1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Memory leak? on: 2007 September 20, 14:29:29
Thanks for the info. Although reading all of that gave me a headache, I'll just have to guess that it is'nt safe to play for extended periods until this issue is adressed by EAxis.(Hopefully).

Even on a High Performance machine, with all updated BV hacks, all awesome and a few non-awesome, I have mini second lags constant on any community lot until I leave.(never had that issue before with all options and smooth on high. I have since then turned down the res and smooth edges off, it's still the same.I have no problem with anything else glitches or otherwise. I am assuming this is due to to this.
Apreciate the feedback by the way.

I've read in several different threads that Bon Voyage has a bad memory leak. What exactly is a memory leak and how does it affect one's computer in terms of performance and gameplay? Can something like this be fixed with a patch?

This may seem crazy but I had the same problem with a lot that never gave me problems before. I  had only 3 orchard trees and about 12 garden plants. I could'nt understand why my lot was dragging during the day and I could barely move across the lot at night when they were asleep.(fast mode) It was summer, no snow, no rain nothing out of the usual. I thought maybe I had a build up of invisible characters on the lot as I just tried for garden club membership which brought a host of members to inspect.(maybe they did'nt leave properly, I thought). I tried lowering my graphics options etc. and could'nt figure it out. It was'nt until the fall season was almost over and I had already harvested my garden plants I started to remove the LADYBUGS from the lot and put it into my inventory.(after all I did'nt need any more until I replanted in the spring again. Altogether I had 15 on the lot.3 for each orchard and the rest in the garden.I did'nt get pests at all during the spring and summer season)

It seriously stopped lagging after I removed 6 of them(from the garden)I guess with all the bugs flying busily around put more strain on the cpu. 15+ was overkill. I have a very high end computer and handle huge lots no problem with all options, so as you can imagine I was very worried why all of a sudden the huge lag on an ordinary lot.

You never said you had any ladybug houses so this may not even be it for you, but you did mention that the only thing that had changed was that you had added some orchard trees etc. Sometimes it's the stupid little things and not your comp. so I just thought I'd mention that I had this problem and it was solved by removing some. Can you run or install any other game into your computer? Have you had any odd things happening with your cd rom? The reason I ask this is because I had a problem w/my cd rom and did'nt know it. If I restarted the computer then my computer would see the disc in the drive and I would be able to start my game. I could play the game fine until I shut down but if I tried to start it up again it would'nt until I restarted the comp. It sounds similar to your problem but may not be related so I just thought I'd ask. Also when you first start up your comp for the day would give you the same results, the comp would see the disc because the memory is clear but when you shut down...same thing. I eventually installed a new cd rom.(same exact make and model) no probs now. I hope it's as simple as that. Smiley

I use SimCribbling by Louis default replacements. It is the same as my Dagmar above. I love it, it is so detailed and realistic. Smiley
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Something strange is afoot... on: 2006 May 11, 19:07:33
My young adult sim met this NPC bartender Knut Toyonoga  in college at a nightclub. Compared to all the fugly baristas, bartenders and D.J. 's in the game I was quite shocked. She promptly hooked up with him and moved in together after graduation.

I have always just played my own custom neighborhood since the beginning and have had NPC's like Dagmar the mailwoman, Kaylynn and Lucy the maids, Lauren Reeves the pizza chick, Demi the policewoman, Marylena the food delivery girl too.  I think that they are premade by Maxis sims that are randomly spawned throughout any neighborhood. If they could do that with the NPC's why can't they do that with the townies. Unique looking I can deal with..Unrealistically deformed looking is another story. Undecided
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Something strange is afoot... on: 2006 May 11, 01:56:15
It's not a hack. Dagmar is in my neighborhood too.  She was fooling around with everyone all over town before I moved her in and found out she is a romance sim. All original except makeup and different Maxis hairstyle. Custom replacement skintone by Louis. But I have'nt touched her facial features, it was'nt neccessary. Grin

Thanks for the heads up on that Sleepycat...I especially like the Your Pregnant Sims Can Wear Any Damn Thing They Well Please hack(OFB Pregnant Sims Wear Any Outfit)  Grin  Sim life is just getting better!

There is a Formal Community Wedding Arch by eddief66 over at MTS2. Someone tested it with OFB and said it worked.  This has not been confirmed by the creator though.  There are other new mods for enabled beds, dressers, bathtubs and showers etc. for community lots.(both for regular comm. and business owned comm. lots) I think alot of those mods are by Squinge. I am so happy about this, my hotels are saved. Cheesy. It's like a mod candy store over there at MTS2 right now. Wink
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Hack Request-Enabling objects on comm. lots on: 2006 March 04, 06:02:53
I'm not sure if this is the place for requests, please redirect me for future requests if not. Smiley

I have not heard anyone complain about this yet so I don't know if anyone else is interested, but it seems as though with each expansion more residential objects become disabled in comm. lots.eg.(refrigerators, beds etc.) It's making the residential to comm. lots collection become pointless.  I have several hotels, Inns etc.(great for Romance sims, honeymoons, family outings) that I cannot use since OFB because beds are disabled. Refrigerators, stoves and microwaves became disabled w/NL, my little student unions in UNI no longer function the way I intended.(Students were able to prepare some foods or have snacks w/their late night cramming.)No more...
No longer can sims marry in town Sad  Wedding arches no more...

Can these objects be made enabled again in comm. lots now that the collections are obsolete? Or is this an impossible request? Can there be a new set of residential to comm. enabled collection be made?  Either way thanks in advance for feedback.

9 gigs??  Shocked How long does your game take to load??

Under 9 minutes. It used to take about 15 to 20 min. with my old computer 2600xp, 2 gigs ram and Asus motherboard. Now I have a 3500 AMD Athlon64 2 Gigs of Dual Channel Ram and an Abit uGuru motherboard, my game runs beautifully w/all options on high. It took alot of upgrading to get it where I wanted it finally. Hi I just had to respond to this because I had the same exact problem.  I hope this helps. I turned boolProp testingCheatsEnabled on  before entering the lot and discovered there was an error with the Maxis Colonial bed. I do download alot which is why I did'nt think it would be a Maxis Object also none of the other comm. lots I went to had this problem.  I eliminated the idea of it being a hack because it only affected one lot.  I eliminated the problem by deleting the bed from the lot and the problem went away.  Now the dilemma lies in which downloaded bed affected the Maxis Colonial.  I have almost 9 gigs of downloads, aside from this problem i've had no other issues of this nature.

This is my thread on the same problem, see if it sounds familiar:

13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Newly made community lot leaves sims standing lost on: 2006 January 15, 16:24:54
Thank you for all your suggestions. Smiley  I have found the culprit...so to speak.  Well I know it's the Maxis colonial bed that's corrupted, with debug on it gave me an error, once I took it out the lot was normal. Now I have to figure out which downloaded bed caused this to happen. My other lots that have this bed (original placement since beginning of game) do not have this problem, so it has to be something downloaded more recently. Strange....but at least I did'nt have to bulldoze my new lot. Undecided

Thank you for your feedback I will try that now. I don't really know if I would understand the log but I'll post what I see.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Newly made community lot leaves sims standing lost on: 2006 January 14, 22:41:23
Just wondering if this has happened in anyones game before.  I just created a new community lot and took my sims to it to test it out. My sims arrive and are able to interact with objects, go out to dinner, swim in the pool, hottuob etc.   Other sims who enter the lot just stand around and do nothing. They can be interacted with, talk, joke etc. but once my sim walks away they just stand there. They eventually leave the lot because of low motives I presume, but this is not normal behavior. All my other community lots are fine I took my sims to all of them that night to see if any others were affected this way.  There is nothing on this community lot unusual that my other community lots don't have.   I also noticed that the lot seemed to run slower than usual. This was only a 2 story w/swimming pool, hottub, coffee bar and restaurant. The lot next door was a 4 story hotel which had everything this one did and ran beautifully.  Is it possible that a lot can get messed up while building before it's even used?  And would'nt hacks affect all lots?
If anyone has any info on this sort of thing I thank you in advance. Smiley
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please suggest a good Sims 2 Video Card on: 2005 October 01, 14:33:24
That's what I said in my original post, that it could be the CPU. Thanks for pointing that information out. I have to wait for Monday for my new CPU, install it and see. Wink

I have no idea what Bravehearts Pentium 4 is equivelant to but I Hook's  info helps. Also upgrading the video ram to 256 or higher does'nt hurt either. I will let you know if the rebooting stops as well as overall gameplay.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please suggest a good Sims 2 Video Card on: 2005 October 01, 08:34:15

My tech checked everything out with my card and discovered my fan wasn't working properly so I had him fix that. Brought the comp home today and still have choppy graphics. I am even running it with the case open thinking it might be airflow problems, but that is not it. Wondering if what Kryptmoon said has some merit to it. Before Nightlife, I have never had a problem with my graphics card (Geforce FX5200 128mb) Since Nightlife, I get spontaneous reboots, neighborhood view "earthquakes" (the graphics shake back and foth really fast), the edge and arrow key scrolling is choppy. I really cannot afford a new card but I also am NOT able to play the game as it is! What has chaged with Nightlife? My specs are more than adequate(2.2 ghz P4, 1024mb RAM, 80gb hardrive only 50% full and of course the video card mentioned above. Someone? A Maxoid? Please help...I can't even play the game anymore and I am obviously not the only one with these kind of problems.

I ran a diagnostic stress test on my pc.Tested all the hardware. No probs according to the results.(It took 11 hours Shocked) Like I said I had no probs playing the game before so I'm waiting for my upgraded CPU to come in.(Process of elimination)to see if that changes anything.
There are plenty of other threads about this situation that I have found on other sites. Could'nt be everybody's computer suddenly gone fu.. up. Undecided

I'll keep reading..somebody's bound to have an answer.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Please suggest a good Sims 2 Video Card on: 2005 September 30, 21:26:28
I hope some of this information can help so that someone can get down to the bottom of this.

I have a Radeon 9600XT 256mb
AMD Athlon 2600XP CPU
2 Gigs DDR Ram
80 Gig HD w/40 free space
Win XP Pro Svc.Pack 2
300 Watt Power Supply
Most Updated Drivers for ATI Catalyst

Before Nightlife everything ran on high and absolutely no probs. except that I was going to update CPU anyway for smoothness in gameplay.
After the installation of NL, my settings changed (which I read that this was supposed to happen because Maxis enhanced the Video Graphics etc. etc.)
So I changed all my settings back to normal (high) and did not have a problem with gameplay except that I noticed my custom skins were not defined and a little cartoonish. So I raised the resolution in game after that every thing was crystal clear and beautiful....until...my pc crashed and rebooted in the neighborhood screen. My first thought was, I thought there was a spike in my house...until it happened again. My second thought was okay Maxis changed the graphic specs requirement so I lowered the setting to medium trying to accomodate..it crashed again and this time it also crashed on a Lot with the neighborhood view on.The neighborhood also looked funky(flashing houses and Terrain turning white.
Immediately I thought it was my drivers. (I had just updated my video drivers. I've always used Omega beta drivers for performance)I figured it could have been a glitch w/the beta drivers so I uninstalled and replaced w/ATI Radeon Catalyst most recent.
Well, it stopped crashing in the neighborhood screen so I thought that was it. But just the other day it rebooted in one of the lots when I was trying to show my daughter the new neighborhood view.
I am NOT an expert but I see alot of people going out and updating their video cards(which is all good) but I wonder if the problem lies in the CPU. It seems that Nightlife is making the CPU work harder and it only happens when I have the neighborhood view on. Also since I changed the drivers to it's original maker it stopped rebooting in Neeighborhood screen. Which tells me The drivers that I had before(were set for high performance) was too much for my CPU.
I have ordered a new power supply 550wt and new CPU 3200XP which I did not install yet. So for now I play w/mostly med. settings and no neighborhood view(which really sucks...the whole point of NL, to me anyway.)

Someone on this thread said that the games auto detections for your comp. specs is not being read right. This makes alot of sense since I never had a prob. before NL, my system is not shit and supposedly it meets and surpasses requirements. Hmmmm Don't think it's supposed to be rebooting w/neighborhood view on, which is a huge feature in this expansion.

Hope a Maxoid is reading this thread and can give conclusive answers to this prob that many of us are having. Undecided    Cry

21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what is an overpopulated neighborhood anyway? on: 2005 August 18, 15:15:24
There's alot of information on this thread that's helpful as I've been trying to read up on all threads associated with this problem(neighboorhood overpopulation and safe character deletion), however I have one question that i have'nt seen anyone bring up. I have a neighborhood with 515 character files. As I was looking through the character folder I saw that some of my character files had .bak  Undecided  Why are there .baks in my character folder and is it safe to delete them?  (Okay that was 2 questions)

If anyone can answer this thank you in advance. Grin
