TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons: What mods are you already begging for?

One mod I would like to see is a no penguin sign. I'm tired of mopping penguin pee and my daughters say that the penguin can steal fish straight out of your inventory. Even when I shoo them they're back in an hour or so
I would like the opposite - a hack that permits you to call a penguin at any time. (Actuallly, I'd want a mod that lets you make a pet out of the penguin, but that is probably complicated.)

Law and Education for the first two, obviously.
As others have mentioned, Gaming does require education, at least insofar as you need to know how to program. A lot of programmers are self-taught, but many do have degrees in computer science - I'm not sure how many who go into gaming have degrees though. There are many schools for journalism, but going into journalism doesn't require having an education in that field. Music depends on the type of music - garage bands and singers don't generally require education, but classical musicians do. Adventurers don't need any formal education whatsoever.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: IE 7.0 sucks

Don't get me wrong - IE is definitely flawed, but from a purely superficial design-oriented standpoint, pages still look best on IE (functioning properly is another story).
Obviously. If you design your page for IE's flaws it will only look right in IE. If, on the other hand, you write valid HTML and CSS, your page will look best in Opera, Furryfox, Safari, KDE, or any other browser which actually supports web standards. 99.9% of all pages does not validate. Amen. Any semi-serious web designer who tries to create HTML/XHTML and CSS compliant sites knows that IE is the absolute *worst* when it comes to handling compliancy. There are so many "workarounds" we have to use in order to get sites to work properly in IE just because IE was so crap; hopefully with IE7, we won't need to use them anymore, but since people will be using IE6 for ages to come, we'll still need to include them anyway :/

Sometimes toddlers will autonomously play with eachother, but you can't make them do it. It would be nice, I suppose, if there were a hack that would allow you to have them do it.
*didn't know about that* I'll have to take away all their toys and leave them alone together, see if it happens. You could try requesting Squinge to make a hack for it at Insimenator, as he takes requests.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Running OFB without the CD

For some reason, nothing will work for me.
I've tried both CureROM and SD4Hide (separately), both with Alcohol and Daemon tools. I've also tried GameJackal. Every time, The Sims 2 OFB says that I need to make sure that the CD is in the drive, then the program shuts down. The only thing that *does* work is to 1) use my actual version of The Sims 2: OFB in the CD drive (which, for reasons mentioned in this thread, I don't want to do) or 2) find a cracked exe file, which I've heard is the reason my college grades are messed up (the bar doesn't change).
*has no idea why it works for everyone else, but not on this computer* :x

Objects/new meshes that are just decorative usually work fine, so I would guess the closet system, closet units, and photography backdrop would be okay.
The rest on your list are hacks. Twojeffs has said Movie Maker needs to be updated, I believe, and Crammyboy hasn't released a list of working hacks yet. Dunno about Carrigon, would go to her site to see if she has a list.

This is somewhat related to the topic but not in reference to hacks: I noticed that my custom content (objects only) cannot be placed on the new shelves designed for stores. They can only sit on the floor or on regular counters or other surfaces pre-OfB. Which sucks because I have a ton of custom objects that would look nice in a store but I have to use regular counters. Maybe some genius out there can figure out how to convert our pre-OfB objects so they'll sit on the darn shelves? Is that all custom objects or only certain ones? It might be based on what the custom object was cloned off of...

Do you have any moveout fixes apart from JM's one? I never have any problems with moving my sims to college, or out of houses for that matter, but I did have a problem moving sims out of a house when I had other moveout and graduation fixes installed.
Not sure if that was geared at me, but I don't believe so. I have JM's fix, but that's it. Anyway, I can move out Sims fine by telephone/computer, I just can't send them off to college that way.

Happened before in one of my dorms. I stuck a professor in a room with no doors, but the room had a toilet, fridge, and bed. A ghost scared the professor three times in a row, and he died. The Grim Reaper came, called on his phone, left the professor's urn, then went to use the toilet :x He left after he finished.

The thing with the teens not being old enough doesn't count if you're sending them to college through the neighborhood view, anyway. It only makes a difference if you're trying to send them through phone/computer and you haven't disabled that option. How do you disable/enable that option? I've tried sending my teens to college by phone/computer, and it always says I have to choose a University first, when I already have a working university attached. I end up having to send them to university through the neighborhood chooser, which is very inconvenient.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default Replacement Skins
|

I'm not sure if it's that I have GunMod's lighting mod or what, but Enayla's normal skins look awful in my game. I tried "alabaster" for pale, and everyone looks dead. Their faces are too shiny, and it's creepy. "Pale blush" was better in that they didn't look dead, but still a little off. Dusk, by contrast, is much too dark for the darkest skin. However, Enayla's alien and zombie skins look excellent in-game, so I'm using those. For my normal defaults, I went with Simcribbling, which all look great in-game.

Maybe they take the sim away for a couple of hours? Or brings up a dialogue: Would you like to go to the Secret Society lot? Because I like the abductions, but they can get really annoying.
I agree. If this is possible, that'd be great. Sometimes I want my Sims to be taken to the secret society, and other times I really just want to stay on my current lot.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / No longer in love but still have sorta-romantic wants?
|
on: 2006 January 17, 01:59:47
|
I notice that Sims still roll semi-romantic wants for Sims they're no longer in love with - wants such as giving backrubs to ex-lovers, or just desiring to constantly talk to ex-lovers (more so than with their best friends or family members). This is the case even for Sims who aren't Romance Sims - I've had it happen mostly to Knowledge Sims (both Sims who were created as Knowledge Sims and have always remained such, and for Sims who were originally Romance Sims but were then changed to Knowlege Sims).
This semi-obsessive behavior happens normally when Sims fall in love in game, then fall out of love in game. The Sims still want to talk and appreciate their ex-lovers, even when furious, and even ages later when they've fallen in love with other Sims. I've seen this phenomenon mentioned on this board before, but I don't recall the reasoning behind it.
Furthermore, it also happens when: a) the Sims fall in love in game, b) in SimPE, I then remove the crush/love flags, and c) then I also remove all memories they had (and invisible memories other Sims had) of falling in love, kissing, woohooing, cheating, etc.
Is there some way in SimPe to make Sims fall completely out of love, to remove this obsessive effect? I hate the "backrub/talk to" wants clogging up my want slots. Usually, they only spin some of their more recent ex-loves, and not much older ones, suggesting recency has some effect. And given that I've removed crush/love flags and the memories in SimPE, it seems some aspect of "Sim love memory" is also stored elsewhere.

In the case of lightning bolts for the wrong Sims, there's not much I can do if they're friends and they hang out together. All I can do is make sure they're happily in love with other Sims- or better yet, engaged/married to other Sims. If they have two or three lightning bolts for random dormies/townies and they're already attached otherwise, then I either try to change the dormie/townie using the Mind Control Mirror and a mirror/Merola64's painting so that he/she is no longer attractive to my Sims, or I just kill them and have them make nice ghosts for various lots.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Fubared Game - problems with various neighborhoods
|
on: 2005 December 28, 08:41:15
|
I was playing the game perfectly fine yesterday and last week. Suddenly, today, everything screws up. Here are screen shots to demonstrate: Basically, the neighborhood, university, and downtown in Pleasantview and Strangetown will load. However, after the loading screen, the university and the downtown in Pleasantview and the downtown in Strangetown will screw up, as seen in the above pictures. (I haven't played Veronaville so didn't test it.) For some reason, animation and movement seem to stop. The camera won't move around the screen (technically it does, but the screen will remain fixated on the original spot and won't show the changes), and animation on the screen will stop (cars will stop moving, for example). Hovering over anything such as lots will leave a trail of pop-ups that never fade; the various boxes from changing views/modes won't fade; and mousing things across the screen results in image streaking that won't fade either (as seen in the second picture). There's no way to get the camera moving again and the pop-ups/image streaking to fade other than through pure luck. At one point in Pleasantview's university, changing to Decorations mode fixed this problem, but I couldn't duplicate this effect again. Last week, I was playing Strangetown's downtown fine with no hitch whatsoever, and now I get this problem. Strangetown's La Fiesta Tech has the problem, sort of, but the camera will eventually move around and stop the image streaking. I never noticed this problem until tonight either, and I've been playing it almost exclusively for a few weeks. I was actually playing this university two days ago perfectly fine. I haven't tried entering lots to see if there's problems with them, too, but I was playing Pleasantview's neighborhood just last night without any problems. I removed the Downloads folder to see if it was any hack/mod causing it, but I got the same problem. Anyway, the only recent hacks that I downloaded over the past few days were syberspunk's apologize hack (today) and Pescado's romance mod in testing (which worked fine before, no problems). Last night, one of my lots froze on loading, but I restarted and deleted the pool lights (causing the problem) in debug mode. After that, I played the lot fine and saved. I haven't touched it since today, which is when I noticed the weirdness. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Do I have to completely reinstall my game and get rid of my current saves, or is there another way to figure out WTF is suddenly going wrong?

Er... what happens if someone actually tries to make a payment through Paypal?
Are they unable to send the money (doubtful, since you can send money to any e-mail address, whether they have a Paypal account or not)? Do you return it?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Two Questions
|
on: 2005 November 30, 00:58:40
|
Question 1: Is there any way to un-zombiefy a Sim? I learned that after you Zombie a Sim, then kill him, then resurrect him, even if you pay the full amount, you still get stuck with a Zombie. I don't particularly like the Zombies (they freak me out, and I need to ply their faces with full-face make-up to make them less ugly), but my knowledge Sims all want to be them, and there's no way I'm making them Zombies if they'll be Zombies for forever. Anyway in game or with SimPE to change Zombies to be normal Sims?
Question 2: I changed some things in my lots Downtown. Since the default Downtown is the same in every Neighborhood, I don't want to go through the hassle of having to load up the same lots in another Neighborhood's Downtown, just to make the same exact changes. I wanted to copy the files from Neighborhood 1 into Neighborhood 2. I think this would work (would welcome any suggestions as to why it wouldn't so I can give up if it'll screw up my game), but because the file names (lot numbers) are different between my neighborhoods, I'm not sure which lots are the same. How can I determine which file names correspond to which lots? Again, either in game or in SimPE?

I tried locking him up and setting his motives to zero, but all he did was walk around the room, complaining about a toilet or belly laughing. I tried setting a fire nearby, but he didn't catch, and then he disappeared, so I'm not sure if he's fire proof or not.
