1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Sims Medieval on: 2011 April 01, 22:14:48

Is it necessary to use the launcher to patch Medieval or will that activate Evil SecuRom?

Thank you!

I should have guessed it was another bit of "developers without a clue" decisions that make no sense.

You'd think there'd be an ape on staff with enough common sense to put in a toggle on or off for gravestone generation, or a way to tag families as "important"
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Please,What happens to your non-played gravestones? Because EA Q&A is uselss... on: 2009 June 24, 00:41:50
I have seen posts where players say "go to the mausoleum and gravestones will be there under manage gravestones."

Unless I am playing a family and they die, I do not get gravestones to move to the graveyard.

Do YOUR non-playables gravestones end up in the Mausoleum under "manage gravestones"?

I have witnessed a family that I had played (MARTINEZ) but switched out of die in the public park while I was playing another family (GLOVER), I then saw the grim reaper come for the unfortunate Old Martinez Matriarch, I SAW the gravestone generated, and then saw gravestone promptly vanish.     I immediately switched to the MARTINEZ family.   It didn't go into any inventory of the family who was mourning (I switched to see), it did not end up on the home lot, and was NOT in the mausoleum under "manage gravestones".

So..EA says this is not a bug, but also didn't explain what the point of the "manage gravestones" is or f gravestones of nonplayables are supposed to dissapear. In fact, they said practically nothing at all.

Well, I defraged and made the computer happy, but now the game won't start at all!   It appears in task manager for a couple of seconds then dissapears.

This is quite common and is caused by a corrupted game cache.

Delete Groups.cache in C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2

It will be recreated when you restart the game.

You are a goddess.
I had deleted the cache file yesterday after a suggestion, but wouldnt have thought to do it again!   I'll remember now what to do when if that situation happens again!

Well, I defraged and made the computer happy, but now the game won't start at all!   It appears in task manager for a couple of seconds then dissapears.      ARRRGH!     I'll re-install the last expansion first to see if that fixes the problem, and then if that doesn't work the whole shebang and see if that works.   (Securom is not on my system thanks to MATY and nocd cracks)  And if that doesn't work I'll just live without it for now, the budget is too tight to have a real computer geek futz with it.

I have ALWAYS run sims on a laptop and NEVER had a problem other than an occasional problem with the game itself that a reinstall fixed.      I know Dell sucks but I can't do anything about it now as I can't afford a new system at the moment.  And I still wouldn't buy a desktop because I need the mobility.

The memory I put in goes/went with this system and is the highest upgrade I could make, I made sure of that--they are a pair that go together.   But I can't get dell to tell me details about the new or old motherboard or compatability because they are incompetent fools.   Of course if I pay a fee they'd transfer me to a higher level tech with more experience.  GRR.     I guess that information have to wait for a geek.    As far as I can tell all the memory is being used now that the other one is in there properly.    Performace has improved immensely.

Jolrei, I might reinstall windows at some point and start from scratch, but I need my computer for work right now.   But more and more it sounds like I need a completely clean slate!

Thanks for all the help, it is appreciated!

Those are all old threads.  Not new.

Snowball:   I appreciate your help.   The memory that is in it now wasn't shipped, it was upgraded by me.   Though with three laptops in this house (none of them spring chickens or the same type) apparantly I'd forgotten I had added another gig to this one sometime a year after I bought it.     One of the cards was kind of snug and so wasn't seated in there properly.  I was so irritated yesterday I opened the door to inspect the cards to see if my husband could tell me if they could be upgraded without putting me in debt, and when I put them back in the computer informed me I had added more RAM.  Huh??    So I've been playing with 1 gig since then (2007?)  even though I was supposed to have two (smacks forehead).      Oh well, the game played fine with 1 Gig with the old video card anyway Smiley

I will definitley defrag tonight.   My other system ran so well, it just got overlooked (I am usually pretty good at cleaning house)!      I ran an analysis and it really needs it.    Hopefully it will fix the ridiculous load times.

I've never had a motherboard replaced before.  You are right its a whole new system.
7  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Something is Still Borked... on: 2009 April 20, 14:34:54

Define "an eternity".

When did you notice the load time slowing down - was it potentially associated with something else you did with your game or your computer recently (i.e. change in antivirus, etc.)?

Is your system in need of a cleanup, defragmenting?

Do you have malware that may be slowing the system down generally?

ETA:    Eternity = 20-30 minutes

Sorry, I should have reiterated what went on yesterday!

I just had my motherboard and video card in my laptop replaced because they both went (2005 Inspirion E1705, xp, 2G ram-- though apparantly 1 gig wasn't seated right and I've been using the computer all this time without it).    I went from a GEforce 7600 video card to a Radeon x1400 when they made the replacements (I was under warranty for the repairs).

None of the problems I have been having occured until after the computer was repaired.  The motherboard and video card issue was very sudden...One day it worked and the next it didn't.   When I got te computer back,  I was missing drivers for the new components, and the wrong video card driver was installed after the repair...so I just had those fixed yesterday (my system still won't aknowledged its own battery though).  I periodically check my system for malware, and clean up temp files, and I had done a registry clean not that long ago, and I have removed viruses before and so things were good before the motherboard went poof.

I have not yet done a defrag (the last one I think I did the Fall of 2008).   Thanks for that suggestions, I hadn't thought about it being so annoyed with these other issues.

I apologize for starting a new thread.  I can't find the other one.

I fix one problem and another pops up.     I've managed to get my drivers updated, fixed the unseated memory card, and things still aren't quite right.
Once I get to the family house everything is fine, BUT it takes an eternity to load up even when I take out every single hack and CC!   That doesn't seem to make sense.   I did delete the cache files as suggested (thanks to whomever suggested that.)

Yesterday, I just thought the slowdown was just a problem with having a memory grubbing program open at the same time but I've tried turing everything off and same thing (and I never had this problem before unless my CC folder was busting).

Merci!
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Moving Framed Snapshots on Wall -- Won't work? on: 2008 October 28, 02:53:48
Maybe I broke something...
But I can move paintings on a wall up and down.  I know that some of my custom content isn't wall movable and that's fine.

But when I order a snapshot on the computer that comes in a frame I CAN'T move it on the wall.  ?!
Furthermore, the I can't place it on a wall if there is an object like a desk in the way...if I move the desk I can then place it on the wall.
I've tried it without hacks and it still won't work.

So, is it just my game or is it just an object that EA forgot to update?
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about Hair Recolors and Photoshop on: 2008 April 16, 23:58:16
Oh, schnizel.  That was what I was afraid of.   I guess my project will have to wait until I'm sufficiently insane to recolor all those hair files.
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Question about Hair Recolors and Photoshop on: 2008 April 16, 22:24:06
It's been a long time since I've done anything with photoshop but I can fumble my way through it Smiley

If I was recoloring hair and I found a number combination on the RGB scale that worked nicely for the colors I wanted, would I be able to apply those same numbers to all the other hair types and get the same color?

I ask because I am hoping there is an easier way for me to change the horrendous colors of my early (and far too many) xmsims hairs with the koolaid-washed out colors with the least amount of brain leakage.   I can live with the textures, but I want some consistensy in color.

Just a heads up that I tried downloading Face template 02 but its not coming up for download, just an error page saying it is not available.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maybe the trees need therapy? on: 2007 March 10, 19:29:09
I found that every time you tend the trees their health increases and you can get them up by autumn to be able to harvest mouthwatering fruit before they go dormant for the winter.   However, if you want to harvest every 5 days which is their approximate flower/fruit cycle then talking is a rapid way to recharge them for multiple harvests.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Possible to make sims use the high chair more/exclusively? on: 2007 March 04, 13:02:36
A solution is a solution!  I'll keep my eye out for something more global, but as long as I can stop the bottles, I'll go the fridge route.   Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Possible to make sims use the high chair more/exclusively? on: 2007 March 04, 11:12:06
This is one thing that has plagued me.  I can't stand the bottles in the game, but if I put a high chair in the sims2 rarely put them in it to feed and instead opt for the bottle.    If it were up to me, I'd dispense with the smart milk bottles too and go with a smart sippy cup or smart nursing.

I have Squinge's nursing mod and I love it, but it isn't set for toddlers unfortunately.  If I can't let the toddlers be nursed,  is there a mod out there that strongly encourages (read: force)  the sims to use and prefer the high chair when one is present?

I've searched but haven't come across anything so far, though I could be just using the wrong search terms.

Dang.  Did I post in the wrong place?  My apologies!  So Sorry.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Pet Peeves: No water bowl, no brushing, no paper shredding? etc. on: 2006 November 03, 04:29:20
I really think the design team was asleep on this one.

The woohoo in a ginormous pethouse is bad enough.  If it was really necessary to censor to that extreme, it would have been far more tolerable had it been more clever, like jumping in a bush.

And why can't you brush the dog or cat?  Why only tub bathing.  Just doesn't make sense.   *sigh*  I could have sworn, too, that a pet bathing/grooming station had been advertised in previews or have I just lost my mind?

And where are the water dishes?  Or dogs drinking out of the toilet bowl...a toddler can splash in it, a cat can potty in it, but a dog can't drink out of it (unless I just haven't seen it)?  That's one of a dog's major jobs!   They can't bring in the paper either (or shred it to teen tiny soggy pieces).

Only fetch with a stick pulled out of sim butts.  No balls?  What -- not enough room in their collective behinds for one more object?

The hole digging is amusing.  But why does it take HOURS upon sim hours to fill the blasted thing?  It's not that big of a hole!

I haven't yet seen a cat try to climb a tree (or even the curtains).

No mice for cats or rat terriers to pounce when things are sufficiently dirty?

Anyone seen two pets cuddle in sleep together yet?
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sweet Mother Gaia: RAM is Good... on: 2006 June 09, 16:37:02
I have a Dell Inspiron 9600, 17 inch monitor (a little too ginormous for my taste but I'm getting used to it)
Intel CPU T2500 @ 2.00 GHz
1.00 GB RAM
GE Force Go 7800 Video

Dell was having a huge sale (22% off) and I got it for  a song at $1600 including a 3 year service plan.   I generally don't like to pay a lot for a laptop because they can be so hard to upgrade so I'm a cheapskate.   Just like I would never buy a brand new car unless my last name was Filthyrich Smiley   It's not exactly what I wanted but that's alright.   I was seriously thinking about pulling out all the stops but the price tag that came with the best of the best made my credit card whimper.  I wanted one of the newer XPS but they didn't have any left on sale and I've had good luck with my old Inspiron considering I put it through its paces.  My only complaint?   They seemed to have cut the power cord length by 1/3 which is really irritating.
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Sweet Mother Gaia: RAM is Good... on: 2006 June 09, 16:03:00
I just bought a new PC.  Not the top of the line (my pockets aren't that deep), but with 1G RAM and much better video card.

Listen.  Hear that?   No?  Exactly!   I had no idea it was possible to play Sims2 without the constant whir of a hard drive being written to constantly on a machine that didn't really want to load the Sims.  Who knew that that little green light actually could turn off.     I am now able to hear planes flying overhead again.  That's not all.  Now I know what everyone is talking about when they mention "Cinematics".   I was a little frightened the first time Daniel Pleasant diddled the maid and the woohoo movie played.

I had no idea sims could move that fast; little spazzed ants after you turn over their cushy rock.   Three time speed is, for the first time, effective!   I am actually having to re-learn how to play without having to constantly hit the pause button to get my bearings.  More than two sims in a downtown lot at a time...incon-th-eivable!

Little buttons, and tree leaves, and carpet fuzz, steady camera panning, and smooth motion...Oh My!

Guess this means I won't be able to paint the living room while the game loads, or cook dinner while I'm waiting for buy mode to appear.  My computer -- more awesome than me.

It's a whole new world for this avid, lurking, MATY-hack user.   Cheesy
