time, and until the training-bar goes from red to green, any pet will refuse a particular activity.

Thank you I had no idea that code exsisted! saved... Grin

I have a question, I know you guys generally fix things and I could go to non-awesome site but his one is the best so I'm guessing I will get an answer instead of a- "I don't know, maybe you should try Maty?"

For a long time I've been playing nightclubs and finally I'm fed-up with the fighting and bitching and LACK of alcohol. It would make more sense if their obnoxious behaviour could be put down to a couple of beers, but juice? (Or maybe it's the prohibition that pisses them off who knows?).

So my question is how does the bar affect the drinking Sims if at all? A long time ago I read in thread elsewhere that someone had moused over the picture while her Sim was at the bar and the message read "getting drunk". But no matter how many times I try this or how long they sit there all I get is "having a drink" and a desperate need to run to the bathroom.

If the answer is, it has no affect at all, can that be changed? I'm not talking about falling down lashed, although that would be funny to watch; I just think it would make more sense and be more realistic if they at least attempted to flirt or something after a couple of drinks at the bar.
Oh while I think of it, does the champagne (used for toasting and parties) have any effect, after all that is alcohol? I always forget about it but I'm hoping someone may use it and have an insight into its effects.

Thanks.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Third Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 21, 09:50:36
And I guarantee that the creators of these mods do not test their code as much as we do before releasing them to the world. Of course, I look like a real idiot for saying that right about now, but ignoring our "crying baby screwup" for a moment...

Ok, what I know about the code for this game is exactly zero…but that said when it's wrong it's well…wrong. Pes has said—

—"Fixes the biotech station medicine so that it will actually work. It was previously broken"
—and again—
"This is the most strangulated and awful piece of Maxian code I have ever seen anyone write. Whoever wrote this is without honour and needs to be taken out back and shot. I really should have just rewritten it from scratch rather than trying to fix it."

Why then do the creators not see this? Yes Mr MaxoidSam you do look like a dickhead but I suspect its' become part of the job description at EA Games. I for one would never load anything from this company without coming here first, nor will I ever buy any other game from them, I have enough grey hair as it is.  Roll Eyes

As for H&M? Well my experience of this shop is, 12 year old shop assistants with an orange tan chewing gum ignoring that most of the merchandise is actually on the floor, then after I've found that damn top/thingy for my daughter trying to sell me a storecard with an interest rate that will eventually lead me to owing them an amount that equals the national debt…When I combine the psychological impression of the real life shop with the EA bugs I find that I have no urge to add more stress to an already crowded game experience. A little harsh of me perhaps but I think I'll sit this one out.

10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 05, 09:36:18
Floopyboo, thank you hadn't thought about that, pretty maxis males are very rare Grin

Jordi, thanks for the info, its a shame really as behaviour can be coded into DNA in real life, (Evolution; survival of those who learn adapt and all that…not that streaking has any survival value whatsoever) Grin

Never mind I'm sure I would be fed-up with it inside a couple of days anyway.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 05, 08:37:52
The driver in my game is gorgeous, and I have often wondered how I could get one of my females to meet him as I have a real lack of decent male DNA (lookswise anyway); but now I know this is bad, so thanks.

I have also always wondered if the Sims with hardcoded behaviour traits (like the streaker) pass the traits on if they do get the chance to produce offspring? Although I have no interest in most of the behaviours (such as the type of insanity the nannies show and the just plain weird jumping about by the cheerleaders, and the cow? I can't go there…) it has occurred to me that random streaking would be amusing.

13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Restaurant Problems on: 2007 May 23, 09:51:26
I have custom bars and restaurants for dates and stuff and nothing really ever goes wrong at these places, but a couple of days ago on a whim I took a couple to a maxis place, and had the disappearing plates, stuff dropping out of the queue and a general cock-up all around (thank god for cheats and the fact I am a master at dating). So I'm wondering if it's the maxis lots that could hold some of the blame. Huh

Thanks for heads up on the candles I will remove them forthwith.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The eternal search... on: 2007 May 17, 15:54:47
I use Navetseas' defaults and I like them a lot, the only thing I would change is the faces, they are a little too pale. I am happy with maxis choice of face types when I choose them but I am not so keen on my defaults giving me a custom type face; but whatever, until I learn to do it myself I am happy to use these and other skins and am very grateful that the creators share.

I use these by Knightskykyte Non-shiny and better colour than Maxis. My only gripe is the elders have smooth-skinned faces, but I usually put wrinkles on them to combat this.

After reading the very annoying rant from the creator of those, I'm going to put nipples and hair on them just to spite him!   Cheesy

I'm with you on that one. Jeez.

As for Knightskykyte? Wow! We can put tattoos and scars on them but not nipples and pubic hair? How strangely deranged…the men have nipples? To me tattoos and scars are urghhh!! But nipples and hair are what we are born with. And surely nipples on females and hair could be classed as ‘changes in skin tone? (As are piercing and male body hair which are allowed in abundance?)  Come on, they aren't real after all. Tongue
15  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Fishing & Harvesting Fix on: 2007 May 17, 13:49:59
I think it's only employees that do an auto harvest - I was helping test that, I haven't played that hood recently but I'm sure townies/customers wouldn't start harvesting, it doesn't make sense.

Granted, but before JP fixed it they harvested the money trees Roll Eyes

Like MadamUlgy Not sure if I should fix this or not...But thanks for the choice Oh Awesome one.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for? on: 2007 March 31, 11:08:01
I should have realised that as a gardener, if there is water in a greenhouse (like Kew Gardens in London) the mean temperature is always higher and more stable, they nearly lost their orchids by forgetting this and draining the indoor pool. Plus my garden has a huge pool and in the summer it's always warmer and more humid in my garden than my friends even if the night is chilly.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Holiday Cabin on: 2007 March 31, 09:15:55
I guess most here have already tried owning a second home but yesterday I tested something I had been meaning to for ages. I wanted My Sims to be able to own a holiday home without all the usual daily hassle of checking in with business and phoning people all the time, as age doesn't happen at University I thought a house from that Neighbourhood was worth a try.

So I built a cabin on the University neighbourhood and then dropped it down in Bluewater Village, bought it and set off to test it. I left the House on the 2nd day of spring; during the 2 weeks my Sims spent there this didn't change, although the days of week continued as normal the season remained static. They didn't age at all, but the thing is I can't remember if they age while they are running a business or not? (I know that they don't loose days while they are there I just can't remember if they get days add to their age that they keep when they return.) These Sims are millionaires and no longer have to do anything but call in every night to their 4 places so it could be the University effect or it could be just what happens.

The usual stuff like any fish caught went into the owners' inventory, there was no ‘try for a baby' on the hot tub or the bed (I used Squinges' sleep on community lots hack-find at the Insiminator site), the hot tub was from the rewards and did work but the warmthfix had no effect they still overheated very quickly?  All the rewards seem to be available but as they were not needed I didn't test any of the others. As I locked the doors to everyone but the household the sprinkler over the cooker was a great idea…Only a couple of people rang to bother them the whole time they were there which was good and the relationships didn't appear to suffer like they do normally so after 3 days I stopped calling and just enjoyed myself, also checking in with a business was a waste of time leaving more time to relax. Oh I used 2jeffs visitor controller to ensure they were not bothered at all, and ran in boolprop testingcheatsenabled true (handy for not washing the dogs) and had no errors at all.

In all I'm uncertain if the University house is effecting the way they age or the seasons so I think I'd better get my butt down to one of the other business's and check out how time passes. But it's true what they say a holiday is a great routine buster. As these two own 4 business's and grow their own food and have a shedload of mates their lives had become pretty boring, but on this new lot I let them do what they wanted and had great fun, also because this was a holiday cabin I didn't have loads of custom content in it to slow the playing down so even though it is a big lot it ran like silk..

I gave them a pool table, something I don't usually do so was amused when he hustled her at pool and she hung her head when she realised. They swam naked and played marco polo at 3am, I put a radio in the kitchen a stereo in the living area and outside and watched as they danced their way through 2 weeks LOL. The water balloon fight was also amusing to watch when they don't have something else to do, they caught fireflies and played fetch with the dogs, did yoga while listening to classical music; it was a real holiday and I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be doing it again soon. In fact I want to make a beach sub hood and see how that would work out.

As I have loads of stuff from here that makes this game worth playing I wanted to give something back, and as I can't hack or make things I thought maybe an idea might be better than nothing, so if this has stirred an imagination great, enjoy.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for? on: 2007 March 31, 09:12:30
Agreed! I also have guests swimming at night while there is 3 feet of snow on the ground Huh
Well, they get around that by saying the pools are always heated. Smiley  But yea, the sims would get pretty cold running from the pool to the house in their bathing suits...
I know this from personal experience...on my honeymoon at the end of February in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Shocked  It was warm in the pool and the pool was inside, but we had to run outside all the way to our "room" (it was a train made into a hotel with each room one end of a train car.)  It had been rather nice during the day, but at night it gets chilly up in the mountains.

You have a point, the pool was always warm in Spain even at night when it was chilly. I did wonder if they would freeze to death as they oftan stand around and play red-hands or something afterwards but it seems that no real harm can come of it so I stopped worrying  Grin
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2? on: 2007 March 31, 09:05:06
Safe fireplaces exist, as this is a frequently-cited Annoyance. I have some, but it has been a while since I built a house, so I'll have to hunt them down in-game next time I play and cross my fingers that the creator labeled them so I can tell you where to get them.

Or, hmm, maybe SimCat will help. I think I bunged them into a Fireplaces folder at one point, but it may not have survived my last 'puter poop out.

Thank you that would be great! Grin
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there no cure for Petspam? on: 2007 March 30, 14:47:57
Oh God yes!! No pet spam ...

I have tried teaching them every trick there is, but then they have endless performance wants, not only that kids that move out continue to want to "do this that and every freaking thing" with pets that live with the parents! Argghh!
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for? on: 2007 March 30, 14:38:49
Monique over at MTS2 has done this mod. It is is her no autonomous hacks thread.I don't have the link right now. Just doa search for monique.

Squinge has also made a no autonmous waterballoon fight hack.

However, rather than seeing it squashed altogether, I'd rather the game do a check for appropriate season (Summer), location (outdoors) and perhaps even body temperature - a sim who needs cooling down should be more likely to participate in or initiate this activity than a sim who does not need to cool down.

Agreed! I also have guests swimming at night while there is 3 feet of snow on the ground Huh

I would like...a no fire hack...for the cooker and the fireplaces and anything else than can and does catch fire.

Edit- A fire hydrant for dogs to use (instead of the path and garden) I think the Sims1 had one of these?
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2? on: 2007 March 30, 14:29:45
Most of the accidental deaths I can avoid, but the ones I would really like the option to turn off or just plain eradicate are the fire deaths. I know this emanates from my very real fear of fire and I can't seem to get a grip when it happens in the game, to a Sim I have been nurturing for what seems like an age. I never think about pleading with the reaper because my own fear has skyrocketed and like the lady who posted the poll I always exit without saving.

I can't find my "no fire" hacks after Seasons, so once again I have removed all the fireplaces and cook with sprinklers and fire alarms. I personally think it sucks that the fire places are so dangerous in the game; I was brought up with a real fire and have many friends and relatives who still have them. None of them has ever burnt the house down or themselves by using them (although I am aware people do). I wish the odds were much lower I guess.

The other risk I would eliminate is the "watching clouds/stars", the rare occasion that I play my Sim self I would like to lay back and stare skywards like I do in real life and drift…without the risk of an outdated rusty satellite hurtling towards me. (In real life I am lucky to see tiny meteorites let alone space junk!  Grin

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Glitch Uni/Seasons ? on: 2007 March 10, 03:04:58
I've had that grade bar not recognising that the student has the required skill problem before - most often with sims who had maxed all skills before they got to college (go figure). You can use boolprop to put their skills down below the level needed, and then have them skill to regain the required level, and the bar will open up. Annoying, but it does work, unlike moving them out, which doesn't always fix the problem.

Thank you! At last I can fix my overworked student. Cheers Grin
25  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Community lots are supposed to reflect seasons, right? on: 2007 March 10, 02:51:47
I had this too but with just one house, I resorted to re-installing the NH I had saved before installing seasons and started again. Since posting I have thought back and although I moved the family out and back in while there was snow on the ground I have remembered I was running in debug  and I'm sure I got an error that I reset, but I would have assumed it was a Sim but maybe it was a weather glich?

All I have found is 3 object error logs to that NH and this one is the only one mentioning the weather (the other two are for the dogs and behaviour on the borked house). I have no clue if this helps as I can not make any sense out it. (The date is wrong-should be 06/03/07 )
